I stayed here as part of a business trip recently. It is worth considering if you are doing the same.
Located in the new exhibition area of Barcelona, it is a short taxi ride into the city centre, and that will cost you about €10 to €15 each way. It was not busy during my stay but I can imagine this hotel is jammed during the exhibition season, so book as early ahead as you can.
My room was spacious and spotlessly clean. It had a wet room instead of a toilet bathroom combo. Huge bed, a desk to work at and also a sofa if I wanted to "sit soft". The internet access is free and worked well. Great views from the upper floors. The full drop curtains actually overlapped and created the darkest hotel room I have ever been in, which is a positive for me.
It is also on one of the main routes to the airport and there always seemed to be plenty of taxis outside the hotel. Cost of a taxi to the airport seemed a bit high at €20 compared with going the other way into town.
Hotel P/F is a great hotel for business, either overnight or for longer stays for events and exhibitions. I would stay here on a short city break.

We had to fly back to Barcelona from Netherlands in order to catch our flight back to Singapore the following day hence we chose this hotel due to the proximity with the airport. The design of the hotel at the lobby and in the room itself was nice and modern. The bed was not very comfortable though. This is definitely more of a business type of hotel as there are many office buildings and some industrial compounds nearby. The metro station and the streets above leading back to the hotel can be empty or very quiet at night after 10pm. We didn't encounter any unpleasant or dangerous situations on the 2 nights we were there (went back at 12 midnight on 1st night and a little past 10pm on the 2nd night) but always be safe than sorry. Best to have company if you decide to return late or in the wee hours.

The most terrible service you can imagine. Bad food, service at the front desk was also very bad. Found a few cockroaches in my room. Conclusion: look for an other hotel to visit Barcelona. There are much better hotels for this money. Next time it will be THE renaissance hotel again

Dear Guest,

Regarding your comments, we would like to explain the real situation we had in the hotel during your stay in order to clarify our position and to show our point of view to all Trip Advisor Community.

You stayed in the hotel with a group of 9 people, from March 13th to March 17th, during those days, there were different situations regarding your behavior which the hotel could not accept (throwing chairs in the restaurant or throwing water on the waiters, for example), and this is the reason we had to hire 2 extra security staff after your first night in the hotel, to guarantee our guests and employee’s safety. It is important to explain that even one member of your group apologized to our restaurant’s manager about the incidences caused during the dinner.

Your behavior was not only at the bar and restaurant, but also at the check out time when the responsible of your group didn’t want to pay for the high extra charges you had during your stay. After discuss with the front desk manager about your invoice, also the general manager tried to talk with the leader, but it was impossible, due to his attitude.

Regarding to the cockroaches comment; when we received your complaint, we immediately offered you to change the room upgrading you to a Superior room. After that, the room was blocked and inspected exhaustively and nothing was found inside.

We consider that the Hotel Porta Fira offers an excellent and accurate service to all our guests as you can see with all the comments we receive daily, which we really appreciate and help us to improve our level of service.

We are disappointed if you didn’t have a good stay with us, but we cannot accept some behaviors that makes feel uncomfortable the rest of our guests.

Yours sincerely,

The Management

We travel on a very regular basis and I must say that Hotel Porta Fira in Barcelona is possibly one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in. The rooms are very comfortable and finished to a very high standard, the reception area is very impressive and the staff are very, very helpfull an absolute pleasure to stay there, would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel is perfectly situated for a visit at the Barcelona Exhibition halls (the new exhibition) Gran Via. Hotel is in a nice design and the room I had was held in red and white colours, quite cool. The cleaness was okay and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I can only recommend the hotel.

Stayed at this hotel for one night during Mobile World Congress, I wasn't paying and glad I didn't as the price was very expensive. It's a very unusual shape from the outside and you look at it and question what it will be like inside. But on entering the building it's very modern with a large reception area and restaurant. The rooms are really nice and modern, well equipped and a comfortable bed. The shower is a completely separate room to the toilet and your sink is part of the bedroom, but it works.....
Breakfast good and plentiful.
It's a great location for the convention centre just over the road.
I'd be very happy to stay here again on business.
