“Great place to stay for both families and couples”
Reviewed 1 March 2013

We stayed at Scallywags in Feb 2013 with our two young kids (3 and 1 year old) and we loved it! Our approach was from the Scallywags Marina on their speed boat straight to the resort restaurant on the beach. You will get your feet wet but on the plus side, you don't have to walk or catch a horse cart from the main pier.

The rooms are very well appointed, quiet aircon that doesn't dry you up like some do. The open air bathrooms are amazing with their trees & vegetation, but beware of mosquitoes in the wet season. The rooms also have a little private garden out front where you can relax and dry your wet-suit and chill out.

The pool was great for our kids as it is warm, is not a diving school pool, not one for olympic swimmers but the fact that it has ledges in the water where young kids can safely sit & walk around, playing with the decorative pebbles is a great source of fun for young kids. The owner, an affable Aussie, told us proudly that his daughter learned to swim in the pool and I can see why: it's a super pool for kids.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

For the perfectionist, the breakfast spread could be a little richer but we were quite happy with our morning omelette, pancakes, fruit salad, we don't eat English breakfast but it was available and I enjoyed my morning ice Cappuccino which was also included in the price.

The doors can also be a little difficult to operate as tropical climates wreak havoc on the wood panels so the door to our garden was a little stiff, but again that's being picky.

Finally, if you have two kids, a pram, a bunch of suitcases, make sure you don't order a "taxi" to take you back to the airport as all taxis on Lombok island are Toyota Vios. You need to get a minibus. Again, here the staff was very helpful when the Vios turned and they sorted us out!

Alltogether a super place to stay, great restaurant attached to it, and good value for money.

Room Tip: from what we could tell, all the rooms look similar. If you want to have a connecting room, the con...

I stayed at Scallywag's for 4 nights in August for a girls' getaway trip. We were very impressed with this hotel. It isn't a luxury hotel, but it is really cute! There's a private patio at the front of the room entrance and the bathroom and shower are outside (no worries, it's a private area so no will be able to see you). I really liked the refreshing feel of showering outdoors, but the water pressure wasn't very strong so sometimes i got cold. I recommend showering in the day when the sun is out. The room was always kept clean.
They have a very nice pool, which you can turn to if you get tired of the beach.
Hotel perks: they have a sister hotel on another Gili island so the hotel will arrange a speed boat to take you there and back. You just have to pay a hotel credit, which you can use for lunch, drinks, ice cream, etc. Another perk is the included breakfast buffet, which I thought was pretty extensive (Asian and western breakfast food).
Hotel downer: sketchy wifi

I would definitely stay at this hotel again. It might be a bit more expensive than other hotels, but I think it's worth it

Tip: you don't need to take a buggy from the ferry to get to this hotel unless you're old and frail. It's probably about a 6 minute walk away.

Loved the outdoor showers and the delicious menu which offered some of the best food on the island.Generous breakfast and quiet location. 2 cons: erratically cold air conditioning and the hot side of the tap looks like the cold, but these aren't big issues.Wonderful stay!

Just returned from a two night stay at Scallywags, great rooms - loved the outdoor shower/bathrooms and very clean property, friendly staff, only thing lacking was breakfast and breakfast service, variety of food was poor, and staff at breakfast not so great or friendly. We found the Scallywags restaurant at night the same, even though staying there we were not getting attended to in a timely manner and sat for at least half an hour trying to get waiters attention to get a drink? Seems to be consistent in this area with reviews, so maybe if you could improve on service Scallywags, as such a great little place to stay and very comfortable and great location near all the main bars, restaurants and action on Gili T, yet also far enough away to get a good nights sleep. We would definitely stay here again! Pretty much had the pool to ourselves the entire time too - pool bar staff were great!

Second stay at Scallywags. As Fantastic as expected/remembered. Rooms large, well equipped with outdoor balinese style bathroom. Pool nice to cool off in.

Wonderful food at the restaurant. However the buffet breakfast for guests could be improved a little.

Great staff, friendly and helpful.

Didn't stay in resort but went for few meals in restaurant recommended by Australian woman who lives on Gili T.
First lunch started on bad note but ended on good - ordered goats cheese salad but it was so full of oil - couldn't eat. Staff apologised and instead I got the best feta and watermelon salad ever. And they didn't charge for first dish ( in many places before they did charge around Indonesia). ns I got yummy fruit shake as greetings from chef. So sweet.
Come back for BBQ tuna in evening. Amazing. They do fresh organic salads to go with grilled fish too. Very tasty. Or different potatoes for no healthy option. ;)
Tried also their indonesian food other days. Was pleased too.
Would recommend as a good place. But it's not the cheapest around.
Lovely views on beach and friendly staff.
