We love the food, we love the place, we love the property... but, it's not enough... I notice that we are the only domestic guests but your treatment seems like discriminate to the foreigner... you need to learn how to treat your guests equally as they are your revenue contributor. We are senior hotelier in Jakarta, traveller and spender and we know exactly how to treat the guests, just this is unacceptable...

Gili Air is a beautiful island a little off the beaten track. Good clean and private room with airconditioning and a nice large bathroom. Open air restaurant on the beach with great fresh food, it really is paradise.
Gili Air Hotel is on the north side of the small island so a half hour walk or quick pony and cart ride to the ferry and main area with shops and warungs all the way. We were only ever in the room to shower, change or sleep, the surroundings are so beautiful.

Room Tip: Ask for room near the pool if that is important.

The location was really nice, on the north side with lovely sunsets and a bit quiter than the rest of the island. Staff where friendly and helpful, tho had to wait for approval from manger before doing anything and he was gone between 3-6 daily.

There where so many flies they almost carried your food away, unlike any other restaurant on the island and they seemed to do nothing about them, not even wiping tables so the flies covered the sticky spots.
Although the pool was cleaned daily it still had thick green slime on the walls that would come off every time my daughter jumped in and floated around all day.
Manager was hopeless and did not have a clue about hospitality or how to run a hotel, would not let the staff make even simple decisions without him.
The bungalows where poorly maintained, the tv box had to be replaced upon arrival, the shower totally broke off in my hand, the air con barely worked and the power points where hanging out of the wall exposing wires.
Food was more expensive than any where else on the island, the mini bar was only restocked twice during the week and I had to hassle for those times.
Eftpos wasn't working so had to go to other side of island to ATM before checkout just to pay the bill.

As a hotel, Gili Air Hotel was very respectable - good value for money, great beach-side location and our room was clean, comfortable and air-conditioned. Had it not been for one glaring negative, my rating would've been a lot higher. Consider it a tale of caution.

On our last morning, we booked a cidomo to take us to the harbour. As our fast boat was leaving at noon, we asked to be picked up at 11am so we would be there with plenty of time to check in. Although the staff at reception told us it was fine, we only found out at 11am that the cidomo (the hotel seems to have it's own) had been booked by someone else for the same time and that we'd have to wait for it to return. As the minutes ticked by, we could only marvel at the irresolute nonchalance of the staff in the face of our increasing desperation. Eventually, 5 minutes before we were due to check in at the harbour, our cidomo returned! Naturally, we were late for check in but this proved inconsequential as our boat had already left.

I can't lay all the blame for this on the shoulders of Gili Air Hotel (our boat did leave ahead of schedule although thankfully it came back to get us later) but I do hold them largely accountable. If only they had told us that the cidomo wasn't available at 11am, we could have explored other options: we could have booked it for an earlier time slot, we could have arranged another cidomo to pick us up, we could have walked!

Ultimately, the moral of this story is not to avoid staying at Gili Air Hotel, but to check, double-check, triple-check that you can leave it.

Beautiful location right on the beach, perfect for watching the amazing sunsets with a cocktail in your hand. Rooms are fine, a little tired and could do with a spruce up but overall it's the perfect place to kick back and relax. Enjoyed my time here. The restaurant on site is nice, or it's a half hour walk along the beach where you will find a good selection of restaurants and bars.

Didn't stay at the hotel but had dinner here two nights running.
You choose your fish or cut of fish and they BBQ it on the beach while you sit in the bamboo booths right above the high tide mark.
Great to watch the sun set ☀️
Tuna was the best ever had!
They forgot our rice both nights, and had a little trouble with service, but over all they were very friendly and willing to help.
