This was our first visit to Gran Canaria but hopefully won't be the last. After a 3 hour flight delay we were relieved to be greeted by our pre-booked taxi driver (Canary Transfers 53 euros). A short transfer (friendly and informative) later we arrived at the hotel and were checked in by the lovely Renate. She offered us the choice of two apartments, suggested we leave our cases at reception, take the two keys for the apartments, go and look round both and choose which one we wanted! That's a first - after dozens of holidays! We chose 272 which had the sun on the balcony from morning till evening and overlooked one on the long streets. The other was 218 which overlooked the courtyard (which was also pretty) but would have the sun from afternoon till evening.
We also hired the safe (2 euros per day plus 6 euros refundable deposit) and pool towels (10 euros refundable deposit and 1 euro to change them).
We had a slight problem with the safe and also the air conditioning. These were dealt with and rectified as soon as we reported them to reception.
The apartment was spacious, clean and had everything we needed - kettle, fridge, microwave, etc. There was also an iron board which was handy but no iron. Perhaps you can borrow one from reception but I had my own so didn't ask. The hairdryer provided was powerful unlike most in hotels/apartments. The roof terrace (shared by two apartments) had a table and chairs, sunbeds and a shower.
We stayed half board and were very impressed by the quality and selection of food available at both breakfast and dinner. First time I've ever had a Bloody Mary for breakfast! There was also champagne and orange juice available. Evening theme nights included Canarian, Mexican/Oriental and Italian. The views from the dining room were stunning.
On the Friday and Saturday there was some entertainment (singing/guitar, saxaphone) on the roof terrace and at the pool bar beside the dining room.
The pool was clean with plenty of sunbeds (which were always available) but there was a shortage of parasols which really are needed in such high temperatures. The views from the pool which is adjacent to the dining room were also lovely.
Drinks in the hotel were fairly comparable with the resort. A small selection of cocktails 5.50 euros (whether or not it had alcohol in it!), vodka and coke 6.50 euros and small beer 2.50 euros. Beer was definitely cheaper out and about.
The TV area on the first floor of the hotel had a good selection of books to exchange.
The staff were efficient and for the most part friendly. A special mention and thanks to Renate and Moises both of whom stood out for their friendliness.
We had a fabulous holiday and it's the first time in 15 years my partner has said "I want to come back here next year!" I'm taking him at his word and already looking!!
