Return visit for xmas & new year 2013/14. Hotel stay didn't feel as exceptional as first visit. On arrival room was not ready as they had to hang curtains. ground floor room with view over pool very pleasant. Evening dining sometimes felt a bit chaotic, with not enough staff. Same with bar area - long wait for drinks to be served. The staff were as ever exceptional, very friendly and pleasant. Booked a table for new year at cost of Eur50, only to find it had been moved from original location so as to squeez in more tables! Perhaps the hotel was busier than previous xmas season with not enough staff to cope with demands. Spa very good and reasonably priced.

Just back from a week here, we had a good room in building 1 on third floor, the room was not cleaned on one day and the leg fell off one of the beds during our stay, the grounds were nice, the pools not cold but not warm, food average, buffet restaurant busy and noisy, staff pleasant and helpful. The evening entertainment was poor, the location central to Mogan village but the whole area is very quiet so nothing much to do except relax. We were a bit bored overall but comfortable place to stay. Would return for a quiet holiday.

Room Tip: I think the rooms on the 4th and 5th floors are better as the trees in front of the balconies are ve...

Just returned from 9 day stay in a standard room overlooking the spa (7204 on the second floor). We were offered a drink on check in which is a nice touch and bags were left at reception whilst we had dinner. Room very pleasant and a good size. The first night there was a fiesta in Mogan village and buses ran up and down the Boulevard in view of our room all night. But after that it was a really quiet room. Beds a little on the firm side but our room was cleaned really well every day. Balcony got the sun am and evening which was brilliant as prefer cool middle of day when sun is most fierce. Room had a balcony and a mini bar which was great to chill drinks, etc. For a 10 euro deposit (refundable at end of holiday) we borrowed a kettle for our room. Its a sham the safe rental was so expensive as felt a bit penny pinching at such a quality resort. Pools were lovely, great temperature. The top pool was the quieter one but the lower one had the child splash pool and more animation activities. The hotel foyer and grounds were amazing. Make time to:
- wander around all the hotel courtyards as each one is stunningly different. Block one has an amazing waterfall (only seemed to be on am but worth visiting) Block 4 has a solarium on top floor (floor 5) and brilliant views of the sea.
- visit the foyer at different times of day as the sun shines through the stained glass roof at different angles throughout the day lighting up different parts of the foyer, making the most amazing colour show on the walkway and indoor waterfalls.
- Go through the first floor foyer waterfall walkway to find the information room which has loads of details of things to do.(easily missed)
- Walk round the Mocan (archeological site) on site near the spa and fins out some of the history of the area.
- Stop and look at the memorials to the two victims of the 2011 hotel explosion (to the left of the chapel). An awful accident that happened when the gas tank was being refilled but touching memorial
- find all the exits out of the resort (some are more hidden than others)
-Walk round the harbour and paddle in the sea.
- try an ice cream from the gelateria by the beach (artisan icecream) the cherry and the chocolate are amazing
- learn a few words of Spanish, although most people speak English it is appreciated
- and most importantly relax
All the staff are genuinely friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs. Anyone you pass will say hello to you.
My husband said the food was excellent but as a vegetarian I found it tricky to work out what to eat. What I had was generally good but cooked vegetables where often lacking but there were plenty of salads. The soups mostly seem to be made with meat stock and often the labels on the dishes were wrong. We found out on the last night that if you have dietary requirements speak to the maitre d' who will advise on what can and can't be eaten. However clearer labeling would have saved some near misses with meat. Table service for drinks and clearing was fast and efficient. A little too efficient on a couple of nights when we had our tables cleared whilst we were getting out puddings but fortunately we saw the funny side of it as did our waiters. Getting a set table for the entire stay evening meal was nice and saved a bit of the bun fight. I know some people don't like the evening meal timings but in the Canaries apparently few people eat before 8:00/8:30. And we found the later sitting worked well for us.
Night entertainment - the lion king dancers where really good but other than that it was mediocre at best.
On the last day our bags were locked in the baggage room and we had access to the courtesy rooms for showering and changing before we left. These rooms are the best courtesy rooms ever, they have showers, towels, soap and four sleeping rooms in case you have a late flight. Really brilliant and you just turn up and use the facilities as you wish
All in all a brilliant holiday. Not perfect but then were is. The grounds are immaculate and the staff really make this place an enjoyable place to stay. They are all willing to go the extra mile and in this day and age how often can you say that
Thank you

Just returned from a weeks break at the Mogan Playa. The hotel is lovely, very friendly, very clean and the food was good and the gardens are well looked after.Unfortunately our room 1904 was in a good position but we had the builders working in the room next door and they started at 9am during the week, one afternoon we returned at 3pm to the sound of drilling,so decided to sit by the pool instead, the other problem we had the day before leaving was unfortunately with cockroches we found three in our room, we also returned that day to an unsual smell which we presumed the cleaners were aware of them,so had sprayed the doors. We understand in a hot country it's hard to control theses little pests but I just can't stand them.

We pondered for ages trying to find a new place to holiday, even though we have been to Gran Canaria years ago we had not been to Puerto Mogan. We read the reviews, all 5 star and decided to give it a go. We booked through Jet2 so it was a full package, we arrived about 1130 pm the staff were welcoming, gave us a champagne welcome drink which tasted good and offered us a cold buffet snack as it was late, never had that before. We were guided to our room, exactly what we asked for, high, pool view, the room was good quality a few gripes, no fridge available you have to request the mini bar fridge to be unlocked ? no iron or board, no coffee/tea facilities ? maybe this is why its 4 star ? apart from that everything was good, housekeeping everyday if you wanted it. Back to the hotel main building, at first sight when you arrive it is gob-smacking, the closest decor like the extravagance of Vegas we have seen outside of Vegas, a jungle - atrium theme very nice.
The whole complex is massive well presented and kept, even has its own chapel ? a few bars, pools, eateries, a lot to see. can't dwell too much but impressive.
The main restaurant is well run by the ever present and professional managers, the staff as ever are courteous and attentive, the food choice is huge well presented and tasty self service eat as much as you like, half board or full board, two sittings for dinner.
The main bar area is like a mini club / theater with all the seating and lights with dance floor, every night it was full for the acts, waiter staff doing their best to keep up with the busy service, the cocktails are very popular. Last orders were about 1 am but that was okay, they need a DJ to keep the guests in the bar after the acts have finished, a lot of them disappear. THE hotel / complex is most impressive, enough for us to want a return visit fairly soon. The most impressive and professional staff at all levels.
The town itself has a lot to offer is very beautiful, very photogenic there is enough to keep you occupied for a week, many bars/restaurants/shops, marina, beach, boat trips, local cheap buses, taxis, most areas are pedestrianized, and to cap it all off its cheap.

second visit to this hotel. Beautiful hotel, beautiful town. staff so helpful, the place is spotlessly clean. Only slight complaint is the restaurant, buffet style, its not a very relaxing way to have a meal however I don't know how else dinner could be served to so many guests so I guess its a small price to pay for a wonderful holiday

We stayed at the Mogan Playa just over a week ago and it was our forth visit to the hotel.
I must say that this hotel is amazing and every time we've been to stay it has been pleasant.
The staff are all very friendly and will do there upmost to do everything you ask.
We are a family of 5 with 3 children under the age of 8 and they are all well catered for from the daytime around the pool area, kids club to the mini disco at the evening.
Also we find this hotel to be reasonable on drink prices as we charge all the drinks to the room and at the end of our stay we pick up the bill, which can sometimes be a nail biter but on our previous stays certainly isn't. (10% discount card).

We have booked for New Year again as we went last year & really enjoyed it as the weather was in the 70s everyday which added to our great stay once again at the Mogan Playa.
