We have just spent 7 days in one of the apartments - staying half board, so having breakfast and evening meal at the hotel.
In December 2012 we stayed in the Cordial Mogan Playa, just a 10 min walk away.
Why did we return to Puerto Mogan ? - it is full of character, is relatively quiet, and aimed at the +35 age group - and long may it remain so !
The 1 bedroom apartment was spacious, had all the necessary bits and pieces, kitchen, small balcony plus a shared roof balcony, TV, - I can't think of anything we missed.
The roof balcony speaks of a lifestyle not found in UK, interconnecting sun kissed spaces brightened by flowering bougainvillea, entertainment spaces - al fresco at its very best. If you love outdoor living you will love the roof balconies of all the apartments in Mogan.
The hotel is situated in one of the most superb locations you will ever find - wonderful views of sea, beach and mountain - it truly is fabulous.
The hotel itself is not of the same standard, I am judging harshly here because of the expectations we had when seeing the location. We expected to find a Hilton type experience - but it does not come up to that level.
The restaurant has the most superb views, we enjoyed breakfast as the morning sun made its appearance and gazed at the changing colours on the mountainside as the setting sun bid farewell.
The staff were universally fabulous - all went out of their way to assist.
The layout of the restaurant needs work - the tables and chairs are too clumsy in the space available so its a case of checking behind you when moving so as not to knock a fork full of food off of the occupants at the adjacent table. This is one of the areas that lets the Hotel down.
The quality of the food is good without ever being exceptional - I do think the Hotel rests on its winning location rather than the quality of its facilities.
So having stayed at the 2 best hotels in Mogan which one would we choose for our third visit ? - for us it would be the Cordial Mogan Playa - it is a better hotel with quality amenities - but then it depends how important the location is for you - if u are the 8 hours a day sun worshipper, and there are plenty of those who rush to get their towels on the sunbed at daybreak - ensuring that no one else will get to " their seat" for the duration of the day, then "location" is probably for you. If you prefer an all round quality experience then Cordial Playa would be the choice.
Whichever you choose - you will love Mogan !

We've just returned from a week of complete relaxation and would return again tomorrow if we could.
The hotel is perfectly situated with views of the marina and harbour on either side. It's in the middle of the resort and amidst the many bars and restaurants, but its a quiet little oasis. Gorgeous views to the sea from the dining area which were a relaxing way to wake up with your morning coffee.

The breakfast buffet was amazing with a speciality tea section, a Canarian section, a diet section and everything else one could possibly want for breakfast. We didn't visit for the evening buffet so can't comment on that. The service was exceptional with all staff willing to go the extra mile.

The pool area was beautiful, mainly for the views of the sea surrounding it, but was well kept and very clean. Would agree with other reviewers about the selfish lot that reserve the best beds and that this goes unchallenged by the hotel. Something they need to address.

The hotel spa is excellent value, and if you visit do it earlier rather than later in your stay as from that point on you have free access to the spa pool and relaxation facilities.

We rented a car from the airport which cost us very nearly the same as a cab both ways, but we had the benefit of being able to travel and see other resorts and had a trip up into the mountains. Parking in the resort is a pain though so if you are driving be careful where you park and on a Thursday evening you have to move your car right away as there is a market on a Friday and apparently any cars left in the market area ( which is right near the hotel) are towed away with a 200 euro fine.

Whilst other parts of the island that we saw were more built up and busy, this was a really pretty little resort and had a real class about it. We will be looking forward to going back as soon as we can.

Room Tip: Be careful whether you are booking an apartment or the hotel. The hotel only offers half board accommodation. For B&B or room only you will be in an off site apartment.

Location alone is enough to win my 'excellent' rating. Puerto Mogan is far and away the best spot in GC. This hotel overlooks beach and town on one side and marina on the other. Rubbing shoulders with wealthy yachties is my idea of style. Definitely not a package tourist hotel .It has more the elegance a discerning and seasoned traveller would appreciate. We loved it. Our room was perfect. Spacious and a shady balcony to die for. Telly of course rubbish but my laptop gave us good after dinner entertainment before bed. Room well maintained, no issues there. Dining all good. Quality buffet with plenty of tables. Dining staff outstanding. They work hard and fast to keep tables clear and what I really appreciated, did not attempt to patronise or 'amuse' the guests as so often happens.

Again the pool is perfectly located, lightly heated, but once you are over the first immersion its fine. There are sufficient sunbeds but those sad souls of the dawn patrol were in evidence despite strict (unenforced) rules against reserving beds. If any sunbed- bagger reads this you should be aware you are a selfish git. The ones who reserve two beds, one in sun and another in shade, deserve shooting but such is the way of the world it will ever be. A bit like dog poo on a pavement!

I did consider docking a point because a couple of very minor niggles were brushed aside by reception but it was done charmingly so I give a full 5 star rating.

Would I return? Wouldn't stay anywhere else!.

Our first visit to one of the "commercialised" Canarian islands and although the island as a whole did not appeal, way too much like Benidorm or Torremolinos, the resort of Puerto de Mogan is exceptionally beautiful, and this hotel sits in the most spectacular location possible.
The staff at the hotel are amazing and couldnt do more for us. However there are some issues with the hotel:
Bathrooms - these resemble a bad hotel from the 1970's, lots of cracked tiles and not the most hygenic by some distance.
Pool discipline - some of our North European cousins (I am being PC here!) still reserve their sunbeds by draping towels on them, the earliest we saw was in fact 10.30 the previous night! Although the hotel has a rule to discourage this but there is zero attempt to enforce the rule!

There are three excellent hotels in Puerto Mogan and several others I know nothing about.
I love Puerto Mogan Hotel because it suits my way of holidaying. I take life easy now and cannot walk as far as I used to do. The food is excellent. The staff are wonderful. The service is always top class.
Parking is difficult and expensive. If you wish to hire a car and tour Gran Canaria then you are better staying at Cordial Mogan Valle or Cordial Mogan Play. Both of these are excellent hotels with fantastic food and conditions.
We stayed in the apartments in Puerto Mogan as we have done before.
The apartments are varied but are all fine. We like halfboard because we don't want to cook on holiday. Others prefer to be self catering when staying in the apartments. The have adequate facilities for that.
The bathroom is fine though the bath was small. There is only enough water for one shower unless one is a quick shower person. It does heat up again and we took time and turns over showering so had no problems.
I see that Renate is mentioned in another review. She is a superb receptionist and treated us well. However all of the other receptionists are also brilliant and helpful.
The restaurant staff are quick, efficient, polite,. helpful and worth a congratulatory mention.
We will sty here again next year though we have stayed AT THE OTHER HOTELS THAT I HAVE MENTIONED AND FOUND THEM BRILLIANT TOO.
Note the beach is a short walk away so remember that it is not in the hot6el grounds though swimming in the sea is possible from steps at the hotel
Transport has to drop you two or three hundred yards from reception as there is no access for coaches.

Room Tip: If Disabled stay in hotel. All apartments involve steps.
