“Lovely Apartment with a fantastic outlook”
Reviewed 18 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Four of us visited (2 couples) Alhaurin el Grande for the first time September 2015 and stayed in a great location on the edge of the town, the upstairs terrace view is lovely over lemon trees to hillside you can see miles :D. A spacious apartment well equipped and a lovely shaded terrace (downstairs) where u can pick a lemon for your gin ;-) We were recommended a local taxi driver Juan who speaks great English and helped us with our visit to Mijas and Fuengarola our 2 visits during the week we stayed here. Lovely local shops, and bar with delicious food just round the corner. Maybe a 20 minute walk to town but stop at the square on the way for people watching and a drinkipoo en-route.

We loved the town (very Spanish) the people were very friendly and for sure we will be back.

“I love Andalucia!!”
Reviewed 14 September 2015 for a stay in July 2015

I travelled to Alhaurin el Grande with three girfriends in late July for 10 days, never having been to mainland Spain before.
From the first off at the airport being greeted by Juan, our local taxi driver, arranged by Peter I knew I was going to enjoy my stay.
Firstly; the weather was fantastic - although too hot at 43c most days but, I found that chilled beer helps!!
The apartment was off the main thoroughfare at the quiet end of the town....very residential. The accommodation was on the ground floor with 2 really lovely front bedrooms, a huge sitting area and separate dining room, traditionally furnished and just lovely to enjoy a meal in. There were 2 smaller, less attractive rooms at the back and side of the apartment. All very clean and tidy though (apart from the fridge) with plenty of towels available and......drum roll here.....a washing machine!!!

So, for the room allocation it was numbers in hat for us 4 girls and I copped the small double just off the close; hotter than h*** during the night even with the noisy fan on. All the rooms were so hot but it was late July after all. I can't help thinking that it would really benefit from the installation of air conditioning though.
Bathrooms were great, very spacious and spotless, with brilliant showers.....like blown across the wall powerful!!!
The kitchen was okay, well enough equipped with all you'd need for self catering although the fridge/freezer seemed to labour in the heat and wasn't the best.
The terraces were great...the upper one with it's superb views was scorching in the afternoon sun and the lower was better, being shaded by vines and very tranquil.

Peter and Karen very thoughtfully left extensive information, not only about practical stuff for the apartment but about what was best in and around the area, especially the many superb restaurants we tried, my favourite being Bar Sardina about 1km up the hill into the town. Near the apartment (500m approx) is the lovely La Higueras and a wee very Spanish grill/cafe only 200m round the corner. Oh, and not forgetting the 'chicken bar' selling delicious roast chickens and salads for take out 200m around the corner at weekends!! Two supermarkets closeby too, with all the fresh produce and wine you could need. The larger supermarket is in the main town, with more choice but the local stores were very good.

Getting around using Juan's taxi would be expensive if that was all you used, however charming and helpful he is. So I would recommend hiring a car if your mobility is not up to par (like mine) . However, once you figure out the public transport (bus) you could plan your day further afield and very inexpensive it was too.
We went to Fuengirola for the beach, Mijas for the municipal pool and just because it is so beautiful and we found the best tapas ever at Sancha.....I want to stay there!!. Malaga, Marbella and Puerto Banus are all on the bus route, you just need to plan it out with times.

Within Alhaurin itself the main town was lovely, I liked that it was a busy, working town and the people were so very friendly and helpful.
And....Juan was just brilliant....he was very helpful and so patient with my endless questions about the local area and places further afield.
I thought it was all great, and I would definitely go back, but I could see it being as a solo traveller, I think. This being due to the fact that the general consensus among the group was the lack of access locally to a pool was a real drawback to what was otherwise a great holiday.

That said, we improvised and I just loved it all!!!

“Very nice golfing break”
Reviewed 7 August 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We used the “Orange Grove View” as a base for a 4 man golfing holiday in June. The apartment had everything we needed for the perfect getaway.
• Excellent rural location in Alhaurin el Grande away from the main tourist areas at the coast.
• Spacious public rooms and terraces with views on which pre-dinner drinks were enjoyed.
• Close proximity to some fantastic restaurants which offered exceptional quality and value as well as a warm welcome and friendly service. We visited the restaurants recommended by Peter and were not disappointed.
• Close proximity to the Alhaurin Golf Club which provides a spectacular setting and thoroughly deserves its “must play” status.
• We used Juan, a local taxi driver recommended by Peter. Juan was reliable and prompt (by Spanish standards) and provided an excellent friendly service as well as up to date advice on any bars and restaurants that should be avoided!
• The apartment provided a haven of tranquillity; situated in a side street away from the main road and free from spouses.
• The only downside was that there was no sports psychologist on hand to deal with the issues that 3 members of the party encountered during each day’s play.
An excellent break, thoroughly enjoyed by all and thanks to Peter for all the recommendations.

“Great place to stay!”
Reviewed 17 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Just wanted to thank you both for introducing us to your secret Spain! What a wonderful time we had!!
The views from the balcony were wonderful, overlooking the orchards towards the mountains and the apartment had everything we could wish for. It was great to work through your recommendations on what to eat at the different restaurants.....we like a challenge! The food was excellent and very reasonable and there so many to chose from...I feel we need to go back to try the ones we missed! :)
Alharien is ideally placed for visits to Mijas and Malaga, although we were perfectly happy wandering around the village. Please pass on our thanks to the lovely Juan, who was very friendly, helpful and reliable......we will certainly be back!.....Thank you both for your help and advice....and for giving us a taste of the 'real' Spain....

“Traditional Spanish getaway”
Reviewed 4 October 2014 for a stay in August 2014

I travelled with my two daughters 9 and 10, my son 18 and my mum 73. Apartment was lovely, very clean and spacious with everything you need. A bit too hot at times but it was mid August :) Apartment is in a beautiful town in the mountains about half an hour from Fuengirola.(for beach) Town is very safe and locals are friendly. Kids and big kid had fun playing in the paddling pool in the back terrace and every other day at the beach. We didn't have a car and it is easy to get around by bus but as my mum has limited mobility, I hired a wheelchair from Malaga (which was delivered and picked up from the apartment) and we had Juan the taxi driver, very prompt and available to us 24/7 (which was a comfort to my mum in her health condition). He made us feel welcome and was very helpful. There are 2 small supermarkets just around the corner (with all the essentials), along with a fantastic restaurant and it is a must to dine in the main town Fri/Sat night as the atmosphere is amazing. Peter (the owner) was very hospitable and helpful even during our stay, he was happy to answer any questions I had. It would be nice to visit when it's a little cooler to explore the other towns, but thank you Peter for letting us share your Spanish home and experience the real Spanish way of life, which I could adjust to very easily! ;)

“Excellent Apartment / Location”
Reviewed 8 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We travelled with our two children (4 and 8) and another family with a 15 and a 17 year old. Quite an age range yet there is something for everyone in this beautiful region of Spain. Trips to Mijas, Ojen, Marbella and Puerto Banus plus the lovely beach at Cabopino (just off the cost road out of Marbella towards Fuengarola). We have stayed at the apartment several times and keep coming back! Beautifully clean, quiet and very well appointed with two full bathrooms, 3 reception spaces, two excellent terraces (the lower of which is lovely in the morning and evening and the upper one a real sun trap), washing machine and a big fridge! Alhaurin is everything you would want as a base for your holiday, it has lots of life yet manages to be sleepy away from the main drag. Lots of really good restaurants / bars and decent supermarkets etc. Lots of support from the owners and very friendly neighbours on hand also. If you are looking for somewhere that gives a true flavour of the real Spain, with access to great restaurants, pools, beaches and towns you can't go wrong here!

I stayed in this lovely apartment approx one year ago and fell in love with it and it's location. I was home for 3 weeks last year before booking the holiday I have just come home from there!!
Once again the owners were friendly helpful and extremely knowledgeable of the area. The apartment was immaculate and there was plenty of room for me and my 8 family members.the views are beautiful and the town itself is fabulous if you want a real taste of an andulucian town surrounded by mountains and full of friendly locals!! I simply won't stay anywhere else in Spain and this apartment ticks every single box for both me and now many friends and family members!!! 11/10 - thank you for Letting us stay in your lovely apartment again!! sam and the family
