“No Casino but Valuable .Lesser Cosmopolitan ,More Chinese”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

Hotel Metropark is a very nice 4 star hotel, close to Macau city center. The hotel itself is a cozy property thats Chinese at its core. It was expensive but we booked from Hongkongmacautours.com directly which offer good rates for most Hkng/Macau hotels sightseeing & stay packages .It saved us some money which was to be burnt later in Casinos :P

It's is in a unique, kind of cool authentic area of a old chinatown, at night its kind of old school cool. Its a short walk to the main historic areas, the Grand Lisboa, or a the Wynn/MGM.
My room was fine - it was large, comfortable and clean (but rather dated) and was absolutely fine for the 2 nights we stayed.

Some things to note-
1. There are smoking/Non-smoking floors, so you need to mention it explicitly while booking a room.
2. No casino here, which is why a lot of families stay there.Communication for me, as one who spoke only
3. There is free internet in lobby with 5 MACs.
4. If you are an outsider, McDonalds is at a 10minutes walk towards Casino Lisboa.
The gym/pool looked fine, they have a sauna too. The staff is attentive aims to impress. The breakfast is fantastic! we stayed for 2 nights but we had a different set of buffet breakfast each day unlike other hotels that serves the same breakfast everyday.

English, was difficult - except at the check-in counters where everyone spoke excellent English. The problem arose only in talking to the room-service, which was not so good.

Macau is very small, one more tip i would offer is just study the maps and the places you would like to visit. All in all, if you're looking for a place to hv fun and wouldn't mind hard beds, Metropark would be the best value for your money.

This is an older hotel that has been remodeled. Location is convenient to the main tourist destinations on peninsular Macau.

Had major issues with internet. There is no wireless anywhere in the hotel. I knew that in advance and didn't think it would be a deal breaker since I can use an ethernet cable if necessary. But to my surprise, my room also had no ethernet port.

I called the desk and the conversation was disturbing.

"I can't find the internet in my room."
"Room number please."
"1234."
"Oh, that room doesn't have internet, but you can use one of the machines in the lobby."
"Do some other rooms have internet? I can use ethernet. It doesn't have to be wi-fi."
"Sorry. Use the machines in the lobby."

I went to the desk to try to sort this out face to face and a manager eventually gave me a different room which did have a wall port for wired internet. Using it requires purchase of a password card for 120 MOP per 24 hours. That's not unusual in the older downtown hotels. Perhaps the failure of my first attempt at a solution was a language problem, but I don't think so.

The moral is to inquire about internet when you are checking in if it matters to you.

Otherwise, the hotel was OK; nothing less and nothing more. I was here on a weekend and paid about 1,000 HKD per night. Furnishings were old, but adequately maintained. To their credit, I did get a non-smoking room when I asked for one. Breakfast was adequate and reasonably priced.

Tried to book a massage in the spa, but they had no availability until much later. That was not a difficult issue to solve, since there are so many other spas and saunas nearby.

View from my window was a neighboring high rise building. Macau peninsula is very densely populated, so this is not unusual and isn't something the hotel can control. If view is an important part of your "hotel experience" you can do better on the Cotai Strip, as well as out on Taipa or Coloane.

One other aspect of this being an elderly property is that there is no temperature control on the A/C in the room. You can make the fan go faster or slower, but you can't make the air cooler or warmer.

This establishment is in about the same class as Beverly Plaza and the old Holiday Inn. Would I stay here again? Probably not unless the rate were steeply discounted.

It's a little bit out of the centre, but only a 10 minute walk away to Casino Lisboa, Grand Lisboa etc. The hotel is old and showing its age, but is a decent option when rooms are discounted. Breakfast was just ok, and the staff weren't overly friendly, but it was ok. The major disappointment was no wifi anywhere in the hotel - free internet computers in the lobby just aren't quite the same!!

Situated in the middle of the city the hotel is good for its food and facilities. A very cooperative staff ready to help in all respect. Almost all Casino;s are nearby and supermarket is at arms length. Hotel Transport is reasonably priced and if one is planning to go to Venetian its free.
Hotel breakfast is excellent and value for money ie about HK$ 80 pp.
Hotel rooms are spacious and room service is good.

It's been our 2nd time in this hotel. As the hotel slogan says, it has no casino, no nightclub and a place of serenity. thus it is just what we wanted as we're travelling with kids. From the pier there is a free shuttle bus to and from the hotel at the left hand side after you've passed through the exit. Frequency is every 30mins. The hotel is about 15mins away from the pier.

There was quite a line when we checked in but the staff were actually quite fast and you just fill-out the usual paper works. We had to carry our own bags to the room which was okay as there are 4 elevators serving that hotel. Coming from Metropark Mongkok, this place had a bigger room, soft beds and big bathroom. You can actually squeeze 5adults if you are really trying to save up.

Buffet breakfast was at HK$65, which was good enough for the spread they have. They somehow change some of the menu each day.

If you want to go to and check out on the other hotel casinos(Venetian,Galaxy,Wynn etc) you can just hop on Metropark's shuttle service to the pier and once at the pier you can choose on the different FREE shuttle buses that would take you to these places.

There is a 7-11 store in front, a few chinese restuarants near the area and a couple of grocery 2 blocks to the right at the back of the hotel. Bus stop is a few minutes walk from the hotel.

We arrived from HKIA via the Skypier/Turbojet transport process. This was easily done at HKIA as the signposting in Chinese and English was easy to find and there were also staff on hand to direct you to the correct queues etc. We waited for an hour for our ferry sailing and during this time our bags were found and transferred to the ferry and we collected our bags at the Macau ferry terminal. The whole process was smooth and easy. The collection of our bags at the Macau ferry terminal was slightly chaotic as there was only a small area for passengers to collect their bags.
Upon arrival and clearing immigration, we collected our bags and then went across the road via an underpass to the bus parking lot. This is a large area where shuttle buses from various casinos and hotels wait to collect their guests. The Metropark shuttle is white with a blue Metropark logo. The trip to the hotel took about 8 minutes.
Checking in was efficient and smooth. Prior to leaving home, we had emailed the hotel requesting a double bed in a non-smoking room. We were given a king-sized bed on a non-smoking floor.
The room was very big with a king-sized bed and an alcove that had two chairs and a small round table. There was a room safe and tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Room slippers were provided as were two complimentary bottles of water and also basic toiletries in the good sized bathroom. The room furnishings were in good condition although slightly dated. The room was very clean and there was no smell of smoke in the room.
There was no Wi-Fi in the room but there was free internet access in the lobby area. The connection was fast at times, slow at other times.
We found the hotel to be well located. The surrounding area had many eateries, a 7-11 nearby and a supermarket around the corner (come out of the hotel, turn right, turn right at the first intersection and then turn left).
It was easy to walk to see many places of interest in Macau - Senado Square 15 mins, Grand Lisboa casino 8 mins, Wynn casino 6 mins, MGM casino 6 mins, Hotel Sintra (to catch a shuttle to City of Dreams to see the House of Dancing Water show) 8 mins.
If reluctant to pay for a taxi to get to the casinos on the Cotai strip eg Galaxy, Venetian etc. just take the hotel shuttle to the ferry pier and then hop on to the relevant casino shuttle. Time consuming but free.
We were happy with our choice of this hotel. It was good value for the price we paid for the room. We would stay here again when we return to Macau.

Room Tip: we emailed the hotel prior to departure from home to confirm our request for a non-smoking room. thi...

First we booked a Superior room via Agoda at rate around 750 MOP (no ABF) and that's a fair price for us (2 girls). Not long before we traveled, one more friend decided to join our trip so we contacted the hotel directly to arrange an extra bed in our room. Finally we ended up paid 437 MOP more for an extra bed. That's a bit too much as it cost more than half of the room price.

Anyway, we used hotel shuttle service from ferry terminal to the hotel. When it came to pick us up, i'm a bit worry because we were only 3 customers in that small old van! I wonder what the hotel will look like.

Finally we arrived at the hotel, probably 5-10 minutes from the ferry terminal, quite good location - 7/11 and some restaurants are located just in walking distant from the hotel. The hotel's lobby looks quite luxury, lots of staff and other customers... better than what we thought.

We checked in to our room, as soon as we stepped in the room - we banged into the strong cigarette smell, strong enough to make all 3 of us felt dizzy. And yes, this is the non-smoking room. They even have a sign sayssmoking is prohibited and fine is 600 MOP. I wondered if anyone ever pay that. We called the reception and he sent the maid to sprayed inside our room. The spray that she used is quite good, so it covered the bad smell immediately. The reception guy called to follow up 5 minutes later and asked if we ok. At that time, it was fine. We went out for a few hours, came back and faced the same problem - cigarette smell. I think this smell is stuck in the carpet or curtain, that's why it still there so strong and i think the hotel know this problem. This time we went down to the front desk and asked if we could change the room. Luckily, we can - and guess what, there were no standard room available so we got upgraded to the Executive Suite!

As many reviews said the room is old decor, but i personally think it's quite charming. The room (the second room we got) is clean, spacious, fully equipped, bathroom is large, shower and toilet is great - and everything working properly. The staff are helpful and responded to our inquiries promptly. I think this is one of the best value hotels in Macau. Yes, this hotel has no casino - but well, while you are in Macau there are casinos everywhere and you can just walk or take the free casino buses. That's not an issue.

All in all, we enjoyed our stayed and felt comfortable and secured at Metropark. Would definitely considered staying there again if we visit Macau in the future.
