“definately bottom end of two star”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

We booked this last minute and in a rush, when we arrived our room was not ready but hotel staff greeted us and took us for coffee and cakes while they had room cleaned, we were very disappointed with the room, below ground level and bed was very uncomfortable, we asked to be moved and were, the next room were were given smelt awfull and had not been cleaned, another visit to reception where we were given the keys to another room in another hotel El Dorado this time the room was ready and clean but had no lift, we accepted as we had already wasted 3 hours, there are no Kettles in room and where this is located it gets noisey from sunset till almost sunrise, the rooms were cleaned everyday to a basic standard but in reality it is only two star, the restaurant caters for Germans and most of the signs are in spanish and German, the breakfast was basic, lots of different bacons, fried eggs, cheese, ham, bread and brioche all buffet style, i was relived that we had only booked bed and breakfast as i could imagine the food throughout the day would not be very interesting,
The sunbeds are tired and worn and uncomfortable and we were surprised that they were not reserved with towels at the crack of dawn, 5 mins laying on one and you realise why they were mostly free, usually we spend a lot of time by the pool when on holiday but this time we went to the beach every day, the hotels location is very close to shops restaurants nightlife and beach, the best thing about Playamar is its location and its staff who are friendly helpfull even though very few could speak any english, the rooms have no air con or fans so do get very hot,
Even though Playamar was below standards we still had a great time, its location is great for couples or families with young children, there are lots of reastaurants that are very good value, especially Platja Brava less than €5 for a meal and pudding and only a min or two from Playamar, there are lots of things to entertain younger kids and the whole area has a very safe feel about it, we will definately return here but we will not stay at Playamar when we do,

Was a bit worried after reading other posts but we were pleasantly surprised.
Our apartment was spacious and cleaners came in every day to make beds and give a clean through.
Apartment was basic but suited our needs.
Will definitely go again

The Playamar Hotel and Apartments at S'illot Majorca is an unpretentious 2* establishment providing low cost holiday accommodation aimed at mainly at families.

S'illot owes its entire existence to tourism and is one of a string of holiday destinations along the east coast of the Island. The town has evolved since the 1960s rather than having been established in one go as some have and this gives it a slight amount of charm. The beach is good and the Playamar is close to it.

The Playamar is fairly well looked after but is far from new. The small ground floor room in the hotel part that we stayed in had a small bathroom and a small balcony overlooking a side street. There is a central courtyard formed by the hotel and its apartment blocks, with two swimming pools, one for children and one adult pool both adequate but not especially large. In the lower section of the courtyard where the children's pool is sited there is a bar which serves drinks in plastic beakers more or less all the time. A bar in the hotel is open for a couple of hours in the evening. The pool bar smells of bad drains. Meals are basic. There is plenty of fresh salad which does not alter at all from day to day and various cooked bits of animal that were of no interest to me as a vegan but were, I was told, not always very well cooked i.e. tough and/or over cooked but at other times ok. For a vegan the only protein available at any time was the baked beans at breakfast. Vegetarians would get some grated cheese to go with spaghetti from time to time. However the plentiful and fresh salad and bread kept me well and healthily fed and I bought some nuts at a supermarket for protein. I would have fared no better in the numerous restaurants in the town which would also barely cater for a vegetarian let alone a vegan. Indeed I would suggest that vegans and vegetarians should give catering on Majorca a miss altogether. The service providers of the island either have no concept of it, and the commercial opportunities it might provide them with, or have united in a doomed conspiracy to try to snuff it out.

The Playamar cannot really be criticised unless judged against the standards of a higher grade of establishment. It is fairly well kept. The rooms are cleaned daily and fresh sheets and towels provided. A slightly odd feature is the absence of ventilation in bathrooms. Overall it runs efficiently. If anyone wants a higher standard they should go for a 3 or 4 star hotel instead. The Playamar is well geared up to families and the music sometimes goes on until rather late in the evening so it is perhaps a little less suited to more mature guests. I have no doubt that some of the rooms are at times insufferable from a "Muzak" point of view.

Could they improve this hotel without spending a lot of money on the place and pushing up the cost of a holiday here? Yes perhaps here and there they could, but on the whole it does not fall as annoyingly short of the mark as other reviews suggest.

Room Tip: Rooms in the hotel overlooking the side street to the north west are probably the quietest.

Got booked into this hotel by mistake by our holiday agent and I've never been more upset to end up somewhere. The hotel staff are lovely but that's the only thing going for it. The pool area is dirty, the room wasn't ready when we arrived, the whole building is dated and the bedrooms are tiny. Holes in the bedsheets, no hairdryer, lights tempermental, NO air con!! And the bath is cracked in many places. I honestly wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone. I'm all for cheapy summer sun get-always but there are much better 2/3* hotels out there. Luckily, we managed to get moved from this hotel by paying the difference to another until our complaint has been resolved but I would hate to think someone couldn't afford to do this and had their holiday ruined.

We had read the reviews before we came to the hotel but we planned on keeping an open mind. If we weren't an active couple who liked to see everything and go places rather than mostly being in the hotel all the time this would of been a nightmare holiday. We were all inclusive but we ate out for every meal. The food was disgusting and the meat was unidentifiable. I will usually eat or at least try anything but not here, the dishes were aimed at the European market. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and the only thing that she could of ate was salad or chips, one day we went to check what was being served and asked if there was a vegetarian option - the cook pointed us to roast vegetables, which also contained some strange meat! Every member of staff we came across, apart from the guys working at the bar, were unpleasant and rude. Getting any help from them was like asking them to run a marathon. We ended up staying in three different rooms in 7 days?! Our first room was ok - that is unless you wanted a shower. The shower didn't work, neither did the bath. I notified reception twice about the faulty shower/bath and they promised that they would send the 'technician' to fix it (Most places would send a plumber). After no technician for two days, the third time I went to reception was to demand to be moved. They obliged after a lot of huffing and puffing. After the first night in our second room we woke up covered in bites, we took precautions buying the best sprays and creams available but still got bitten to death. This continued for a couple of nights, even though we had the plug in deterrent and I was sure it was bed bugs. It was confirmed by quite a few other guests at the hotel and I was met with a lot of hostility from the receptionist and they just stated it was mosquito's, I demanded that we be moved for the second time and she said there was no more rooms and after quite a heated argument she moved us for the second time. The third room was fine. In all three rooms the bed sheets never got changed for our full stay. I read when we were checking out that they change them once a week - in Spain?! The only good thing about the hotel is the two pools and the bar. Great selection at the bar with pleasant staff who were happy to help. The pools were well sized and clean.
