“OK for where it is at”
Reviewed 24 October 2007

The Hotel Sahara feels like it is at the end of the world. In a way, it is. The trip from Zagora takes about four hours, but is interesting.

There are very few hotels in M'Hamid, only two that I saw. The Hotel Sahara is a former French Foreign Legion barracks, and is showing its age. There are shared facilities with two showers and two toilets (one squat, one sit down).

We did have food while there, which was very good. Habib Naamani, the owner, arrangfed a camel and camping expedition for us. Habib was one of the highlights of the hotel. He spoke perfect English, was very hospitable, and gave us the impression that he is a town leader. At night, people from around town came to him while he sat on the terrace and spoke with him. He wears beauiflu blue robes and a black turban which he often unrolls and then immedietly rerolls. A truly memorable person.

The rooms are very basic, but have a bed, sink, nightstand, and overhead light.

Overall, the hotel is not very nice, but, considering the area and choices, is fine.
