Nice hotel right next to the ski lift - with lockers at the ski lift entrance which is very easy. would be nice to have had more help i nthe morning with the kids to put ski boots etc on. Some times there was help - and sometimes none - seems like your typical spanish organisation. The room was very good - and spacious. The food in the hotel was good - main issue being that hardly anyone spoke english. The opening times of the restaurants also change on a daily baiss - and no one seems to know what opens when. The breakfast buffet is really good. The kids club was great - and here the staff did speak english.

i would certainly come to the hotel again - as the rooms are great - location is great - food is good - rooms are good - the main downside being the lack of english speaking staff and some organisational aspects - but all the staff were always friendly.

We stayed for 2 nights for a short skiing break in Jan 14. The hotel was excellent with stylish, well equipped rooms and spaces and great facilities all in a very good location, but it was the service that made it for us.

We arrived in a big snow storm and had to abandon our hire car after a mile or so from the hotel when the snow chains broke. We called the hotel and the concierge came straight out in the hotel Audi Q7 4x4 - he told me to drive up to the hotel in the Audi and he somehow managed to get out car up to the hotel eventually. All in super quick time and with a smile and humour. Brilliant.

This was exceptional service, but we found everyone to be fantastic throughout our stay.

Breakfast was very good indeed and we ate in the fondue restaurant both nights as our son loved it so much.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Loved everything, especially the wooden interior and a lounge bar with a fireplace.
The only negative thing is that the spa is not free of charge (35-40 EUR per 90 min) and you have to book it beforehand.

We decided to return for the third time to enjoy a few days skiing at Baqueira after the season was extended in the week running up to Easter. This time we chose the Val de Neu to stay in, after a disastrous stay last time at AC Marriott next door.

Val De neu is very nice. Room quality was much better than AC, and the breakfast was excellent. Service is still hit and miss, which seems to be a common problem in Baqueira (except at La Pleta where it was generally excellent when we stayed there) - though it was streets ahead of the AC next door. Eg - there was an erroneous charge on our bill at check out time, and this was quickly and effectively dealt with and credited by the reception without argument - whilst you would expect that in this type of property my experiences at the AC would suggest otherwise !

Like AC, the pool / spa arrangement is strange with separate children's pool which is on a different floor - this is great for couples, but bad for families.

There is free wifi and it worked well throughout the hotel.

Parking is charged for, but we knew this and were advised so it wasn't a nasty surprise like it was at AC. It is also valet parking and the car delivered to the door as opposed to AC where you have to go looking for your car in the underground garage for the same price.

There is a nice lounge area with an open fire on the first floor, adjacent to a bistro restaurant where the food is OK but expensive - you do better to eat out in Arties / Salardu if you have a car, or in Baqueira if not.

Ski store facilities are in the same shared area as the Himalaya and AC so there is no convenience advantage regardless of which hotel you choose. Personally the Ruda 1500 complex (where AC, Val De Neu and Himalaya are located next door to each other) and its proximity to the telecabina is a real plus and whilst La Pleta is a great hotel, it is a hassle having to wait for the minibus to take you to the Tanau chair lift and back each day, as opposed to walking 200 metres to the ski store and the lifts.

One quirk was that the welcome book tells you that the mini bar is free, but there is another piece of paper with mini bar charges. It seems like in the "crisis" times, free mini bar has been consigned to history.

Before we left we did go next door and check out some rooms at the Himalaya and to be honest, there are quite similar (Junior suite) level to Val de Neu - so if the price is much lower then maybe its worth trying the Himalaya.... Nevertheless, I would certainly recommend the Val de Neu, especially if you get there on a special offer, as the rack rates are the most expensive in the village, and I don't know how much time you actually spend in the hotel when you are out skiing all day to make it worth the extra.

Room Tip: If you are in a family I would strongly recommend the single level Junior Suits as opposed to the du...

Our second visit, two January ski trips in a row and this time we brought some friends. Again this hotel delivers at a high level for this price bracket. The fireplace chill out zone remains a gorgeous place for evening drinks, the service is good, contrary to a previous review we find the breakfast service to be efficient and capable of delivering good coffee (similar to a double flat white which is our preference being from down under, and we are particular when it comes to coffee....). We age inhouse a couple of times as there was a complete snow storm which left us hotel bound. On our previous trip we ate in the valley but this time even Ticolet was difficult to navigate to without falling over. The hotel restaurant (not the fondue one) is high quality, beautifully executed, well presented at a higher cost than other places in the village or valley but still it's Spain so the cost isn't high for the standard if you compare with other parts of the world especially taking into account this is a ski hotel which are normally pretty average when it comes to food. Ah the bliss of being in Spain, this hotel as with the country takes food and wine seriously. We are returning next year. I kind of want to do the best for the community of the Aran and get the word out but selfishly I'd also like it to remain one of Spains little secrets. A fabulous ski hotel. My only wish is that the spa was included. We will not be paying 25Euros or so per person for a hot dip at the end of the day. I tried to negotiate an all up price for our stay but no joy....that's my only teeny gripe but not enough for me to be put off coming again.

folks, for a truly unique skiing experience, with the vastness of Vail and the charm of rural europe, the Val de Aron region is unsurpassed. If you go, I urge you to stay at the Val de Neu hotel, where old world charm meet new world capabilities. Simply excellent in every way.

Room Tip: ask for a view of the Baqueret mountain
