“Lovely small hotel, spacious accomodation and fab pool!”
Reviewed 7 October 2010

We had a wonderful time here on our honeymoon in July. The hotel staff were friendly and the owner was very attentive to our needs. The room was lovely and spacious and modern, and we had a honeymoon fruit platter and cake on arrival, which was great! The best bit about the hotel is undoubtedly the pool, which is 80 metres long, with individual sunbathing decks facing onto it from each villa room. It was very quiet - ideal for just sunbathing and we sometimes had the place virtually to ourselves.

As the hotel is set inland (not an issue on an island so small-and it means its quieter) we hired bikes one evening after some persuasion as I was reluctant to jump on a bike...and it was the best thing we could have done! The whole island has no cars and so the only way to get around is by bike or Cidomo (horse pulled cart). Tip: bring a head torch if you're planning on biking at night - the bike lights are dim.

Finally breakfast was included and we opted for the indonesian option - very enjoyable! Our only criticism of the whole place was the orange juice - in every other resort we stayed you had fresh fruit juices - yet here it was that stuff you mix up from concentrate!

Overall though, a wonderful conclusion to our trip, we will definately visit again!!

My husband and I and our five month old baby recently spent five wonderful days at the Luce d'Alma on Gili Trawangan. The hotel is beautiful and the attention to detail delivered by the owners and hosts, Antonio and Lucio, makes for a fabulous stay - especially when travelling with a little one. The villas are spacious, clean and extremely comfortable, and all of the hotel's water has been filtered, including the shower and bath. We also didn't see one mosquito! The food is amazing and the staff were just divine. We loved it.

The Gilis are also a wonderful place to go with children. The Islands are free from malaria and dengue and there are no cars, motorbikes or noisy jet skis. When we were not lazing by the hotel's 80m salt water pool, we used their free bicycles to get around and enjoy the clean and peaceful beaches.

We can't wait to go back and will definitely be recommending this hotel to everyone.

Luce d'Alma was so much more than we expected, it was the highlight of our trip! We were a little concerned when the horse & cart turned off the beach "road" and headed down the dusty path, but the more than made up for not having a beach front location. In fact, that pool makes up for everything! The villas are large, airy and very clean and having pool access from your room is fantastic.

The meals are very reasonably priced and delicious. The hotel staff are all lovely and can't do enough for you. One morning I wasn't particularly hungry and ordered a light breakfast. The waiter looked a little concerned and after I had finished my breakfast he bought me over a fruit salad and some juice because he didn't think I had eaten enough and he didn't want me to go hungry!

A charming hotel, run by charming people, I will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful time during our stay. Traveling with two kids (6 and 9 yrs) we had a delightful time here. The boat trip towards Trawangan was a bit rough, but the hospitality and the large swimming pool made us forget the moment we arrived. We used bikes to go to the beach, the distance from the hotel was not at all a big issue.
Snorkeling with the kids was easy, lots of fish and a few big turtles. Visiting Meno and Air for snorkeling around is a must.
Thanks Luce d’Alma, hope to see you again very soon.

This lovely stylish Italian run establishment has a very welcoming feel starting with Antonio's enthusiastic greeting on your arrival and continuing right up to the time they wave you good bye. Miraculously , Antonio seems to remember all his guests names and walks around the breakfast room having a quick chat and check on all of us . He seems to pop up and always be asking if you need anything- water? a towel? nothing is to much of a problem for this genial host and his staff.
The rooms are huge and lovely, the breakfast terrific, and the pool simply enormous ( but salt water so bring the goggles) . The Hotel is a couple of minutes bike ride from the " main strip" down a lane , but the whole island is basically dirt /sand lanes...so it just adds to the charm in my view. The only downside to Luce is that it isn't on the beach , but they do have a lovely beach area at the end of their lane set aside for guests with deck chairs so one does in fact spend most of the day at the beach anyway.
I would recommend this hotel for those that want a little bit more luxury and a touch of European sophistication on Gili.
