“Good for its location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2014 via mobile

We travelled from Hong Kong to Macau and decided to stay over for a night to explore Macau's night view - along Nam Van Lake and at Cotai strip. With a moderate budget, we chose Hotel Sintra for its nice location, as it is very near to Nam Van Lake and it is within walking distance to bigger and well-known hotels (like Emperor Hotel, Lisboa Hotel, Grand Lisboa Hotel, Wynn's, and even MGM) - which means we can always hop on any of the shuttle bus services provided by these big hotels to travel to and from Cotai Strip. (Although Hotel Sintra is one of the stop for shuttle services provided by City of Dream but the queue is always long.)
We reached the hotel at 2 pm hoping that we can check in early, but the staff told us to come back at 3 pm as the room is not ready. But when we came back at 3 pm, the staff told us that the room is still not ready, but they managed to change another room for us after my boyfriend showed him a dissatisfied face :P It costs us a little wait though.
As for the room itself, nothing special to be excited about: spacious, clean, well-equipped, and most importantly free wifi! If not the minor glitch that we encountered upon checking in, it would have earned itself another star.

Hotel staffs were polite, helpful and friendly. The room was clean and equiped with sufficient facilities.
Location of the hotel is very convenient that I can walk to other places, such as St Paul's Ruins in just 10-15 minutes. There is a shopping mall - Yaohan nearby, I walked there for shopping and having meals in no time. There is a bus stand in front of the hotel, which is very convenient if want to go to farther places by bus/cab.
The breakfast was nice, variety of choices and delicious.
Generally I feel very satisfactory with this hotel.

Location is excellent as it's less than 10 minutes walk to Senado Square and then another 5-10 minutes walk to Ruins of St. Paul's and Macau Museum. Booked 2 rooms about 3 months earlier and got a rather good deal through Hotelclub. Other than the mosquito that they took care of, the hotel and rooms were well within our expectations for the money we paid so it's value for money overall.

We stayed here for 5 days during our family vacation to visit family and friends in Macau. Highly recommend this hotel for those who are looking for a central location to everything (minutes of walking to Grand Lisboa, Casino Lisboa, and Wynn). The room we had was spacious which was really nice for a family of 3 traveling together. The beds are larger than you could expect coming from a Hong Kong hotel stay. The accommodations we asked for non-smoking floor which was great. The bathroom was in good condition and the included toiletries was very convenient. I particularly appreciated the sewing kit, as I had a button that needed to be sewn on tighter right before a main event! The house slippers was a added touch of comfiness and the beds were lined with decorative runners. This hotel is obviously dated as it's been around a long time, but it is in great condition. Wished the elevators were faster and could hold more people at once, but as it's not a huge hotel, it manages alright. If there were a future upgrade to this hotel, I'd like to see wider and larger compacity elevators.

Our view from our room was nothing impressive, but you really don't come to Macau for the view from Hotel Sintra's room...go out and explore the city for the best views. We didn't mind, but for others, it might be good to note that this is an older hotel so there have been many high rises that has been built since the conception of this hotel therefore, most of the views are of surrounding (taller) buildings. Sleep quality really depends on what's going on in the city. Weekends = terrible sleep conditions as there are constantly sirens and noises from the outside filtering in. Weekdays it's not too bad.

If you stay here, or even if you don't, you must try out the Dim Sum on Level 1. The dining room is connected with a buffet area, but we experienced the Dim Sum here twice and we loved it both times. It takes a while to get the dishes out, but its totally worth it.

Take advantage of the City of Dreams free bus that is right in front of Hotel Sintra if you want to go and explore other areas of Coloane. Venetian, Sands, Galaxy, Four Seasons, City of Dreams, and Hard Rock are all over in Coloane. Definitely worth a visit.

A note of caution, if you are from a foreign country staying here, do NOT let the front desk tell you to charge your credit card for the stay. We did, and we regretfully have to pay for double transaction fees because we are American and our bank charged us as did the hotel, despite the hotel saying they don't charge you---they do when they convert the daily currency exchange into your native country's currency exchange vs. Macau's currency! Don't be fooled like us!! It's useless to go back and talk to them because once your credit card is run, it's a done deal!

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking floor if you have children or elderly

We have been to Macau many times and decided to try this hotel due to its good location opposite New Yaohan department store and closeness to the Lisboa, Grand Lisboa and MGM casinos. In short, it is very good for the price. The rooms are decent and the standard of the food is fine. If you are staying in Macau you can afford to stay longer here and you will not be disappointed at all. A good tip is to try the food court on the top floor of New Yaohan.

Good location and easy to move to any tourist attraction area. A bit tough for muslim traveller to find Halal foods. 2 nites max should be Ok to cover the whole island. They speak Cantonese, try to learn some. Taxi from Airport to the hotel at nite will cost you around MOP120 (metered + surcharge)

Slightly dated hotel that is midway between the casinos and historic sites. The hotel does have not a casino which appealed to us. Excellent breakfast buffet that had western & Chinese options and was included in our room rate. Free airport shuttle but a taxi cost less than $50HK so why bother. We stayed in Macau for 2 days which allowed us to see the historic sights, shop and check out the smokey casinos.
