“Great hotel, great holiday!!”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

Just back from 9 nights at the Cordial Mogan Playa. Our 2nd stay and we had a great time. The hotel is well set up for families. Excellent family rooms, two great pools and the food is superb. In fact the food had improved from last year when it had been average at times. The staff are very helpful and welcoming.

Only complaints would be that the activities for kids above the age of 4 or 5 are limited, especially sports activities. Other issue is the sun beds. Although the hotel policy is that sun beds can't be reserved this is not enforced. Not the hotel's fault that some people seem obsessed with getting up before dawn to get the exact spot they sit in everyday, but if they have a policy they should enforce it. We complained but nothing was done. Still only a small detail that would not put me off going back.

Room Tip: Request a family room. Adjoining rooms with a shared entrance. perfect.

My wife and I stayed in a suite and booked the full Pension Plus package, with flights,£4,000. Generally what everyone says is correct. However, I should point out that the walk from Suites to Dinner dining room, is a challenge if you are neither young nor fit and healthy. There were far too many noisy , misbehaved, unchecked children around the hotel, many being kept up far too late, and spoiling many peoples quiet attempts at dinner or a drink.
Breakfast and lunch for Suite residents is in the lower dining room by the pool, and on the occasions that we were lucky enough to dine with no noisy children around, it was quite idyllic. The contrast when taking dinner in the main dining room, even at the late sitting, was dramatic. I have never sat down for a meal in the main concourse of a major railway station, but I felt I had after 2 weeks of dinners.
The a la carte restaurant was excellent, and we were offered 2 free sittings for dinner. If all our dinners had been taken in similar circumstance it would have been an absolutely lovely holiday. I'm afraid that our experience is not likely to be repeated.
Incidentally, the last 2/3 days of our stay, signs went up to the effect that "towels would be removed from sun beds if there longer than 90 minutes without occupants. This had a negative effect in that most people then started putting out their towels 90 minutes before they intended to sun bathe, a situation which hadn't occurred before.
And finally, could the children's entertainers at the "evening disco" please try to control the piercing children's screams they seemed to encourage.

What can I say except we have just returned from our best holiday ever at the Cordial Mogan Playa. It was our first visit but will not be our last, it is an exceptional hotel in every way, a warm welcome as soon as you arrive at reception, the rooms, hotel, grounds, pools, retaurants all spotless, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the food is amazing no need to eat out so much choice everyday, but what makes it are the staff so pleasant and helpful they really cannot do enough to please and I don't know of many hotels where you would be given the directors direct numbers should you not be happy. Do not hesitate book now and roll on November here we come!!

This was our first visit to this fantastic hotel. There was every facility available and the staff could not have been more helpful. Room service was excellent. Hotel situated just a short walk from the Port area where the scenery was stunning. My husband and I are already looking at another holiday for next year.

We have just returned from yet another perfect week at this wonderful hotel in Puerto Mogan. The staff cannot be more helpful and friendly, this is our 6th visit and we have booked to go back again in September and we believe our standards to be very high!

The food continues to be excellent, with a good choice of food for all nationalities and preferences. The rooms are kept immaculately clean and the maids work hard to make your space clean and tidy on a daily basis.

Absolutely nothing is too much trouble for any member of staff at this hotel and the standards in all aspects remain consistenly high. That is why we will continue to holiday at this hotel on a regular basis. I can recommend the top pool restaurant for Tapas which is very very good. The Los Guayros restaurant is amazing and must be tried once at least.

We have experienced some very nice luxury holidays and this is certainly one of them. Enjoy!!!

This was our 3rd stay at the Cordial MoganPlaya. We stayed the first week in April, the weather was glorious. The staff at the hotel are really friendly and helpful and do their utmost to meet your wishes. The pools are lovely and warm and there are plenty of sunbeds. We have already booked to return for 2 weeks in September. The rooms are nicely decorated and furnished with a balcony with table and two chairs. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean and staff always have a smile. Puerto Mogan is a lovely little place with plenty of shops and restaurants and a charming harbour and beach.

Room Tip: High floor block 2 or 3 overlooking pool by reception.

Scanning various locations on Gran Canaria in different travel brochures, it soon became apparent that this hotel was a great favourite with a range of travel companies, and we were lucky to get a booking for when we had planned, and to find that emailing the hotel directly we were able to stay in one of our specified rooms. Recent reviews have covered almost everything,-a few additional things we found. The breakfasts were excellent, and for lovers of coffee and fresh bread particularly so. Initially, when a flask of coffee was placed on the table as we sat down, I feared the worst, but it really did stay hot for half an hour and there was more than enough for the refills. The marmalade, which was very good, was laid out with all the other jams, with dishes to take as much as you wanted. There was a lot of walking around, but arriving at 9.45am with breakfast finishing at 10.30, it was never too busy, and we always got a table immediately. Evening meals in the main restaurant were well organised with tables allotted on arrival, but the later slot starting at 8.15pm still gave time to enjoy the evening entertainment as well. The staff were all very helpful, but if there had been more to deal with the initial drinks order, then the overall coordination would have been better.
The attempt to prevent loungers from being prebooked, and abandoned for some of the day seems to work well, although overall, the poolside area was not extensive enough to accommodate all the loungers which were inevitably crammed together by both pools. In each case the "deep" pool became congested at various times in the day, and while one does not expect to do serious swimming in a hotel pool, the "shallow" pool which really was too shallow for swimming, was usually much quieter, although probably not so in school holidays. .Surprisingly, there were no changing areas beside the pool, and I suppose one could have changed in the rooms if there was a discreet way of getting to the pools, but the alternative were the pool toilets which is a bit unsavoury. We made the mistake of not exploring the very extensive (and attractive) grounds on arrival, and were still finding short cuts days later. As for the rooms, 6301-5 had been recommended, and we were in 6306 which had a nice outlook, but not over the pools. Our alternatives had been 7321-5, and they certainly seemed to have the best views over the more distant pool, and the harbour and sea itself, but I am not sure if they were suites,-certainly from what we saw, if we were able to book early enough, we would try for one of these.
