Sheshnag is the first night halt of the Amarnath yatra.
Thousands of Hindus undertake a pilgrimage to Amarnath, at a height of 3888mt, in honour of Lord Shiva. An ice stalagmite formation (symbolic of "shivaling") lasting only a month before it melts is what draws these crowds.
If you start the Amarnath yatra on foot from the Pahalgam end, Sheshnag will be your halt for the first night. View of the emerald coloured Sheshnag lake from afar, boosts you up towards the end of a tiring day. The campsite is not very far from there.
