“Family holiday to celebrate my wife's70th”
Reviewed 11 January 2012

We booked via Scott Dunn in London who have never let us down. This was a family hols to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday on the 31st Dec 2011. Skiiing for the children, 5/10/12 plus three adults. Great ski resort if a bit busy after Christmas. Hotel staff very good at helping with ski gear. All very well organized putting/ taking on/ off and putting away. All staff especially helpfully. Valet car parking, Underground car parking at a cost if required. Super breakfast inc in rate. Great rooms, cosy beds, super linen. Good choice of restaurants for all tastes. Excellent restaurants in Bequeira also Artiese, especially the pinotage run by Aouth African chap African.
All in all of thecheapest but you do get what u pay for. Would we return, YES.

We stayed for a long weekend before the ski season so sampled the delights of the spa & restaurant & thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay!

We really loved this place. The right mixture of luxury (great swimming pool and spa, a ski butler to help with boots etc) and informality (tolerance of our small children, scrabble and playing cards available to borrow at reception) for a family holiday. And they really want to please. We had free snacks delivered to our room every day, and for our long drive to Barcelona they prepared, unasked, some journey bags for the kids with water and sweets. Rooms were great and the junior suite ideal for a family. Top tip is to drive there from Toulouse (2 hours) instead of Barcelona (4 hours). Baqueira may not be great for nightlife etc but is good for families. Highly recommended.

Having pretty exacting standards, we expected a lot from this hotel. And it didn't disappoint. Superb service, incredible food and one of the best ski hotel spas we have ever visited. The ski conceirge is on hand to make your transition from a hearty breakfast to the piste as efffortless as possible, whisking you to the ski lift just meters from the hotel. We loved the hotel, the resort and the Spanish warm welcome.

Room Tip: The Junior Suites are stunning and well worth pushing the boat out for.

Had an amazing stay here..the staff were really helpful and friendly and could not do enough for us. The general manager was very charming and a real character too. The room was very spacious and had a lovely alpine feel..it was so nice to come back to a luxurious room after a long day.

The food was fantastic...only problem was that we ate too much.

Easily accessible from Toulouse airport as it is near to the french border.

would definitely go back again!

We didnt know what to expect from the hotel and the ski area so were slightly nervoushaving our first family ski trip in Spain- we needn't have worried about either.
The hotel was bliss! the staff were charming and so helpful - they tried to help with everything possible and very rarely did they disapoint. The rooms were great and very clean and comfortable. Two of the restaurants were very good (the Sushi part was excellent and the A la carte restaurant had an amazing tasting menu that was superb value....and as for the breakfasts - WOW..utterly stunning! They also provided hot soup or hot wine when you got back from the slopes in the afternoon(nice touch).
One are that could improve i would say would be the normal restauarant menu(and bar menu too). it was a bit basic and samey and could do with more choice..the children had tired of chicken and pizzas by the end of the week. It could have done with some changing on a regular basis ....would have been great to get some tapas style choice (this would have stopped us ever wanting to go out anywhere else...we only did once anyway!). It does suffer from having no real places nearby to walk to in the evenings but that should not really bother you. If you do get the chance try to go out to one of the local bars (approx 15 to 20 mins away) for tapas....you cant book and reserve so get there as early as possible as the local food is wonderful and great value.
The spa is very nice (although my hot stone massage was a disapointment the following days treatment was an improvement). The pool is very warm and ideal for when the children want a break from skiing or to let off steam in the evening.
The ski rental shop is part of the hotel and makes life so easy - they are amazingly helpful, they take your boots from you when you arrive and dry them for you first before putting them back in your own lockers for you. They love the children and the shop staff are around all the time to help them get booted up etc.
The hotel is about five minutes drive from a chair lift that takes you up to the main area (the hotel runs regular shuttle mini busses in morning and afternoon)- be aware this lift doesnt stop at all but has attendants at both ends taking your skis and poles on and off for you . not the place for for learners at the start of the week. You can also catch this chair down in the afternoon as there is a nice apri ski bar right by the bottom.
The shuttle bus will also take you five minutes further on to the gonodla for those not comfortable with the chair lifts...again goes straight to main area.
For our first family ski holday we tried to find an area that was not too big but that had something for everyone in the family. Our two boys (7 and 4 yrs ) had private lessons for half a day with Tim and the guys from the British Ski School (cannot reccomend them highly enough) and my wife joined one of their schools for half of every day also. They all had an amazing time and came away having learnt so much in such a short space of time. Word of advice re the restaurants on the pistes - they arent very good so indulge yourself in the La Pleta breakfast! This is the only real criticism of the ski area as everything else is wonderful. The runs suit everyone and the lifts connect everywhere very well indeed. Enjoy it all before the secret gets out for good!

Room Tip: The suites are best value-make time for breakfast

We have been coming to the Val D’Aran area for skiing for several years and have stayed in various hotels – La Pleta is outstanding in every way and is by far the best hotel we have experienced so far in this area – it would be pretty hard to beat it by any standard. Its location is truly stunning and very convenient for some of the best skiing you will ever find. The slopes are really great, no queuing like in most other European resorts. It is peaceful and relaxing and, thankfully, not a “Larger Lout” or “Hooray Henry” in sight!! The spa package that we had was great in combination with the skiing – the Jacuzzi, steam room and plunge pool were very therapeutic as were the professional spa treatments after a hard days skiing! The breakfasts were brilliant with a wide range of food to cater for every nationality or palette. The staff were extremely helpful and eager to make our stay as pleasurable as possible. Whilst it is known by the Spanish as an exclusive resort, it is very unpretentious – a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate whether on a romantic break or a family holiday. It is a wonder that the Spainish have managed to keep this a secret for so long!! Now that the secret seems to be out we hope that it won't be spoilt as many other resorts have been - a real hidden gem!!. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay a truly memorable one - we will be back next year!
