This was the second time we have stayed since the reef opened
The first time was great that's why we returned
We are booked to stay again in July but will be cancelling
In basic terms not enough bang for the buck
The place has had no maintenance since we first came with doors to fridge off hinges can't open wardrobe doors curtains hanging off track ( the list goes on)
Upstairs lockable door need a new handle as we were locked out
The bathroom hadn't been cleaned / no toilet paper and we asked for beach towel 3 times
Let's face it this is the most expensive place on the island and in terms of cost $ 285 US it's more expensive than Quinci villas and the villas next door which are just fantastic
I felt ripped off staying there
The staff are great but management is non existent
When we arrived I could of sat on my suit case for an hr but ended up going to the desk
It's such a shame as this place could be great
The owner needs to take control before it's to late
I must also say the menu was great and it was the only place we ate the whole time we stayed in Indonesia thats breakfast lunch and dinner
We both ended up sick so not sure about their hygiene
Breakfast is a joke
Again this is more expensive than some of the best in the area
You can only have 1 of anything so if you have juice you can't have coffe
If you have fruit then forget about anything else on the menu
My wife and I ordered juice coffee fruit and then I had eggs and she had muesli it cost me additional 270,000 IDR
I asked why it was going to cost me and was told that was the way it is
If you are going to stay here I would suggest have your juice and fruit and then go down the rd and have breakfast for 80,000IDR at the big restaurant over the water
We have now rebooked to another hotel for july
I hope this review is creative criticism and the owner who is I think is Aust takes note
It seems he has had problems prior to this when I read the other amazing bad reviews

Dear 6aussies6,

Thank you for having taken your time to share these important points about your stay with us at the Reef.

We truly appreciate your feedback on this matter and I can assure you it is taken very seriously. I completely understand your frustration and disappointment with regards to your overall stay and that our standards of service have not been up to your expectation.

The Reef is currently under maintenance repairs as it is regularly but we have shared this information with our team to action all of the above points. Check in time is as per standard is at 2pm, as arrival was at 9:30AM, we did our best and managed to check you in at 12 which we do again apologize for. With regards to food hygiene the controlling measures in place are very strict and there has never been a concern but we definitely take your comments on board and will be sure to re-visit this.

The breakfast package at Karma Beach has been as such during these last months but we are currently re-organizing this to ensure the breakfast package is up to you as our valued guests expectations.

I would like to extend my sincerest apologies on your disappointment, I very much hope that you grant us with the pleasure of your return to offer you a true and personalized Karma experience and join our singer Anikiko’s event on July 18 2014.

Once again, thank you for your input and shared interest to see Karma Reef remain a special experience on Gili Meno. We truly hope you will give us another chance to welcome you back to our resort in July.

Thank you and Kind Regards.

Sincerely,

Nyoman Suastawa,

Gili meno is a beauitul, quiet, and friendly island offering a true cultural experience. The accommodation was absolute luxury in paradise. it was clean, and well appointed. management and staff were all exceedingly pleasant and professional. If we had any concern at all it would be the lack of local fare on the menu, which in itself was varied and the wine list extensive. having stated this, we found the many warungs offered both local and international choices which were all of a very high standard and cheaply priced.Overall, snorkelling, swimming, and walking were spectacular. The resort is a credit to royal and all employees should be congratulated. we will be back.

We settled at this new Gili Meno resort because a friend insisted to stay at the most luxurious option in Gili Meno. I have never stayed at a place that is so overpriced with the rudest management and very average bungalow, there are hundreds of other bungalows with much nicer presentation and most of all, a proper terrazzo open air bathroom rather than the all bamboo The Reef Resort. You might think it's eco friendly however inside the bamboo looks its all concrete because I saw it during the construction phase. By the way there is no doors at the Reef bungalows so the aircon is a waste of power, having mentioned the eco touch.

The local staff were super friendly and super nice but the bogan Australian management with their uneducated attire and accents, was a nightmare to deal with. We weren't sure how many nights to spend there (or in Meno) so we said we would inform them the next day if we were to extend. We asked one of the staff members the check out time and he said it was 11am. The next day the male manager approached to us and asked if we want to extand our stay. When we said we won't (we wouldn't have staid there even if we remained on the island) he told us that we have 20 minutes to pack and leave and that his eyes are on us and made a gesture pointing to his eyes and then to us. Customers or school camp? We couldn't believe it!

The guest relations manager was another species of a bogan, she would get so drunk every evening starting drinking at the resort's bar from sunset that she could hardly talk and recommend us to rent a fishing boat late at night to go to party at Gili Trawangan. If we wanted to be at Gili T, we would be there and not in Meno I guess.

So we were ripped off (the price-room value is schocking in comparison to what's available in Meno) and kicked out. I can not NOT recommend this place enough. Don't go there. When another luxurious resort opens on Meno later this year, the Reef will be long out of business with their attitude. I felt sorry for their staff also, the bogans treated them horribly.

Room Tip: All bungalows are beach front. So are most other bungalows in Gili Meno.

We were on Gili Meno staying in a different resort and walked past this place and totally fell in love with it. It is like nowhere else we have ever been or even seen. We loved it so much we moved out of where we were staying so we could spend the last two days of our holiday here. It was just incredible. The villas are beuitfully designed for maximum comfort and have stunning views of the ocean and sunrise. There is a seat hammock and beanbag loungers provided to make sure you relax to the max. Breakfast (included) was so delicious we decided to have our last meal in the restaurant - it is a lot pricer that most other places on the island, but totally worth it - one of the best meals we have ever had. I couldn't recommend The Reef any higher.

Room Tip: All the rooms are identical as far we could tell

We stayed at the Reef on Gili Meno from March 1 - 8, 2014. The island is very laid back and relaxing. The accommodations and food were excellent and the staff went out of their way to ensure we were well looked after! Managers Juan and Kelsie went above and beyond with their service. On our last night there, the staff decided to put on a romantic dinner for us...it was beautiful. We had a server (Hery) dedicated to us and he was very attentive. This dinner was made even more special by the way the staff assisted my wife in getting to Happy Hour and the special beach-side table...which was surrounded by candles in dug out holes in the sand. These candle holes were ringed with flowers. Earlier that day, my wife rolled her ankle and couldn't walk. As there were no crutches to be found, the staff improvised by putting a blanket in a wheel barrow and filling it with pillows. They then carried her from the bungalow to this alternate form of transportation. It was all fun and incredibly thoughtful.
We recommend this resort to everyone.

Have just returned after 10 days lolling, snorkelling, reading and sipping at The Reef. What a location! As wide travellers, I think this is one of the best locations we have vacationed at, having such wonderful snorkelling at your immediate doorstep is an incomparable treat. The island being tiny, it is a holiday, not a travel destination, but it is a wonderful place to loll and relax.

The lumbungs are very comfortable, airy and well set out. The appointments are thoughtful, and the ample storage made it easy to unpack and settle in. Hot (most of the time) fresh water showers from water shipped to the island daily were appreciated, as was the brilliant local staff who were happy to accommodate all requests efficiently and with a smile.

The restaurant food was consistently good (if a little boring after awhile, however there are plenty of others nearby to explore - some with brilliant, cheap local food) and the staff were happy to bring your food and drinks to your lumbung to eat on your verandah if you didn't feel like putting in your ear plugs to dine in the restaurant - the choice, and volume of music was often unbearable! After 10 days, we were so, so sick of the doof doof music! It may sound minor, but the lumbungs being thatched have no sound proofing, when the volume was up it was impossible to escape that mind-numbing beat, and we felt sorry for anyone staying closer to the restaurant. On one occasion, I asked the Aussie management to turn it down - she simply declined, saying that it was happy hour, and why didn't we join them? Mind you - there was no one there, and the music seemed to be for their own benefit! They seem to not notice that there clientele aren't back packers, and they are most certainly not paying back packer prices! The music was a common complaint amoungst guests, and not in keeping with the atmosphere of the place. It was a relief when the Aussie management had days off, and the music (and the volume) reverted to something more sedate.

Although the lumbungs themselves are comfortable, they offer no privacy and are quite close together. From the verandahs, each conversation is audible, and when you retreat upstairs, you can hear every word spoken from the lumbung next door if they are upstairs at the same time - really annoying, and you feel as though you are intruding on each other's privacy.

The Reef offers airport pick up, but make sure that you confirm details again and again unless you want to be left stranded as we were at Denpasar with the driver waiting for us at Lombok. We spent frustrating hours and a wasted day trying to find out what was going on, plus the cost of accommodation in Bali. When we finally arrived at Gili Meno under our own steam, no-one amoungst the disjointed management wanted to take any responsibility (even though I had the email which clearly gives the flight number, and another which states Denpasar) and we barely got an apology, let alone any compensation or the refund of the night's pre-paid accommodation. The situation was complicated by the fact that we had booked through Agoda, and initial contact re airport pickup was made through them. Before we left home, I had repeatedly tried to contact The Reef to confirm pick-up, however the phone number listed by Agoda is incorrect. Agoda finally prompted management to make email contact with me, which they did and an airport pick-up was arranged. Agoda also provided another phone contact, which was never answered - including while we were stranded at the airport! The whole situation was handled unprofessionally and each member of The Reef management merely blamed the other. To add insult to injury, when we finally arrived, the flippant Aussie check-in woman who greeted us seemed not to have noticed that we had been missing - and they only have 10 bungalows! It seemed that every issue was met with the standard response of "we still settling in".

Hopefully Chakra will get these management issues sorted out soon, as it truly is a beautiful location on a wonderfully laid back island.

Room Tip: Ask for a bungalow away from the restaurant and it's music, in the middle seems best (5 or 6...

We just spend two weeks at the Reef. The resort has a beautiful overall look with all the bamboo architecture in- line with ecological building.Completely open-air livingroom, restaurant and bar catching whatever breeze there might or might not be :). The views are just wonderful from everywhere in the resort and upstairs balcony was our favourite place to have morning coffee. The restaurant offered a rather restricted menu but what they do offer is of excellent standard. This is propably the best restaurant in the island.Their chocolate mousse is to die for!

Some of the restaurants nearby will also happily deliver to the lumbungs and good Lombok coffee and milk can be bought in the islands biggest shop.

The island is very quiet and we did escape into Gili T for a couple of days. Still as Karma Royal Residence members this is of very good value if you want to chill out, snorkel and generally not do much!

We feel that a few things would've made our stay even better. Upstairs AC isn't quite keeping up with the heat and at times we found it uncomfortably hot up there to sleep. During our stay in Jan. the majority of wind was coming from the west so the restaurant and the livingroom could have used a fan as there was often no breeze.

Luckily the staff always sprayed the bedroom for bugs in the evening and set up mosquito coils in the livingroom! You will still need to use spray in the evening if you want to spend time downstairs .

Wonderful stay and big thank you for all the staff for their friendliness!

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea. Lumbungs 6 forwards have the gazebos right at the seafront.

Hello.

Thank you for your review.

First of all we would like to say thank you for staying with us recently, Its such as a big tips for us to express our pleasure.

For about the restaurant menu, we only present a selective menu of the many items that have been selected by our master chef Raymond. We want to pamper our guests to enjoy food like chocolate mousse is from one of our menu presentation that you already enjoy.

We guess that you are right, because Gili Trawangan is very different environments right now compare with Gili Meno , its bring more enjoyable such snorkeling, swimming and also equipped from the living room.

We've been carrying out pest sprays into each room which we did 4 times a month to maintain the security of any insect form, besides that we also still hold spray every afternoon so any guests staying safe.

Finally we hope to see you for the next visit, we therefore take a proud to offer you service again.

On behalf of the whole team I would like to thank you again.

Best regards,
Staff and Management.
