“JUST THE TICKET FOR A WEDDING CELEBRATION”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

Hi Folks
Wife and were I invited to Doxford Hall Hotel and Spa 28/06/14 for a wedding reception evening party . We have been to this venue on a number of occasions prior to the wedding as we live on the outskirts of Alnwick Northumberland .
They never fail to impress . The pure ambiance and setting of the place is pure magic .The staff are very switched on , bar prices not to bad and bar staff good . The evening buffet was a mixed hot and cold very nice and after a few beers that went down a treat . The only "Damper" the brides Grandfather took ill, he's an old mate of mine , and he was whisked off to hospital . The staff took care of that. Very attentive. The party continued and we all had a great time . Thanks again Staff and management at Doxford Hall and Spa .

Les Slater . Alnwick Northumberland

We stayed at DOxford hall for a family member's wedding in late May 2014. The hotel is beautiful and set in beautiful grounds. The staff put on a truly spectacular wedding. The service and food were excellent. The manager Anthony Fife did an excellent job on the day and could not have been more helpful. Our room was lovely and big and the breakfast the next morning was excellent. All in all a fantastic experience had by all.

Five of us visited Doxford recently as part of a golden wedding anniversary celebration.Between us we had 3 rooms and all three were very good. All were slightly different in size and style , however all well appointed and comfortable.

The hotel is set in lovely grounds that are pleasant and we enjoyed both relaxing in the garden and a nice walk.

The staff we encountered were warm and welcoming and seemed very professional. However the hotel was very busy and staff seemed to be working at full stretch to accommodate wedding parties.

The one area that detracted from our stay was the food. Our stay was for 2 nights and we ate in the hotel both nights. On the first night we ate in one of the lounges . We went down for dinner around seven and a number of tables had yet to be cleared away from afternoon tea.It took quite a while for us to get some service and once ordered quite a while for our food to arrive.Regrettably when the food did arrive it was not of a very good standard at all. Two of us had ordered the catch of the day and this turned out to be battered and deep fried salmon .Whilst this was a new culinary experience it was not one any of us would be in a hurry to repeat.Even a straight forward steak sandwich managed to be pretty poor.

The following evening we ate in the restaurant. This was better but not by much and when we commented that we had not enjoyed one dish in particular we were met by a bit of a huffy response.Again we got the impression that the hotel was preoccupied by the weddings taking place unfortunately to the cost of their non wedding guests.

Breakfasts were a different matter. All five of us had various items from the breakfast menu and we all enjoyed what we had.

We did enjoy the hotel and its surroundings. We had a comfortable and relaxing stay. We had spa treatments and enjoyed these .We suspect we were unlucky with the food simply because we stayed at peak wedding season and the hotel was so busy .

This is a luxurious country house hotel set in well kept beautiful grounds. We were made to feel welcome by Dan, the concierge, who helped us with our luggage and was a mine of information about the hotel. Our room (5) was spacious, clean and rather grand. The furniture was new but traditional. The bathroom was modern, had a whirlpool bath and was generously supplied with toiletries. Free wifi is not available in the bedrooms but can be accessed in some of the public rooms.

Dinner was a little formal but not too stuffy. Our food was very good but I felt that the chef had tried a little too hard to be different with the presentation of the dishes. For instance, our starter of seared scallops was accompanied by pigs cheek and celeriac remoulade. Unfortunately, the strong mustard taste of the remoulade completely overwhelmed the delicate, delicious flavour of the scallops. Half board guests receive a £40 allowance against the a la carte menu. This is barely sufficient for three courses and therefore limits the choice somewhat unless you are prepared to pay extra.

The cooked breakfast was good but not outstanding.

In summary, therefore, this a very attractive and comfortable, if quite expensive, country house hotel and we enjoyed our stay here. However, the dining experience did not quite live up to our expectations.

This is a great place to stay the food is really up there by comparison to its peers. The food was a highlight compared to similar starred restaurants. Rooms good and grounds interesting. Good location.

I was going to write a long review about how great everything was but then checked previous comments which said it all---Brilliant
Did not get time to use spa facilities
Please go visit if you are in this part of the world --you will not be disappointed
I just hope they will have a room available for me next time I call and the prices will still be as good!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room17 which I think was typical of the others--absolutely no complaints or suggestions...
