With all the Vegas style casino hotels in Macau we were looking for something more old world elegant without the overwhelming feel of the large Vegas style hotels. The Royal was the perfect choice. Beautifully appointed very European in flavor. The location was perfect for walking through the city. Shuttles are available to airport and casino hotels. The staff is helpful and accommodating. I would highly reccomend this hotel if you want to feel like you stayed in Macau and not Las Vegas.

Simple and cozy setting upon entering the hotel but it was quite crowded most of the time. My experience at the check-in wasn't very good as they could only let me checked into my room around 3pm, that's bad service!. The buffet breakfast was just average but the area has free WiFi.
Overall, this is a decently priced hotel with clean rooms at a quite good location (central but not at the busy or noisy part of the city).

A group of us (29 paxs) stayed in this hotel over a weekend in July. Here are my personal views on Hotel Royal:

- hotel checkin was fast and rooms are well maintained.
- hotel location is within walking distance to shopping districts (St Paul's Ruins).
- hotel provides free wi-fi in lobby and shuttle services to major casinos.
- hotel breakfast is good with a wide selections of food (international standard).
- 7-11 store and eating outlets are just next to hotel.

We had a little 'crisis', and the hotel front staff manage to rectify acceptably well.

we stayed at the hotel for a macau overnight stopover. it is in the middle of the city, away from the hotel strip (wynn, mgm, star, etc). it is nearby senado square and st. paul ruins that is why we chose the hotel. we had made online reservation a month before our trip and specifically requestedto check in early as we will arrive to macau at 7am. it was actually understandable if we will not be able to check in early but at least around 1pm-2pm as it is the check in time. we had not wasted time and instead of waiting for a room, we went to the places we want to see and had lunch. we went back to the hotel at 3pm and still, room is not ready. we waited until 4pm. nothing was given to compensate the late check in, not even an apology. anyway, deluxe room was big. bed was really big. bath tub area looks really old though. checked out the pool at the rooftop, a few old chinese people swimming. fitness center also at the rooftop - no one is using it.

Casinos aren' t really my thing, so the location of this hotel was great for my needs. It takes about 10-15 minutes to amble down to the old town where most of the portuguese heritage can be found. You can find scores of restaurants in the same area, especially aroung the Lago do Senado (Square of the Senate). This area of Macau is easy walking territory, although plan well when you want to cross roads, and use the overpasses as there is a lot of traffic around.

Arrived by ferry direct from hong Kong airport, looked for a shuttle bus to the hotel, failed miserably to find it, and gave up pretty quickly as I had just flown 20 hours and the outisde temperature was over 30 degrees celcius. It may be an idea to check with the hotel in advance where the bus stops at the dockside (it is a very busy area with hundreds of busses going in all directions), and when. I booked a premier package which included breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails in the evening. Room was pretty standard - comfortable and clean, well maintained, included all the facilities you need when staying in a hotel. Breakfast was in the lobby lounge; there was a decent enough selection, but very few people there, and the selection didn't vary at all during my stay there. Cocktail hour - good selection of small snacks, and the house wines (portuguese) were good. Staff are great; not everyone understands english to a high level, but then my chinese is more or less non existant, so who's at fault here? My luggage was lost somewhere between Oslo and Hong Kong on the flight out, and one member of staff insisted on ringing to Hong Kong airport on my behalf to keep tabs on the situation. That was greatly appreciated; saved me having to ring them several times a day.

This is a perfect choice for those wanting to stay away from the casino scene, but who want to be in the middle of the historical part of town, near restuarants, and near shopping. I hope Macao doesn't drown in the casino scene, but manages to retain it's unique portuguese-chinese flavour.

Macau is a small place and thrives on tourism / casino. All cab drivers and bus drivers know all hotels, therefore locating this hotel was not a problem at all, though it is in the narrow lanes of Macau. The hotel is listed as 5 star, however the appearance from the outside or in the lobby does not give the impression of it being a 5 star. When you compare the appearance of this hotel with other glitzy hotels in Macau, the comparison in appearance becomes quite stark. The amenities though in the hotel are very good, no complaints. The room was luxurious, with all facilities like mini-refrigerator, coffee maker etc. The bathroom was very clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable - we were two adults and 1 child, we could easily snuggle into the King Sized bed. The only problem was that the location was slightly away from all the glitz and glory that Macau is famous for. However, the bus facility from the hotel every 30 minutes takes you to the Macau centre and Macau Ferrry Terminal or you could even catch a cab. Though language is a problem in Macau, the hotel had no problem. The person at the Concierge, Alex, was very helpful and courteous. The breakfast buffet was a bit of a problem for us as we are vegetarians, but on request the chef tossed up vegetarian stuff for us, which ofcourse was not Indian, but palatable. Great place and people to stay in Haridwar. Like all hotels in Macau, this hotel also has a Casino, though we did not use it !!

Room Tip: Write to hotel before you arrive with your special request.

We went there for a holiday and booked this hotel because of reasonable price with good location. It was really good but most of the other hotels in macau are so beautiful, big and unique. That's one of the best part about macau. It is to stay in those wonderful hotels. So don't miss the chance when you're in Macau!
