This is a great place to stay the food is really up there by comparison to its peers. The food was a highlight compared to similar starred restaurants. Rooms good and grounds interesting. Good location.

I was going to write a long review about how great everything was but then checked previous comments which said it all---Brilliant
Did not get time to use spa facilities
Please go visit if you are in this part of the world --you will not be disappointed
I just hope they will have a room available for me next time I call and the prices will still be as good!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room17 which I think was typical of the others--absolutely no complaints or suggestions...

What can I say that hasn't already been said ? Can't wait to go again from stepping inside on the first day to leaving on the last day it was fantastic. We stayed 4 nights & ate in the restaurant 2 evenings fantastic food but unfortunately the menu doesn't change it is a seasonal menu. We had petit fours with our coffee & they too were the same every evening. The staff are outstanding nothing is ever too much trouble for them & the place is immaculate. The public rooms are a delight especially the morning room & the library. The one room we felt that didn't quite match the rest of the hotel was the bar it felt quite drab & dreary in comparison to the light openness of the rest of the hotel. I haven't stopped praising the hotel since I returned home & would not hesitate to recommend it anybody. Be sure to make use of the Spa can highly recommend the full body massage!!! Our room had fantastic jacuzzi bath beware only a few drops of bubble bath required.

Room Tip: Room 21 has nobody next door & a dead end corridor nice & quiet.

I was recommended to try this hotel when I was talking about its sister hotel Eshott Hall which we had stayed at and loved. One advantage with Doxford Hall is the pool which would have been better if there had been some towels instead of having to search cupboards in the spa as there were no staff around. The setting for this hotel is great, the grounds, the maze all add to the recommendation, Our room was excellent and the bathroom one of the best we have ever had. The evening meal and breakfast were all very good, although my wife struggled with the menu as a vegetarian
Overall this is a very good hotel which we will visit again, however, despite the pool I think I would disagree with the recommendation for sheer luxury and service I personally preferred Eshott Hall

Remote, rural and grand but only a short distance from the A1, Doxford Hall is the perfect place to explore nearby Holy Island and the Northumbrian Coast.

I booked a double room through their website before realising a cheaper offer was available on Secret Escapes, which the hotel then matched when I called to change my booking.

The hotel has a number of different lounges in which to enjoy afternoon tea, after dinner coffee or just a good book. The food in the restaurant is excellent and the custard tart in particular is sublime.

The grounds are nice to walk around and you can work up an appetite for that three course dinner in the small pool that was actually bigger than I expected it to be.

What was of slight disappointment were the rooms. Ours was very generously proportioned with a good sized bed, I think what I didn't particularly care for was the dark faux mahogany furniture and the magnolia walls. Our room was also quite warm and I would imagine could be quite uncomfortable in high summer. Still it was clean and tidy and would not put me off staying again, which I hope to do soon.

It's smart, the rooms are large and luxurious, but best of all it's not remotely "stuffy". The staff are just superb. Their professional but relaxed easy-going style is a delight and would make any visit to Doxford Hall a happy experience. Very quick too to respond to any requests.
We echo all the positives in the previous reviews.
Lovely food well presented in the main dining room. Two AA rosettes well-deserved. The menu doesn't change but there's about 7 main courses to choose from, including two fish and a vegetarian option. Bread and an amuse bouche provided before the starters are a nice touch. Courses progress smoothly from one to another with just a short gap in-between.
We found four public rooms which are light and airy and offer a great variety of very comfortable sitting spaces. The old world library and modern morning room have natural top lighting adding to their charm. Lots of gardens to wander and sit in, including a sunken herbaceous and rose garden, and a wide grassy terrace overlooking the open countryside.

Room Tip: They all appeared to be spacious and luxurious.
