It was one of the most particular hotel in all our trips! Stay in the real fortress is very interesting, colourful and mysterious. There were some disadvantages, but in general it’s a wonderful highly recommended hotel!

+ The real ancient castle with the interiors in the same style!
+ I have written at the hotel in advance and asked for the biggest room cause I know that Standard rooms are not very spacious, and as we have stayed for 4 nights during our romantic trip we wanted to have more comfort. And we have got the best Standard room!
+ Our room was clean and comfortable, with TV, fridge and hairdryer. There was no air-conditioner, but we didn’t need it (in the beginning of September) cause on the fortress hill it’s always a little bit colder than in the town. There was also heater, but we didn’t use it.
+ We had an ancient-style room with the modern bathroom: so we stayed in the old fortress with the modern comfort!
+ Bathroom was very light and spacious.
+ Our room had a fantastic panoramic view to the old Sorano.
+ There were delicious local cheese and ham on the breakfast.
+ The reception was very polite and helpful and there were many free maps.
+ There are many relax places in the hotel: cosy ancient-style living rooms and some tables in the charming courtyard of the fortress.
+ Old Sorano is within a few steps from the hotel, literally under our windows.
+ There is a large free parking in 2 minutes from the hotel, but you can also arrive directly to the fortress for leaving the luggage.
+ All guest of the hotel have a discount on the visit of dungeons of the fortress and some other places of interest in area Sorano-Sovana-Pitigliano.
+ Near the hotel there is a delicious and not expensive restaurant Fidalma - highly recommended!
+ And for all this pleasure we have paid only 55 euro per night – very-very good price!

- The breakfast wasn’t various, salty part and hot drinks are provided on request and then you should wait for it, meanwhile sweet dishes (cakes, muesli, bread, butter, jams, milk, juices and fruits) are unlimited and served in the dining room.
- Our double room had one bed but two mattresses (very uncomfortable for romantic trip), and in the evening there was no enough light.
- There were some problems in the bathroom: no towel hooks, switching upper/lower shower and water discharge didn’t work well, but the last is because of ancient fortress.
- Wi-Fi in the hotel is very uncomfortable - only in the reception area, but we had a room in the another part of fortress and we had to go through the courtyard, not very comfortable in the night or cold weather.
- Reception is open only till 8 PM, so if you arrive later you will make check-in by yourself with the instruction sent by SMS.
- Soap and shower gel were given not every day.
Not defects, but pay attention:
- There are two schedule for the breakfast (8:00-9:00 and 9:00-10:00), but if you don’t like yours it can be changed.
- Most of the rooms are on the first and second floor (without elevator), so it can be a problem for some guests.

Room Tip: Aks for the most spacious standard room with the best panoramic view

The desk did not make it clear that there is parking at the top. This fortress is absolutely from another place! Our pictures are numerous and reflect the uniqueness of this stay! Two nights--two beds, large bathroom, fresh air, a view, a breakfast to last half the day, and all in a small town as quaint as you can imagine! The price of the hotel on Orbitz was 158 Euros for all. Unbelievable place to stay the first nights of our visit to Italy! Caution: the ground is uneven, the interior stairs are uneven. Use the handrails. Ask for meat and cheese in addition to what is laid out for the breakfast buffet. The drinks in the cooler are for sale for your day of hiking or for visiting Saturnia. My only complaint is that the bed was too hard--and I like firm beds and the "pillows" (cushions?) leave a bit to be desired. Another caution: be very careful driving down the switchback! Or...simply park across the street and haul....

Room Tip: It wouldn't surprise me if all the rooms have a view.

Our stay at the Hotel della Fortezza was exceptional, a wonderful and peaceful experience thanks to proprietor Cristiano his staff of Arianna, Eleonora, Zoe and many more not mentioned. We just spent one night due to our travels, and staff was too kind in changing my dates as well as upgrading us since it was my birthday and we were also on our wedding anniversary trip through Tuscany. Highly recommend this stop in your travels, you may stay and never leave.

The beautiful setting of Sorana is enough for any couple looking for a retreat where you can choose romance, adventure or the Celestial local food.
The staff are focused on you and give everything to making your stay 6 star.
We stayed for four nights in the fort tower, we walked to our room across the fortress wall "THE FORTRESS WALL"

When I started planning my trip to Tuscany, and wanted to visit this region, of Sorano, Pitigliano and Sovana, this hotel struck my fascination and it was the best choice at a very reasonable price and great place.

Cristiano and his staff are each one a sales person for the region, an area of Tuscany, that very little is heard of, and what an amazing surprise is to visit it.
We stayed only two nights, the area deserves at least three nights, at least!!!, so if you want to discover the Secret Tuscany, the one that very few foreigners know, come to this part of Italy, you will not be disappointed and the hotel rooms are enough, no need for a lobby to stay in....it is a medieval fortress and spectacular views....

And there is a museum right in the entrance area, and a tour as well nearby, well worth it...as for car parking is about 200 yds from the very entrance but all is safe....do not travel very heavy.

Room Tip: any room all is quiet and nice, even if they may seem small.
