“Just lovely - very relaxing time at the Doxford”
Reviewed 18 December 2010

Stayed at the Doxford for one (Sunday) night in December. The hotel was quiet which we really enjoyed. Our room was lovely - comfy, elegant, lots of space and luxury bathroom. All staff were very helpful and made our stay relaxing. The stay included use of the gym and spa area which was nice - we had them all to ourselves - which was fab. The guy working in the gym was really nice and friendly. We ate in the lounge in the evening and the food was excellent. Breakfast was a nice spread with a some cooked options also available from the kitchen - was hard to choose. All-in-all a lovely stay and would love to go back.

Two night dinner bed and breakfast break to celebrate a 61 birthday in a standard room on ground floor-Lindisfarne.
Superbly clean room and large bathroom with separate shower(was shown an upgrade room but over bath shower).,easily controllable heating which was important as snowed.
Excellent service throughout and food to a high standard. Menu shows vegetables as extras but are not necessary as main dish comes as described with generous portions.
Somewhat disappointed the very small forecourt area in front of the main entrance doors had not been cleared of snow when we left but that would be the only criticism. We were told some of the wooden floors are to be carpeted.
Did not use spa area but warm and welcoming whwn we looked in.
Would certainly return and recommend

Two day winter break with husband - and we were snowed in! Staff could not do enough to help and make us comfortable, digging out cars in car park, even bringing in local people to staff a wedding. (The bride organised tractors to get there.) Ontop of it all, we left a suitcase in the foyer on departure as I was fretting about a journey in the snow - they kept it safe and are sending it to us by courier. Absolutely marvellous service and in a wonderful location for Northumbria's treasures, will definitely visit again.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights to relax, enjoy the spa, the local area, good food and wine. We were certainly not disappointed in the slightest! The staff were very welcoming and the service we received was excellent. Everyone we spoke with during our stay enthused about working at the hotel and how excited they were about the new wing opening early next year. The food was excellent, the wine list of good quality and reasonably priced, the spa treatments were fab and the feel of the hotel was certainly calm and relaxing. We will definitely return soon and would have no qualms about recommending the hotel or its location to anyone.

The highest level of quality, decor and comfort is seen throughout this beautifully renovated house. So pleasing not to see cheap contract furnishings detract from the original grandeur and opulence.
The room we were in, Room 27, was a good size with nice views and a luxurious double bed. The en-suite was large and airy with a good shower and a super whirlpool bath. The standard of cleanliness and the attention to detail throughout was excellent (with the exception of the puzzling siting of the large obtrusive fuseboard mounted on the wall by the door).
We didn’t have the opportunity to visit the spa or dine in the hotel, as we were visiting friends, however there was an extensive breakfast menu which was very good and the staff were very helpful and most pleasant.
Although the hall has been beautifully restored to the highest standards, the wonderful oak flooring throughout the building does not lend itself well to a hotel, and every footstep and scraping of chairs can be heard resounding throughout the building.
An extra bed was requested for our daughter, the poor condition of which would have been evident to whoever erected it in the room. At bedtime (11pmish), the mattress collapsed through the base as one of the slats supporting the thin mattress was clearly broken, and it was unfit for purpose. A replacement was brought and found to have 3 slats broken (with obvious signs of attempted repair), and a third bed was missing some slats altogether. We were finally brought a different style of foldaway bed which had a metal mesh platform, and although the mattress was somewhat unsavoury, we made up the bed and it was perfectly adequate.

Fancied a night away in York but couldn't find a deal and so found this place on laterooms. No idea it even existed and yet its only about 30 miles away from us. Booked the room for £99. WOW factor as soon as you walk into reception. Part of the building seems to be still under renovation but there are no obvious signs of workmen, it seems to be kept quite discreet.

The rooms are wonderful, nicely appointed with molton brown toiletries. Door makes an odd thud when you leave the room, no idea what that's all about. There is a maid cleaning the whole building all day long, she's forever polishing the staircase and reception, she made me feel tired watching her.

The pool area has the oddest changing rooms I've ever come across and the gym is strangely situated a few floors away but all in all it was a fantastic experience. Restaurant has a separate vegetarian menu which is always an excellent plus point for us.

They're very trusting here, they don't even ask for a swipe of a credit card when you check in here. All in all an excellent visit.

Wonderful room, great food (although menu doesn't change so after a few days you'll be back to the beginning of the menu) friendly and helpful staff, convenient location which is central for main tourist attractions, pleasant grounds although in need of a little TLC, car parking on gravel under trees and not on tarmac
