We missed our flight out of the FCO airport after a cruise and I picked this hotel because it was cheap and had a decent rating on KAYAK. I had no idea what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised. Is it the Ritz? No. But it's right across the street from the beach which I also didn't know when I booked it. Now if you just check in and stay in your room you may be slightly underwhelmed. I wouldn't call it dated but like I said, not the Ritz. The rooms were clean with flat screen tv's (that have usb ports on the back to charge your phone) and we had a killer view of the ocean. There was also free wi-fi in the lobby which I really really needed.
Where this little hotel on the beach shines is in its people. We couldn't believe the service. Literally shocked. As soon as we arrived we decided to have a cappuccino and a bottle of water large enough for us all. The waiter asked if we would like anything to snack on. We declined. Next thing you know he brings us a plate of piping hot "donut holes" that are heaven. Literally like they stole Krispy Kreme's recipe but sprinkled with sugar instead of being glazed. Amazing! Four cafes, a free plate of donuts and a large bottle of water later we were out 8 euros. What a relief after being price gouged for a week. That was only the beginning. We had ordered one room for four people seeing a how we were just looking for a place to crash. Since one was not available he gave us two double rooms for the price of one. We were thrilled.
Being Americans we were then looking for a place to eat around 5 pm. That's a no no in Italy. Nothing opens for dinner until around 7:30. The guy behind the counter offers to give us a ride to the nearest pizza place. We were amazed at his generosity but declined since my father in law had had his fill of pizza. We ended up eating at the hotel when it opened at 7:30. Before our dinner had arrived we were delivered bread with butter, bread with olive oil on top, and bread with olive oil and tomato slices. Excellent! For free. I had the pizza which I could only eat half of after all the fantastic bread. The in laws had the hamburger steak which was very very good and my wife had the pasta which I found a little bland. I didn't really pay attention to the price because they put it on the room but when we checked out the next morning the total for our stay was 135 euros. Crazy.
Can't really comment on the breakfast. We had to be out of there by 6:30 am to catch the next flight but the gentleman behind the counter was happy to make us morning cafes from the bar and they left out some croissants and cake I assume were strictly for us since we told them we were leaving early. Breakfast was included in the price.
This place is not the Ritz. You shouldn't expect it to be at this price. The people were unbelievable though.
If I had to give any constructive criticism, I would say invest in some better towels. They weren't bad but they reminded me of really large cloth place mats.
I would easily stay here again. Especially for the price. It really felt like a family run hotel and the service can't be over exaggerated.
