As a 1st timer to Bale Sampan i must say i was impressed by the smooth service & well catering for my brief stay at this great resort. once we were shown our little villa i immediately knew this was a great choice of accomodation! one of the selling features was not only the clean hot water & air-con but the outdoor shower!

The front patio is small but cozy with some basic flaura & fauna, it is quiet & a nice place to wind down away from the crowd. It was after all a pool room villa just around the corner from the pool. The interior has ample storage in the main bedroom, 2 giant closets to unload the essentials & the bed & linen were superior.

Location wise it is nicely tucked in away from the main walking strip to minimize the noise & a quick walk to great restaurants and bars. In my opinion one of the best beach strips & snorkeling spots here in regard to the current being on the north side of the island.

Breakfast is delicious with a choice of english or full breakfasts with french press coffee & OJ.
The staff: Rudy, Atum, Mar and the team are very welcoming & warm whom were happy to arrange every request from snorkelling gear to bikes. FYI - Atum caters massages!

The only downside related to the wifi which was non-existant. A little issue which is easily fixable down the road if not already. A great stay for July 2011 & a nice mixture of calm sea breezes whilst listening to masjid prayers on most nights.

Expensive for what it is. Much better options available on the island. Rooms were nice enough but service was not good at all. Staff didn't care. Breakfast was ok. Nothing else to say as this place is very average.

Gili Trawangan & Bale Sampan WOW! We loved it the minute the speed boat dropped us on the watery shore in front of Bale Sampan Bungalows. As we had been staying over on Bali we took a short 30min scenic flight from Denpasar to Lombok. With transfers from Lombok Airport to Bale Sampan booked through the bungalows, after a one hour delay with no driver waiting at the airport, we set off on our way for the 2 hour drive & 15min speed boat trip. We had booked Bungalows 1 & 2 the only pool front bungalows for our 5 day stay on Gili T. The remaining garden bungalows were set up along a garden path running towards the back of the property, some with connecting balconies for families. After one of the owner's of Bale Sampan, Harriet, showed me through a few of these bungalows I can say they are of the same high standard as the pool front bungalows.

The bungalows were great with an outdoor bathroom (shower only), king bed, noisy air con when on high, wardrobes, mirror, safe, satellite TV, desk etc As the electricity supply on Gili T is limited the bungalows can not cater for an in room fridge which would have been an advantage. The offer of storing our own drinks in the hotel's kitchen fridge with 24hr access sounded fine but after trying to get the night security to access the fridge after the staff went home was another matter. He always said his manager has the keys & he could not open it. So we resorted to buying ice to fill a bucket to hold our evening drinks.

From our bed we had a view over the pool to the beach. The front patio & daybed was my favourite spot to sit. The pool is small but deep & refreshing with a couple of sun loungers. The little restaurant looking over the beach served a nice cooked breakfast each morning included in our room rate & they served lunches & afternoon tea till 4pm. It was not open for dinners which was fine because there were so many eateries just a stroll away.

The staff were all very genuinely happy, smiling, chatting & joking with you & asking about each days adventures. They all learn your first name & greet you with it all the time. This is a nice touch. We hired push bikes from them one day to ride around the island & they went & got us snorkelling gear to hire for our stay.

Yes you can hear the calls to pray at the nearby mosque throughout the day & at 4:45am every morning but to tell you the truth after the first couple of minutes on our first morning I never took any notice of it. The beach in front of Bale Sampan is really nice with sun loungers for guests only. The entire island is covered in dead coral but walk slowly on the beach & into the water & you will be fine. the currants can be strong so be careful if you haven't got fins on & go out to far. You can float down to the southern end with the currant admiring the fish. Along with all the dive shops & many resort BS has joined the cause to regrow coral using metal frameworks connected to low voltage electricity. It's worth snorkelling around to see some of these frameworks, only in the early stages, but there is a full motorbike down there with the seat, tyres, chain etc still in tact.

Our bike ride around the island took us about 4 hours but only because we kept stopping to swim in the beautiful clear waters, or take photos, or have a meal or a few beverages at a lovely little bar sitting all on it's own with cane beach loungers, chairs & umbrellas.

Gili T is such a picturesque island with it's sandy path/roadway, abundance of shady trees along the waterfront & inland jungle, different shades of turquoise waters teaming with fish straight from the shore & multiple little warungs, cafe's, bars & restaurants. It is a very quite, slow island life with only push bikes & horse & carts as it mode of transport. No motorised vehicles & no dogs but a plague of cats. We would joke everytime we stepped out of the bungalows onto the path "watch out for the traffic".

There was always a band playing somewhere along the main stripe at night & some good ones to. Our meals at Black Penny towards the southern end are worth mentioning. Excellent Aussie lamb chops, fresh seafood & spectacular deserts with some fun, happy staff.

We hired kayak's one day & paddled over to Gili Memo for a sticky beak. The waters were clear & warm on the top but cooler as you dive down. There were a couple of warungs setup on the beachfront were we had a nice lunch. We took a cart round around the island going through the middle to see the real villages & shops. We did a fair bit of snorkelling over here & hubby saw 2 large sea turtles.

As we usually holiday on the island of Bali this was such a refreshing, slow pace, beautiful spot to come to & we were so glad we did. Gili T & Bale Sampan will always be a part of our Bali trips from now on.

I remind myself to review this property as relative to our property in the island. The bungalows are set in a nice ground and plants. The room is rather comfortable and of good size. The staff are very friendly and food and juice delicious. It would have been better if the towels are of better quality, provision of floor towels and stronger water pressure.

I stayed here in November 2012 during my first trip to the Bali area and was lucky enough to stay for 2 weeks. The place is truly to die for. Set towards the quieter end of the main Gili T strip, Bale Sampan is close enough to the bars, places to eat and dive shops etc that you're only a couple of minutes bicycle ride away, yet far enough away to offer truly peaceful accommodation, perfect for a very relaxing and comfortable stay.

Our detached bungalow was simple yet offered everything we needed. The on-site generator proved its worth on several occasions during Gili T's seemingly frequent power outages and a good quality WiFi set up ensured we could maintain our links to friends and family back home and constantly draw envy by posting pictures of this most idyllic of locations!

I think what sets Bale Sampan apart from other places is definitely the staff, who are the most helpful and genuinely friendly bunch of people you could want to be looking after you during your holiday. From sourcing hired snorkel equipment to hiring out their own on-site bicycles, recommending places to eat and putting me to sleep on a sunlounger after a drunken night out which resulted in me being locked out of our bungalow (!!) and a next-day laundry service, the staff are more than capable of ensuring your stay is as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.

We were lucky enough to be treated to a guided sightseeing tour of nearby Lombok by one of the staff which was truly memorable and ensured we took in the vast majority of Lombok's main attractions - from temples to shopping malls to roadside monkeys - in a single day.

The freshwater pool is to die for and a welcome retreat from the heat. During my stay I decided that I'd found my favourite 2 square metres on Earth - the sloped edge of the pool where I could sunbathe while remaining cool with one arm and one leg submerged in the water!

Bale Sampan is truly a place in paradise and one which I cannot wait to visit again.

P.S. The banana and honey pancakes in the cafe are immense - highly recommended!
