We drove over from Bournemouth UK on very early Monday morning. After a bit of a traffic jam getting there, we arrived at 10.05am and there was no queue at check in - took about 15 minutes to check in.
You do have to pay local tax if you booked on a UK site. it wasn't very much though, less than 10 Euros.
The car park was less than half full so we also got parked very close.
Bearing in mind check in was 3pm and we were 5 hours early, we were very surprised to find that our room was ready and we could go straight there. We were in room 1153. It is basically round the side on the same level as reception.
I took both of the children to the room whilst my partner took the spare luggage carrier out to the car and picked everything up.
The room was lovely, just as i had pictured from the reviews on here. We had a massive bed, its easily bigger than king size and then the bunk beds behind the curtain. Our 5 year old loved the bunks! The 1 year old was still too small for the bunk so we set up the travel cot in the corner.
The room was clean and tidy, well equipped and most importantly in the hot weather we had that week, it was cool! The air con was a god send this week. We had it on 24/7, turning it to its lowest setting for night time but during the day we had it up high so that after hot sweaty Disney fin, we could chill after a shower!
We quickly unpacked and headed off to Disney. The hotel is very well located, a bit too far to walk i think unless there is a shortcut we were not made aware of.
I will write a separate review of Disney, this is just for the hotel.
As we had a long day, we got back to the hotel for 730pm and started watching TV to unwind and relax the children. You had the ability on the TV to change the dialog to English and they also had BBC1 - we stuck to this as the commonwealth games were on.
We all fell asleep. Each bunk bed had its own light so once the curtain was pulled our little one loved his own space and light - he was asleep very quick!
The curtains for the room overlap each other and are 100% blackout. it was brilliant except without a clock, we woke up and had no idea if it was night or day!
There are also lots of plug sockets. One next to each bed and two on the desk table.
The bed was huge and comfortable. the pillows are a little small really, and they only give each person one, but as we had taken the children's ones for them, we had a couple of extra. Be aware though that despite the huge bed, the duvet over it literally only just covers it so you have to lay in the middle to get the cover to go over two adults and two children easily!
The showers are good, not power showers, but they are hot and just what is needed to freshen up. Toilets are quiet too which i find rare in hotels! There is also a hairdryer of decent quality and shaver sockets on the wall.
We got up early the following morning to go to the buffet breakfast. If you have a pushchair to take to breakfast, go to the lifts behind reception and go down one level, then the door next to the conference center takes you straight into the dining room - its isn't signposted. Very handy to know though if you have a child like ours that hates highchairs but is too small for normal chairs! You also get a table quicker as you can just walk in and sit down.
I was worried about breakfast after reading reviews but there are signs in all the lifts and main areas saying the best time to go for breakfast with no queue. We were there by 8am each morning there was no queue at all. We got seated straight away.
The food available is great. there are sausages, bacon, eggs (would probably stay away from these as they dont look very cooked), crepes, salad, bread for toast and there is a toast machine, baguettes, meats, cheese, pastries, hot drinks, cold drinks, yogurts, chocolate sauce, fruit and everything else you would expect for a continental breakfast. We filled up water bottles for the day and a Tupperware box full of snacks as food is so expensive out there.
We found it very stress free. It was very busy each time we left though, the queue was going up the stairs on two occasions. Wouldn't want to be standing in that! You do have the option of sitting outside if the weather is nice too, The gardens are great. Lovely place to sit.
We didnt eat dinner at the hotel, the menu in each room put us off with the prices!
We had a walk around the hotel and i couldnt find any faults with it at all.
The reception area is clean, spacious and has loads for the children. We didnt spend any money in the reception area, our little boy just enjoyed sitting in the cars and playing in the ball pits and watching the bigger children playing on the games that are there.
Each ride in reception costs about 1-2EUR and they are like the standard ride ons outside supermarkets.
The swimming pool is nice. it has the shallow childrens pool and then a deeper (not too deep that you cant touch the floor) bit with a slide in. There is also a Jacuzzi but this was out of order whilst we were there. it was very warm in there. The changing rooms are very basic and have code lockers so you dont need money to use them.
We really enjoyed the pool.
The corridors and lifts and carpets were all lovely and clean, very soft carpet too despite being in high use.
there is also a Disney shop in reception. It sold all the basics and lots of gifts/toys at the Disney prices.
There is also a letter box in the reception area for postcards to be posted out.
The hotel never felt busy. There was always a member of staff stood in the area if you had any questions.
The wifi is brilliant, we didnt have a problem with it once. You do have to log in every 24 hours but even so, the speed was brilliant.
Housekeeping was great. They made the bed and set up our children's toys and books in a fun way. The only thing i didn't like was that one afternoon they turned the air con off, so when we got back at 11pm after a busy day out, it was rather warm. But the air con soon cooled it down to a comfortable level and we slept really well.
We are economical so we just re used our towels. they gave us 8 bath towels, 2 hand towels and a bath mat. We only put one in the bath for the housekeeping to replace, which they did.
As our little boy took toy cars with him, when we left we looked under all the beds and units and not once did we find any rubbish or build up of dust.
In summary, this hotel is awesome. It certainly deserves its 4 stars.
I cant understand why people are leaving such bad reviews. It isnt a Disney hotel, it is a partner hotel. it isnt 5 stars and it is on Disney ground so prices for everything are going to go up considerably.
There are vending machines all over the hotel and there is a fridge in each room with tea/coffee facilities and a supply of tea.
There is a safe in the wardrobe which also has a light in it for when you open it. There are hooks for coats behind the door and a great child friendly feature is the peep holes in the door. there are two, one at adult height and one at the childrens height. Our son loved looking through it!
I cant fault anything this hotel did. Even when they had reduced water supply one day we coped, it wasnt very noticeable at all. It was well advertised and you shouldnt have missed it.
We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay here and we will certainly be back here next year.
If you are travelling and have any concerns or more direct query about the hotel, please dont hesitate to email me, i am more than happy to help.
We loved the Dream Castle, it really was a dream come true for us! Thank you!
