Renaissance Barcelona Fira Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 24 July 2014

Only about 15 minutes from the airport the upper floors give you a terrific view of the entire city as well as the Medeterranian sea. The sunsets are spectacular from the rooftop pool bar. While there, do try the Mohitos, they're the best I've ever had.

The hotel has a glass exoskelleton and the elevators are also all glass. The hotel is 26 stories high and the restaurant is on the 14th floor so if you have fears of heights, this hotel might not be for you.

The beds were comfortable and the towels were nice. The rooms were clean and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. It is about a one block walk to the Europa Fira Metro station which gets you to wherever you want to go.

The included breakfast was one of the best we've ever had. Americans especially will love this because you get eggs done your way, an omelette station, pastries galore, all kinds of fruits, cheeses, breads, rolls and meats, an espresso machine, cereals, yogurt, pizza (yes, homemade pizza for breakfast!), juices, coffee, bottled water, sparkling wine and great service. It was included in our room fee as I mentioned so I don't know what the cost was.

Our room rate was 132.70 Euros per night including taxes, which we thought was great.

We'd stay here again if we return to Barcelona. All in all a very good hotel experience.

Oh, by the way, this hotel is part of the Marriott family of hotels so we got Marriott Rewards points for staying here as well. A nice bonus.

We enjoyed 3 nights here on 8-11 July 2014 and were very pleased that we chose this hotel for our break, after having worried about whether to book in a more central location. In fact, we found it perfect for us - only 15 minutes (and 20 euros) by taxi from the airport, and right next to the Europa Fira station. From here it was just a 3 stop journey to Espanya station where you can change lines to pretty much anywhere in Barcelona, get on the sight-seeing buses, or go to the Arena (go up to the roof for the view of the MNAC, or see the Magic Fountain show at night (highly recommended)!

The hotel itself is stunning - ultra-modern and truly different. The rooftop pool area is beautiful, with fantastic views of the city and a pool that is big enough to have a proper swim in. My one quibble would be the limited food menu available at the rooftop bar, but the draft beer was cold and drinks cost no more than other tourist prices in Barcelona. We had a superior room on the 16th floor, which was fab - we felt like we had walked into a Clockwork Orange (in a good way)! All white, the room was huge, the bed comfy, and the shower big enough for two. It did take us two days to realise how to operate the blackout blind for the window though - the switch controls are on the wall panel by the bed.

Last but not least the service was fantastic. All the reception staff we dealt with were friendly, with excellent English, with one young man in particular who went out of his way to help us print out our online tickets for la Sagrada Familia. Thank you to him :-)

An excellent base for a trip to Barcelona, and great value for such a memorable break.

First off, I want to start off by saying I only stayed here one night (as I was passing back through Barcelona on my way home). So, I cannot comment on the proximity to the main attractions Barcelona has to offer. If anything I would say it's was further away from the city center. However, I wanted to be close to the airport as I had an early morning flight and this was about a 20-28 euro trip in each direction.

With that said, this hotel has a VERY cool architecture about it. On almost all of the floors, the center of the hotel is open. The rooms are on the outside of a "square cut out" if you can envision this. The rooms themselves have a very niche design but are on the small side.

The pool is near the top and has a GREAT view! It's also a nice setup since there is a outside (open air) full bar adjacent to the pool.

The lobby is nice and matches what I've come to expect from Marriott. I had a problem with another Marriott in Barcelona, so that is why I bring this up. (Check out my reviews for an honest one on the AC Forum in Barcelona.)

Finally, the breakfast is AWESOME! I mean it had a full spread with cold cuts, fresh bread and pastries, cheeses AND of course the usual (eggs, sausages, potatoes, etc.).

If you're looking for a unique getaway in Barcelona, I'd check this hotel out!

We stayed here 2 nights in June 2014. The rooms are lovely. The restaurant upstairs has delicious food. Antonio, the waiter was excellent. The views are amazing. Its right beside the metro and across the road from the mall. Its beautiful. Would definitely stay here again

Room Tip: I like a high floor however don't go out of the door to the stairwell - ie fire escape because...

Such a unique hotel - great rooms, so clean, all decorated in white so nowhere for any 'dirt' to hide! and with the best shower ever. Attentive staff and superb range for breakfast. So easy to access the centre of Barcelona. Hotel rating should be 4.5!

We totally defy anyone not to simply look open-mouthed at their first sight of their room in this incredible hotel.

I'm not going to write volumes, it's not needed. Just realise that this is simply the most stunning hotel I have ever stayed in, and I have stayed in many.

Checklist:

Buy a T10 ticket at the airport and catch the Line 46 bus which stops outside the door about 15 minutes later; no need for expensive transfers and the same ticket works for metro and bus to whizz you into town.

Food - excellent

Staff - Helpful, numerous, and English speaking

Comfort - Huge fluffy pillows, efficient airconditioning, amazing shower.

Don't hesitate, simply do it!

Room Tip: The higher the better

Location out of city centre 15 mins by Metro

Use L46 bus immediately outside international terminal on right €2.15 takes 15 mins to hotel, get off at Ikea and cross road can't miss hotel, bus service fast but a bit bumpy. (Can use T10 ticket for return journey)

Staff always attentive and interested, ask the Navigator on reception any question (within reason lol)

Quick check in (arrived late)

Breakfast excellent selection

Bars are hotel prices for drinks and snacks (expensive)

Brilliant views the higher you go (rooftop bar)

Amazing sunrise through the leaf (in room)

Toiletries and tea and coffee are provided (in our deluxe room)

BIG shopping complex at Gran Via 2 400 metre from hotel take a wheelie case if bringing back heavy goods, food supermarket is in basement, restaurants and snack bars just outside and top floor. McDonalds and other restaurants are closer opposite hotel ask navigator.

The City
T10 ticket good for all travel in the city centre buy in any Metro Station. Metro great way to travel fast (download the app)

Placa Reial off Las Ramblas pleasant square and drinks & food but was expensive for a snack

Book Sagrada Famila (Julia Travel) as queues are horrendous , guider tour lasts 1hr 30 mins

Parc Guell absolutely full book your visit to house and gardens

Casa Mill currently under renovation so nothing to see from outside

Cituadella parc worth a visit for magnificent water feature!

Carabassa restaurant good simple food at good price
