We were upgraded to the Executive Floor and the room is big and spacious for three of us. We also had free Wi-Fi access in our rooms. The room is clean, and we were pleasantly surprised to find a rain shower in the bathroom. A pity there was no bath-tub, a good soak after a tiring day in the casino would be just great.

Don't bother about getting an extra bed, the mattress is hard as a rock.

The best part about this hotel was its very friendly staff. I could speak some Cantonese, so communicating with the concierge wasn't an issue. They gave very good walking directions to St Paul's ruins and from St Paul's, you can navigate very easily to Senado Square. The hotel's shuttle bus was always prompt and brought us to most of the major casinos. A famous dessert shop Yee Shun was just a 5 minute walk away.

The only downside of this hotel is that it is not located within the central area of Macau. We took taxis to most of our destinations.

All in all, if you are looking for a simple, quiet and comfortable hotel, this is it.

After Extensive research I had chosen this hotel for my stay for two nights at Macau. Booked it thru Macau.com We were in Room no. 1237. Rooms are nice and spacious but the view was not great ( atleast not from our room). I would advise that one should ask for a higher floor room if possible. If you are on a lower floor and facing the side which I was facing, then its at level with the apartment building next door our room was at the terrace level of that building. we could see the sea in one corner of the window and the light house was also visible. When we were staying there, the hotel seemed to be fully occupied... so i guess the staff was a bit stretched with work. There was no turn down service given in the room on either of the days. We had a lunch at the catalpa garden restaurant.. it was strictly ok. There are good eating places close by. Tried the Kruatheque Thai restaurant down the road from the hotel, it is very good. The hotel is located in a residential neighbourhood, with the local indoor sports complex right in front. Senado square and St Paul's Ruins are just about 10-15 mins walk. No need to take the Taxi. The best way to go to any tourist destination in Macau, would be to take the hotel coach, either to that place directly or go to the ferry wharf and catch a bus for any of the hotel from there. All Free. Last coach leaving from the ferry wharf is at 2155 hrs. Once you arrive at the ferry wharf by boat, then exit on the same side of the road and wait at the coach pickup point, Hotel Royal's coach does not have a parking bay but it comes in 10-15 mins in the second lane. The concierge at the hotel is very helpful and they arrange for tickets to the Macau Tower for 70 HKD ( you get it for 100 HKD at the tower!!!). There is a 7-11 next to the hotel for small knick knacks.

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel in June (based on feedback on TA). We booked directly with the hotel online & chose their "Free & Easy Package Deluxe Room". On arrival we were offered a free upgrade to the Premier Suite located L15-17, which was very nice. One of the benefits of the Premier suite is complimentary snacks/drinks and afternoon tea at the lobby lounge. Buffet breakfast is at Vasco da Gama restaurant - food was mediocre. Premier Suite guests have the option of taking breakfast at the lobby lounge - same food.

Our room was spacious, clean and modern. Hotel staff were friendly and very helpful especially the Concierge who would go that extra mile for their guests. The hotel offers free shuttle service to the ferry terminal and various casinos. Location of the hotel is great - in the old part of Macau and away from the major casinos and near to many beautifully preserved old buildings in the area. The hotel is walking distance to St Paul ruin, Senate Square etc. We enjoyed our stay at the Royal.

We stayed at the Royal for one night on a recent trip to Macau. Overall we were impressed with our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and the facilities were good.

We were a little disapointed with the size of the room (which we saw the next morning was very small compared to others on the same floor). The bed was also very hard in true Chinese fashion which made sleep quite difficult. The breakfast was nothing to write home about.

One other thing to note is that there is a large construction site opposite the hotel. In fairness they don't seem to work too early or too late, but if you plan on spending any time in the room during the day you may find it very noisy!

However if you want to get away from the casino hotels and stay somewhere nice in the historic centre of Macau you could do far worse than the Royal.

The staff were wonderful, so helpful and remembered who you were and what you wanted to drink and eat. We stayed for 3 nights and got an upgrade when checking in, a fantastic room on the 16th floor. The breakfast was ordinary, overcooked bacon and hash browns, nice juice and strong coffee, overall worthwhile and maybe overcooked as we were always late for breakfast! The lobby had an unusual smell, perhaps the diesel fumes from busses parked outside or from the renovations. Afternoon tea and free beer were a good add on although the beer was a local brew and not flash. Location was away from the casinos in an older part of the city, an easy walk to the town square and nice outlook over the city. Taxis are cheap and shuttle busses between casinos were easy to use, if you want to see Macau and not just gamble this is a great place, better than we could imagine for the money. Lots of bus tours the lobby was like grand central station at times but quiet rooms and very well appointed. Lovely indoor pool. Only gripe, like most asian hotels the bed was a little hard, king sized though with nice linen.

This hotel was recommended to us by a colleague of mine in office. Typically 4 star and 5 star hotels in Macau are cheaper compared to Hongkong, beijing etc. Royal Hotel Macau was no different. We totally enjoyed our stay here. The breakfast was nice and filling. In late afternoon we awere allowed to have a snack buffett. It consisited of various breads, drinks ,beer etc. All this was included in the room price.

The hotel staff was super friendly. They carried our luggage to the room. There was a shuttle service to the ferry terminal as well as shuttle to Venetian. We made use of both. Check timings at reception.

We will definitely stay here again on our next visit

We stayed at the Hotel Royal for two nights.

We caught the free guest shuttle from the ferry terminal. Be warned that the Hotel Royal does not have a specific bus stop for its shuttle, so you need to keep your eyes open and watch where it pulls up. It’s a good idea to check the timetable on the website so you know when to expect it. Our shuttle was right on schedule. The guest shuttle also serves most of the main casinos.

The hotel is much nicer inside than it appears from the outside.

We were lucky enough to receive a complimentary upgrade to a Premier room. The room was not that large, but it was very comfortable with a queen-size bed, classy furnishings and a large flatscreen TV with a good selection of English-language channels. There were tea & coffee making facilities in the room, and complimentary bottles of water.

The hotel is a fair distance from the casinos, so if gambling is the main reason for your visit, the location might not be right for you. But if you wish to escape the casinos while being no more than a long walk (or a short cab ride) from them, this property is well worth consideration.

There are not many amenities in the immediate vicinity of the hotel (aside from a 7 Eleven across the street), but the bus stop to destinations around Macau is only about 4 minutes walk from the hotel. For those happy to walk around, the Ruínas de São Paulo was about a 30 minute stroll away.

I would happily stay at this hotel again.
