“Cant wait to return”
Reviewed 16 April 2011

We stayed in a Corner Suite and found everything to be fantastic - the staff were all helpful and friendly. The free wifi worked great even downstairs in the shops - room was well laid out and the bed was the most comfortable bed we had on our trip. The view of the Venetian out of the glass walls of the suite was impressive and it only got better at night. As part of our package we saw the House of Dancing Water and Dragon Treasure Shows - both were impressive. We ate an excellent dinner at Treasure Palace in the COD complex and although the restaurant was busy the staff were very attentive. Breakfast was a buffet style at the R Bar and once again couldnt fault it. Our only complaint is we only got to stay one night on this trip but we will return!!

Where should I start.... first check in tookover half an hour and had to wait for so long because only 2 counters were open with many staff running around doing who knows what...

Then checke into a corner suite and found hair and dust all over the ground, the room has not been cleaned properly and it was so obvious! Had to call house keeping up to clean it up again (but still found rubbush behind the TV that has not been picked up and we gave up and cleaned the room ourselves) - how bad was it!?

The decor seemed on the cheap side and sofa/chair were not comfortable to sit on. Bed was not comfortable and toilet was like a smoke room that stank of smoke and had no vent out facilities.

Apart from being one of the 3 hotels in COD, I did not see any good points about this hotel at all. OK, the decor in reception and around was stylish and funky, however as a guest staying there, I did not find comfort home away from home and simply did not enjoy my stay there at all. Grand Hyatt and Crown were better by MILES.

Had one night here and loved it. i know there is a lot to choose from in Macau but the Hard Rock is clean and the rooms are spot on. Gambling facilities are obviously good and the staff are typically very very helpful. Not much else to add! if you are in Macau it is a good place to stay. Good view onto the the Venetian!

We booked the Hard Rock as part of a package, visiting Macau to see the House of Dancing Water show at the City of Dreams. It's very convenient - a shuttle bus will take you from the Cotai ferry terminal to the hotel in less than 10 minutes, and the theatre is a short walk through the City of Dreams boulevard, past numerous shops selling expensive branded goods.

Staff are very friendly, and the whole hotel goes for a very trendy vibe - non stop rock music playing throughout the central lobby areas, unlike the sepulchral hush you find in some 4 and 5 star hotels. This can occasionally be a curse as well as a blessing - at two a.m. on the 16th floor I could still hear the thud thud thud of music from below, which either means terrible sound proofing or somebody was going death at ground floor.

Because they had no remaining king-size bedrooms on a non-smoking floor, we got upgraded to a suite, which was very nice indeed; the only oddity being that the sink isn't in the same room as the toilet, but in the wall facing the bedroom. Maybe that's how rockstars live. The shower/bath was very good - a combination of a rainforest shower, a handheld nozzle and a couple of waist-high jets - although since there's not much of a lip around the door, it would be easy to flood the room if you weren't careful.

The restaurants were a bit lacking, especially if you're a vegetarian (hmm, could it really be that the one thing that people like to eat in all the world is a margharita pizza?) and although there are several restaurants, some are in the casino and therefore you'll end up stinking of cigarette smoke sooner or later.

The suite, though, was very nice, although it was disconcerting to have two enormous widescreen televisions (perhaps good if my partner and I had a big row and wanted to ignore each other by watching different television channels while skulking in our rooms). Bed possibly had too many pillows, if that is possible, but no other complaints there.

The swimming pool is heated, so even on a chilly night in January it's still comfortable for a dip. One surreal touch is the beach volleyball court, constructed on the third floor. Adding to this strangeness is the half-built casino complex over the road, which is currently just a foreboding building site. If you like unfinished concrete constructions, that'll be fine, otherwise it will probably be finished at some point (I won't try to guess when, because the boom-bust-boom cycle in Macau makes casinos sprout like mushrooms or stand forlorn, unfinished and unloved for years).

What didn't I like: free wifi wouldn't work for me. (Like I should be checking my internet connection on holiday.) I also wouldn't recommend the Yo! Noodle restaurant in the Hard Rock casino - I encountered a rather foul nasi goreng, studded with prawns, even after I'd asked for something vegetarian.

I would love to stay at Hard Rock Hotel if I go to Macau again. They provide free wifi for their customers and they have the ipod / iphone docking system in the rooms as well. They even provide fruits in the hotel room for their customers. True that the rooms were only available from 3pm onwards, but if you stayed in Venetian Macau, it's the same as well. So just leave your luggage with the concierge, go out for some shopping or some sightseeing, then come back later to collect your keys to the room. That's what i did when i arrived at Hard Rock Hotel at 11.30am.
On top of that, I prefer Hard Rock Hotel is because it doesn't stink of smoke or cigarettes, unlike my stay at Venetian, everywhere reeked of the cigarette smell. I almost couldn't breathe.
Breakfast at the R Bar is also way better than the one I had at Venetian.
Also, the House of Dancing Water performance is truly great, if you have the chance, why not purchase those hotel packages that come with the tickets for the show. It's very worthwhile.

Arrived midday and was told that room wouldn't be available until 3pm. Strange that all rooms suddenly become available at 3!. Came back at 3 and had to queue for room. Note that check out is early at 11am.

Nice room, but the layout just doesn't make sense. Huge space one side of the bed with no furniture, whilst the other side of the bed seems to sit right outside the toilet. Bathroom is small, and needed a good clean as mould was visible around the bath. In my opinion, elderly or less agile people would struggle to get in and out of the bath due to its design, and the floor of the actual bath is slippery. The toilet is a separate tiny plain room, with no wash basin. So not good if the bathroom is occupied, and also for reasons known best by the designer, the bath & toilet share the same light switch, so take care!

Staff were zealously friendly. Breakfast was good, though watch out for back ache as the tables are very very low.

Note: take care to specify a non-smoking room if this is your preference, as you won't be asked automatically.
