“A Nice and Still Functioning Church”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2013

As the previous reviewer already very well summed up, this particular church is cool but not quite as impressive church when compared to St. Domingo's church.
It's located right in a little square with a neat fountain over the commonplace cobble stone roads with nice barrels of flowers strewn along the sides of the road.
The church is still in working condition regular services are held. (When I was in there around 6pm, I even heard prayers being executed over a public address system in Portuguese!
The artwork on some of the walls was cool and even the pastor's house right beside the church was very very nice looking.
Since the previous reviewer took most of my would be thunder for my own concise review, just take a look at what they wrote in aspect to finding this particular church. It's not too hard to find though from Senado Square.

“Cathedral is an important church located near Senado Square”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2012

Cathedral is located not far off of Senado Square and can be found by walking up Travessa de Sao Domingos or Travessa da Se, which both veer hard right when you are at St. Dominic's Church. Cathedral is often confused with the Ruins of St. Paul which is located further away from Senado Square.

The present building, known as Cathedral, sits on the location of several past churches and dedicated to to the Virgin Mary in 1622. The Cathedral is one of the most important churches in Macau, yet is quite conservatively decorated on both the inside out outside, a bit similar to St. Anthony's Church, found on Cameos Square further north in Macau. While unpretentious, it does lack a beautifully decorative facade commonly found with churches in Macau like the famous and nearby St. Dominic's church as well as other World Heritage members like St. Augustine's, St. Lawrence's and the Seminary Churches.

Just outside Cathedral, there is a tiny square known as Cathedral Square, featuring a small fountain and center cross and some nice tiled murals on the back side of the square. Also, back up Travessa da Se there is a very nice attraction called the Lou Kau Mansion that can be quickly visited as well.

Overall, this important church makes a less memorable church visit, particularly compared to nearby St. Dominic's Church and the Ruins of St. Paul. However, it is located less than a two-minute walk from the collection of other attractions around Senado Square so you might as well stop by to have a look.

Hint: While supposedly open every day 7.30am to 6.30pm we have found Cathedral closed on National holidays and during early mornings before 9am from time to time.
