“Zero value for money - be ready to leave feeling you have been ripped off”
Reviewed 12 August 2009

While the area is nice, and the tent suites are quite cute, the value for money in this resort is just not there. We stayed in a three bedroom Ocean View cabin. The 3 bedroom cabin is $CAD 265 per night plus you have to pay an additional $CAD 25 per person for every occupant over 2 (not 2 years old - double occupancy). What could be the point of booking a more expensive, three bedroom cabin if you are only two people?? Cabin is about the best work I can think of to describe the unit. It is not luxurious in the least. It had not been properly cleaned when we arrived (the remnants of someone's animal cracker were in a corner and remained there for the duration of our stay). The kitschy mismatched faded plastic Adirondack chairs on the balcony were our first warning that the marketing far exceeds the reality. Claustrophobic rooms, and a living area with only two chairs and horrendous decoration ensure that you will spend very little time in your room. As others have said, with the rates that you pay, you expect a level of luxury similar to what you would get at a five-star hotel. Make no mistake. This is no five-star hotel. It is more reminiscent of a road-side motel run by the Beachcombers. Don't get me wrong - many of the staff are very kind, but they are not of the calibre you expect when paying $300 for a cabin. Another turn off was the fact that our cabin was less than 40 metres from the septic system (and yes, you can smell it). Fortunately there were other cabins ever closer so we counted our blessings (Cabin 6 is about 10 metres away - beware)

Similar experience to others in the dining area. Tacky and outdated, the waitresses level of professionalism and knowledge is about what you would expect at a local diner. That said, many were very kind, it is just that when paying so much, a lot is expected. This place does not deliver on any level, except perhaps the location.

To be fair, the tent suites are nice and the boardwalk unique and charming, but at $429 plus tax, there is no way it is worth it. Can you imagine what you could get elsewhere for that money??? I am not sure I could even swallow spending that money if a friend offered me free nights as a gift. I would just feel ripped off.

For someone who wants to vacation along the Sunshine Coast, I am sure that there are many other options out there. I would not recommend wasting your money on this place.

Three nights was not nearly enough. Enough time for what? To do absolutely nothing -- which in my opinion, is the best thing to do during your stay at Rockwater. My fiance and I stayed in one of the incredible tent suites. I can't imagine being there and not staying in one... the bed was heavenly, the view from the bathtub was surreal. We enjoyed wine on the balcony overlooking the sunset each evening. It was so romantic being there when it was cold - the perfect excuse to just enjoy the views from inside (and the heated tile floors!).

The only, and I mean only complaint, is the restaurant. There really is a lack of nearby places to grab food and the restaurant was overpriced and boring. We had Valentine's Day dinner there which left us both pretty underwhelmed. But walking back to our tent suite on the boardwalk with a bottle of champagne in hand, all was forgotten!

We will definitely be back.

Just returned from the Ultimate Adventure Package at Rockwater! The tent accommodations rivaled any 5 star resort room...jacuzzi for two, rainforest shower, king size bed, much more plus an incredible ocean and woods view! The upbeat and accomodating staff added to the complete getaway experience. We have been to a number of top rated ultimate resorts in Canada and this one ranks right with the top. Give yourself a tent experience in the lap of luxury!

My wife and I had they pleasure of spending a night in a luxury tenthouse suite. All we can say is "WOW". We checked in and as the bellman was escorting us along the boardwalk, a huge bald eagle flew over our heads!!! We relaxed all afternoon enjoying the ocean and all the sounds it brings with it. The spa without walls program they have at the resort is a "must have". We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant, Chef Ben and his team delivered a world class experience and utilizes local products where ever possible. Everyone should visit Rockwater at least once, you will not regret it.

The staff were some of the best I have ever seen being from the hospitality industry! If you don't mind the travel to get there and maybe a walk to the tent suites it is great. The views were fantastic and the food was great. We woke up to the gentle sound of waves and deer outside our patio!

Definitely very helpful and kind staff. We booked in a tent suite on a weekend with two weddings, we worried about noise but no problems from the wedding. Couldn't have an evening swim in the pool though as the rehearsal dinners were set up on the pool deck.

The tent suite was very nice... bring bug spray. The room was fairly clean, but still had candy wrappers and litter on the floor and the coffee machine had a used filter still in it. We stayed two nights and they still didn't clean the coffee machine. Other small details missed. Not such a big deal if we hadn't paid so much for the suite.

The tents get hot during the day, and the tubs are fun but sound like small turbine engines. Most of the others in nearby suites were very considerate, but they are canvas walls, and the couple in the tent below us was blaring the radio and having very loud not-so-friendly discussions on and off the entire stay.

The continental breakfast was pretty good. You have to pay 10$ extra to get it delivered to your suite. The dining room is dated, bringing back visions of it's previous life a a hunting lodge dining room. The pool is right outside the dining room window. The food was delicious, the serving staff very friendly.

Not bad all-in-all, but paid less for Sooke Harbor House and was blown away by service and attention to detail.

We went to Rockwater to get married. we took advantage of the elopement package they provide. Prior to arriving we were able to correpond with Kevin Toth and get all the details worked out for our wedding. We arrived and everything was exactly as we had discussed with Kevin, and more. The kitchen staff headed by Chef Ben Andrew served up flavorful, local and creative meals. We were able to stay in one of the Tent suites, which are not to be missed. The experience was everything we could have hoped for and more. Kevin and his staff are friendly, attentive and very helpful. This jewel on the Sunshine Coast is not to be missed. Thank you for a really wonderful wedding and all around experience.
