The Pointhouse at Sargeant Bay
Ranked #1 of 7 Halfmoon Bay B&B and Inns
Reviewed 7 May 2014

The Pointhouse is stunning - a must see. Beautifully designed, light, spacious and airy with amazing views. We stayed here in April, my husband and I with our 10 month old daughter. Ideal for a quiet, relaxing time away, with beautiful wildlife surroundings.

We stayed in the B&B which is immaculate with lovely modern furnishing, but very comfortable. Heather and Bob are wonderful hosts, very friendly. The gourmet breakfast was delicious - freshly cooked.

Unfortunately for us we were only there for a night, nevertheless we were so relaxed it felt like we had a longer break and we look forward to returning.

Thanks for your complimentary review of the Pointhouse. It was a pleasure meeting you and sharing the bay if only for a day. Glad you were able to relax and enjoy a taste of BC's Sunshine Coast. Love to see you again. Cheers, Heather

We stayed over the Easter weekend. Family of 4 and this a perfect place to explore from. The hot tub is wonderful to relax in after a day hiking. There are two beds, one pull out sofa in the office area and one near the front door. Perfect for kids. The master bed room is a nature paradise looking out back into the natural garden and patio. The only downside to all the beautiful view is a distinct lack of curtains. View is wonderful but you get up with the sun. Still worth coming but worth noting if you're late day sleeper and want a dark room ;)

The photos are accurate which I always appreciate. Heather and Bob are wonderful communicators and the reservation process is easy and fast.

Overall we loved the location and will return when we come back to the Coast.

Thanks for taking the time to write a helpful review. The floor to ceiling windows are great for experiencing nature by blurring the boundaries but yes all that expanse of glass can be a bit too revealing for light sensitive sleepers even though the main bedroom looks onto a mossy forest glen. We have a couple of sleep masks though it sounds like more might be useful. Thanks again. Hope to see you back on the coast again.

My husband and I recently spent 5 nights at the Pointhouse and we departed wishing it had been longer. The property is stunning, clean simple lines, calming decor and the views, oh the views. We stayed in Islets and it had everything we needed with so many thoughtful touches including a Nespresso machine. Heather and Bob were such considerate hosts, Heather even supplied us with fruit and energy bars when we left for our kayaking trip. Delicious gourmet breakfasts, good coffee and wildlife spotting eased us into each day and contributed to a very chilled trip. We don't tend to return to destinations but for the Pointhouse we would make an exception.

Thank you for the lovely review. It was a great pleasure meeting you and sharing the bay. Thanks to your keen eyes we racked up quite a tally of sightings for birds and marine mammals. Looking forward to a return visit the next time you need to chill.

My husband and I came here for our mini moon at the beginning of September of last year. The Pointhouse is so beautiful and everything looked exactly like the pictures, if not even better in person!! The views are breathtaking from anywhere in the house and the area is so peaceful and tranquil. The architecture and details of the house are stunning and the furniture and decorations are beautiful and luxurious. The hosts are so gracious and kind and made us feel welcome and told us not to hesitate to call them for anything. We really enjoyed the hot tub at night and in the daytime and used their barbeque area outdoors. Just sitting on the balcony and reading a book or looking out was also one of my favourite things to do there. The breakfasts prepared by the hosts were extremely delicious. Everything was perfect and I could not have asked or wished for anything better. Thank you for the wonderful stay. :)

We were lucky enough to be able to spend a whole week in the Pointhouses gorgeous guesthouse, a little further up the hill from the main house with the B&B. It was the most perfect vacation spot we can imagine, with gorgeous architecture, decoration and stunning surroundings! Even in early October the trip was more than worth it and we think this place will disappoint no one at any time of the year. Intensely recommended!

Room Tip: Both the B&B rooms and the Aerie guesthouse are just gorgeous

My wife and I stayed at the Pointhouse for two nights in July 2013 and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

The Pointhouse is a high-end bed and breakfast located in what is essentially a small waterfront estate on Halfmoon Bay. It is located on the beach at the bottom of a small hill just east of Sergeant Bay Provincial Park. It took us approximately 45 minutes to drive straight-through to the house from the Langdale ferry terminal. The property consists of four structures: the main house (the Pointhouse) has three suites and a number of common areas and is built upon (and integrated into) rocks that jut out into the bay. A smaller guest house is located farther back from the beach and higher on the property. There is also a lovely small teahouse and a large covered patio area (which doubles as a carport) on the property.

This is a well-designed B&B experience. Though the proprietors live in the house it was designed as a bed and breakfast, making it essentially a small inn: aside from the book collection, the Pointhouse has surprisingly few indicators that it is also a home (which is not a criticism). The architecture and overall aesthetic - which is part of the experience - is modern and sophisticated. The quality is uncompromising: suites and common areas are beautiful, contemporary and immaculate. Not only is the house itself essentially a display piece it contains wonderful components: state of the art digital entertainment systems, art pieces, beautiful furniture, etc. I would not bring children to this place, as much as they would enjoy the beach and property. Enjoy the Pointhouse as an adult couple's getaway.

We stayed in the Islets suite, one of the three suites in the main house. This was the best designed B&B suite we've stayed in. Take a look at the pictures on the website: they do not lie, and may actually undersell the place. The view is better in person than in the photos. The amenities were as good or better than what you would experience at a hotel: every modern convenience, huge comfortable bed, personal privacy and immaculate housekeeping. There are small touches that need to be experienced to be appreciated: doors that roll open so that your room becomes part of your private deck, a tub that looks out into the bay, a shower large enough to hold a convention. The entire room is oriented towards the bay. Every possible ultra-current technology, from sound systems to light systems, has been custom built into the house. There are luxury hotel chains that could learn lessons from this place.

Breakfasts were held on one of the common decks (you could probably have it served anywhere). These meals were excellent: the hostess clearly loves to cook gourmet breakfasts. Fruit, ricotta lemon pancakes, yogurt, orange juice, frittata, all made fresh and served beautifully.

The hostess is friendly, relaxed and available but not intrusive. If we needed something we asked her, but otherwise we were left to enjoy the house, the view and the professionally-landscaped-but-still-naturally-west-coast property. We came and went as we pleased.

The house is on the beach - it is built above the water - so you can wander across the rocks or go kayaking by walking down a small flight of stairs from the house. Eagles fly around, fish jump, cruise ships roll past in the distance: you can watch all of this from your room (literally from your bed), or from your large private balcony, or through the floor-to-ceiling windows in one of the lounge areas in the house, or on the huge common deck, or from the private beach, or from one of the many little seating areas sprinkled around the property. Walking to the public beach at Sergeant Bay Provincial Park takes about five minutes.

A few tips (not criticisms):
- Mosquitos can be a problem in the late evening due to freshwater pools on the upper beach. - Close your patio doors before dusk or you will become a meal (but keep the screened windows open).
- There are no drapes or blinds in the room. This is deliberate, and is part of the experience. If you're a light-sensitive sleeper bring a sleeping mask with you.
- Finding the property can be tricky because there is no signage and the property is located down a poorly marked dirt road at the end of a short paved street. Just follow the dirt road to the end, then down a steep driveway. Look for a sign at the end of the dirt road with the number.
- It's pricey, but you'll soon see why. You need to make very few of the typical B&B compromises at the Pointhouse.
- It's about 10-15 minutes by car to Sechelt down the highway so going for dinner or running to the store is easy.
- The beach is rocky, not sandy. Welcome to British Columbia!
- Incredibly there we no other guests in the main house when we stayed there. The house seems effectively designed to preserve privacy.

The entire property and experience is well-designed. We used our time at the Pointhouse to read, sleep, relax and meander along the beach. It was perfectly suited for this. We expect to return - perhaps during storm watching season - and we heartily recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main house are closer to the water than in the guest house.

My wife and I stayed at The Pointhouse in early June 2013 to enjoy a romantic weekend, celebrating a birthday/anniversary. We took advantage of their Romance package, and were treated to a superb dinner prepared and served by Alan, our personal chef for the evening. The Islets room was spacious and incredibly well-appointed - tastefully decorated and with ultramodern touches. The common areas of the house are similarly beautiful and functional - the whole place could be featured in Architectural Digest someday. The property is spectacular, both in terms of its physical location on a little bay, and the resort-like amenities throughout. And of course, there's lots to do outdoors around Halfmoon Bay, like hiking, kayaking, bicycling, etc. Finally, the hosts are very welcoming, helpful, and easy-going. It was a real treat to stay there.

Room Tip: Both B&B rooms are wonderful, but the Islets room has the better views.
