“A really excellent hotel”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

Spent 11 days at the lovely hotel in early February 2014. Booked it after reading such glowing reports on Trip Advisor and wasn't disappointed in any way. Wanted a sunshine break in winter for my Dad and myself. My Dad had his 86th birthday whilst we were there and he received a Birthday letter and cake from the hotel management (unprompted by me, they just noticed and put them in our room whilst we were out for the day). A nice, thoughtful touch. Dad was thrilled (he thought it was my doing initially!).

The hotel complex is huge with lots of different accommodation blocks built around quadrangle gardens which are just amazing. Large trees, plants, waterfalls, bridges, stepping stones etc. I'm sure later in the season there would be spectacular flower displays but in January there were only a few plants in flower. Inside the main hotel the gardens continue with more streams, waterfalls, bridges and even more outside around the pools. It really is more like a botanical garden.

The hotel was spotlessly clean everywhere. Even around the pools the 'sandy beaches' were raked and cleaned every evening. Rooms were cleaned daily and beds were comfortable without any plastic covered mattresses. DVD player was provided - a pleasant surprise. We took a travel kettle but could have borrowed one at no charge from reception. Have never come across this service before. Large beach towels provided at check in for use around the pool. Change them as often as you like for a clean one.

The food in the restaurant was mostly well cooked and plentiful - eat as much as you dare but you'll come home a stone heavier if you do! Never had to queue more than a minute or two at the 'a la carte' counter and fish and meat cooked to your preferred taste. There are 2 sittings in the evening and you need to select this on arrival (and keep to your choice for the duration of your stay) but this seemed to work very well. We opted for 1st sitting, could go down anytime between 6 and 7pm and as long as we were out by 8pm, there was no rush or pressure from staff. The restaurant is large and things are spread out over a large area with fish in one corner and meat at the opposite end, with food stations for the 'help yourself' food at both places. Soup and cold meats/salads and puddings/sweets scattered around in between. For those with mobility problems, this might mean quite a lot of too-ing and fro-ing unless someone is with you to go and collect it for you. Tea and coffee at breakfast served in pots on your table - non of these hot drinks machines we've experienced in previous hotels.

For those with mobility issues (like my Dad) I would recommend emailing the hotel in advance and ask for a room in the first accommodation block nearest reception, preferably get a room near a lift too. We did this and were glad we did. My Dad walks okay without a stick but he still struggled to get from our room to the restaurant as it is quite a long way and involved 2 lifts. We ended up hiring a motorised scooter through reception for a week (about 90 euros) which was delivered to hotel for us. You can also get wheelchairs and frames and all manner of gadgets from the same company. The scooter meant my Dad wasn't exhausted by the time he got to the restaurant and meant I could leave him during the day and he could get to and from our room to the pool etc. any time he wanted. Puerto de Mogan is also flat enough to tour about on one of these scooters without any difficulty. We also used it to have a grand tour of the hotel and gardens which my Dad couldn't have managed on foot.

If you want a room with sun on the balcony you'll need to be on 4th or 5th floor (some 3rd floor ones okay) as the trees are so tall in places any sun or scenery is blocked. Many balconies do not have much outlook at all or may be in total shade so don't be afraid to email your request in advance - the hotel was most helpful to my request.

There was evening entertainment every night - some better than others and may not suit all tastes. Upstairs in the bar there was a violinist some evenings and a pianist too one night. They were okay but not the best. As background music the violin was fine but the pianist was a bit too loud - and I didn't rate his singing..... but others guests seemed to enjoy them so maybe just not my taste.

Can't add any more to the other reviews already posted. It really is by far the best hotel I have stayed in and I know my Dad was similarly impressed. It helped that we had some lovely weather with lots of sunshine and no wind (previous holidays in Tenerife and Lanzarote were cold in comparison) but maybe we were just lucky this time. Thank you to all staff at this fantastic hotel for looking after us so well. We hope to come back next year.

Room Tip: 4th or 5th floors to avoid the trees and request south facing if you want the sun on your balcony...

This review is well overdue, as the trip occurred last October, but it was so wonderful I'm going back in April. Everything about this hotel:- staff, room, food, wonderful village makes a perfect holiday. Yes, sunbeds get taken early in the day, but if you can't beat them, then join them! I was staying half board, & love that it was possible to swap dinner for lunch if you fancied a change of scenery for dinner, and eat by the port. The countdown is on to the return trip.

We have stayed here twice last year and hope to return later this year. Both times we stayed in a suite which was very comfortable and kept immaculate by Ana our little cleaning lady. We had a little garden with table and chairs on the patio along with 2 loungers to relax on. Nothing is too much bother for any staff member and they are all very friendly and helpful, especially the porter who wheeled our luggage to the suite explaining all the facilities available as we walked there.
They even have a little chapel in the grounds and each time we've been weddings have taken place. One of the benefits of staying in a suite you have your breakfast in the Blue Restaurant which is opposite the chapel and the quality and choice is excellent with great omelettes , made to order with your choice of fillings. The same restaurant is where you have lunch which is a buffet with lots of choice and a great selection of wines.
The only draw back in staying in the suites is the main restaurant for dinner is in the hotel and you have an uphill journey to get there, fine if you are young and fit but my wife had recently had a hip and knee replacement and found it a challenge some nights especially one night the rain was heavy and we were soaked through by the time we got there. There are plenty of seats to sit on, on the way up where you pass the kiddies playground, the aviary, fish pool, tennis courts, 10 pin bowling alley, plus the spa. Beautiful grounds with every kind of tree, shrubs and flowers.
There is also a gate behind the chapel you can use to take you to the Spar shop and all the shops and harbour within minutes, also the Friday market is only a 2 minute walk from there.
Don't hesitate to book with confidence knowing you will have a super time, they have a kiddies club, Pilates classes, water aerobics etc Monday till Saturday and you are treated to a fashion parade once a week where you then have a chance to buy the goods. Something for everyone, no matter what age you are.
Great selection each night for dinner, something for everyone's taste whether it be pasta, roasts, fish or salad etc. You get allocated a table the first night and that is where you sit for the duration of your vacation. Only draw back is you have to select the first or second sitting and cannot change.
If you want a quiet, relaxing holiday with lovely sunshine this is the place to come. Cannot wait to return.

We returned to this hotel hoping that everything would be as good as last time. I'm pleased to report that most aspects of our stay were even better this time. Following our first visit we had joined the 'Cordial Club', which offers a degree of preferential treatment to members and this may have helped us to get a room in the spot we had requested. The staff are first class and always aim to please. Our room was kept spotless throughout our stay, the reception staff are
very professional and always helpful, even when under pressure. There is always a wide range of good quality food and the waiters generally clear dirty plates etc from the tables quickly.
The restaurant staff are usually under pressure, but never appear to lose their temper and are always ready with a smile. Will we go back to Cordial. You bet! I'm already making a booking.

I don't often write reviews...but on this occasion I felt the need!
We visited gran canaria ..cordial playa de mogan holt last May. It was so good we have booked to visit again this April.
The hotel is fantastically located close to beach and restaurants...should you want to leave hotel.
It has two fantastic large pools...and a great kids club.
My hubby and I had one of the junior suites...it was immaculately clean and ideal for a family. Having the little garden made it very convenient with the children.
The staff could not of helped us more...they accommodated our needs and made us feel very valued as a guest.
It really isn't often that we return to a resort but we don't feel there is a better place for us.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a hassle free...relaxing family holiday.

Room Tip: A junior suite was great...plenty of room for a family.

Had a very enjoyable week in March, made better by exceptional weather.
Hotel is very nice and situated in a lovely part of Gran Canaria. Requested a top floor room but only offered a first floor room in block 2. Sun on the balcony for a couple of hours in the late afternoon.
Hotel staff very friendly and helpful, service in all bars and restaurants cannot be faulted.
Hotel food is of a high standard and plentiful choice but really, queing for a meal is for schools and prisons !!.
If a cruise ship can serve hundreds of people A La carte, why can't a modern hotel ?
Would return to the hotel, probably on a bed and breakfast basis as the surrounding area appears to have some nice places to eat.

Just returned from a stay at the mogan playa with my parents. We had a room problem on arriving at the hotel as we had requested a room that wasn't ground floor through Thomas Cook but unfortunately we were provided with ground floor rooms. We spent the next 2 hours looking at other rooms available and I eventually ended up with a room in block 2 and my parents were in block 4. I would recommend to anyone that is unhappy with their room to pursue this with the reception staff as it did pay off. Also personally I didn't like the rooms we viewed in block 8 so would advise anyone not to stay in that block, but it is personal preference. The staff are very friendly at the hotel and always happy to help. The food was very good quality although became rather repetitive and bland after a couple of days. The hotel itself had lovely gardens and was very relaxing. The entertainment wasn't bad, as what you would expect in hotels, but if you don't like Abba, avoid the Mamma Mia night, it really wasn't for us. Overall I would come back here, but there is definitely a number of things the hotel can do to improve the hotel especially for the price you pay. There is a lovely Italian restaurant along the strip of bars up near the end of the promenade. I would highly recommend the food and drink here and the owner was lovely, he really appreciated anyone's custom.

Room Tip: Go for a room high up, there are 5 floors to most blocks, you get the better views. I think blocks...
