Bottom Line: Despite your purpose, great front desk service. Overall this hotel has a friendly, accommodating staff and is s best for short stays on a budget or a need to stay near the airport.
I think the other pros and cons depend on your purpose.
Pre and Post Cruise—We stayed at the Renaissance in Barcelona for pre cruise and here for post cruise. We just wanted something close to the airport and an inexpensive, less than 24 hour stay before our flight. No issues, nice room, staff arranged for taxi to the airport.
Business Traveler—As someone that travels for business, I don’t know if this would be my first choice. The main reason is the lack of adequate work space in the room. There is a work area, but the lighting is horrible. And there isn’t a hub for several items to be plug in. There is also no overhead lighting. There is a small tube light for the work area but dim. The room is quite dark especially since part of the wall is dark and the floors dark. The lobby also is not conducive to serving as a work space. And although a nice shopping mall within walking distance, there didn’t seem to be a lot of eating options.
Leisure Travel—As others have mentioned, not for a vacation or a first time visit to Barcelona. It is a nice area but not Barcelona. Although inexpensive, the daily internet and breakfast rate eats up the savings unless you are Marriott Gold or Platinum. There is also the transportation cost into Barcelona.
FYI—Make sure your transportation knows this hotel is not actually in Barcelona. There is a street, with the same name, in Barcelona. The taxi ride to the airport, for two people, is about 33 Euros although only a 10-15 minute drive (but I believe there is no way around this due to a minimum rate to the airport). There is no free breakfast—not even continental. And although it looks nice, the breakfast food was cold and primarily sweets. It’s not worth paying extra try to get it included in your room rate as we did. The hotel has some age on it. Attempts at a face lift were not fully successful but it is clean and given its age as well maintained as possible.
