'Spa Hotel' conjurs up images of chic luxury and the kind of place celebs go to dry out after being caught on a drunken night out by the tabloids - this the not the Georg Ots.
The GO Spa is more of a friendly, relaxing, modern hotel for people just wanting to enjoy a few spa treatments in a tranquil, unspoilt setting. The rooms are of a good size and tasteful, but not as design focused as some of the hotel's marketing might suggest. The ensuite smelt a little of drains but nothing too obnoxious - hopefully a one off.
The interior has a clinical, scandic feel with plenty of light and space while the outdoor patio is a great spot for dinner and drinks. The pool area and approx 50% of the rooms face out to see, across the grounds of the local yacht club, while the remaining rooms either look towards the town across the car park or over the small harbour towards the castle.
Food is fairly well priced and extremely healthy, if perhaps a little bland in cases, and the breakfast buffets are extensive. Spa treatments are approx half the price they might be in London and carried out by well trained staff (make sure you book treatments before you arrive in the summer). In fact, all of the hotel staff are helpful and go out of their way to make guests welcome.
The centre of Kuressaare, the island's capital, is approx a 10 min walk and has a number of good places to eat and drink. I would say that if you are not doing day trips by car or bicycles 3 nights is probably the right length of stay in the area, unless you are here just for the spa treatments. There is probably enough for families with kids to do locally if you go our exploring and the hotel seems to be kid friendly with an indoor playground annd pools.
If you arrive at the local airport (summer flights from Tallin, Helsinki and Parnu) the taxi to the hotel takes little over 5 minutes. Our flight from Helsinki took 55 mins while Tallin was 40 mins away when we left the island.
We booked direct with the hotel and were offered a good discount even during peak season (end July).
