Accomodation in Resolute Bay:
I thought the Narwhal Inn Hotel in Resolute Bay, Nunavut was a great option for lodge type accomodation in Resolute Bay. It was comfortable, warm, and clean. A lot of workers and pilots stay there so you are greated with a coat room where you can leave all your bulky jackets and boots. Bring slippers or sandals or just walk around in sock feet on the carpet.
I thought the hotel was very welcoming and friendly. They offer a small selection of t-shirts and souvenirs. There was a large TV room with comfortable sofas.
The cafeteria offered a standard selection of comfort food as well as snacks and desserts. It reminded me a lot of a cozy college cafeteria.
The rooms were small but comfortable. My matress was very comfortable and I saw them strip the entire bed (matress cover, blankets, everthing) when they were cleaning the rooms which was great. My bathroom/shower was shared with another room and but you can lock the door to your room if you are not using it. The walls are pretty thin and you can hear a little noise from the hallway but all in all it was a pretty quiet hotel. My blinds let a little sunlight in which in the "land of the midnight sun" was a little annoying. I found it hard to sleep. In my room was a small desk, clean towels, TV with DVD player. No alarm clock, so bring your own.
All in all, the Narwhal Inn was a great option and great place to stay in Resolute Bay. It is located close to the airport approx. 5 min truck ride into town.
Tip: Drive by the town dump. You may catch a glimpse of polar bears.
Tip: The Co-op store intown has a small selection of other souvenirs and some basic carvings (they weren't very nice and quite expensive).
Tip: Some husky dogs are usually tied up by the bay shore and are always happy to see a friend. They smell like fish so don't wear a suit if you go play with them.
Tip: If you can, get on a short Kenn Boreck charter to Griese Fjord, the most northern inhabited Inuit community. There you can even get guides to explore more of the arctic, go fishing, etc.
Enjoy the arctic. It's a magical place!
