“Senados Square”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2013

It is a well-preserved structure. It is jampacked with people, whether strolling, shopping, eating, or taking pictures. Small place but important, memorable structures were here. Not to forget to visit the Catholic Church when visiting this attraction.

“Fantastic Visual Tapestry”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

Whilst the Cotai Strip is the glitz and new Las Vegas, traditional Macau is found here amongst the old world Portugese establishments. The cobblestone patterns lining the streets amidst the fabulous architecture is a wonderful experience of colour and a fantastic visual tapestry. The modern high rise Grand Lisboa dwarfs everything but ideally blends into the background and is very interresting at different angles. Lots of vendors selling pork meat in the narrow side streets and the eminating wafts add to the atmosphere. The ruins of St Paul are nearby as are many other churches. Climb to the top of Monte Forte and take in the great view. Even during the week Macau is busy so best to visit the history sights to beat the crowds and heat before being tempted by the Casinos.

“work of art!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2013

portugal and a touch of europe here and there is how i felt when coming to senado and ruins of st.paul. Lovely pictures can be taken here. but the crowd was too much.
getting here, was easy, make your way and walk from lisboa. ask for directions follow the "small signs" on the streets
dont forget to take macau maps at the tourism office at senado.
money changer, if needed is also here. Mc D is right at the entrance...if your hungry, but along the road, there are alot of free sample foods too. :)
Enjoy the stroll!

“Good place to while some time away”

Interesting architecture, plenty of food -albeit dwindling local options, and rest areas to people-watch. A place to just sit around and spend a cool afternoon.

The whole area has been quite nicely manicured and the old buildings do shine. The newer constructions definitely bring the whole thing down a bit and the crowds are unbearable if you are there at the weekend. If you are looking for something a bit different, then it is a nice way to spend a couple of hours, but don't expect a tranquil colonial idyll. Worth seeing, but don't expect too much.
