“Great breakfast, filthy bathroom, uncomfy bed.”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Stayed overnight on a business trip and was so disgusted by the bathroom felt compelled to write a review.
Holiday Inn is not a bargain budget hotel brand and so you wouldn't expect to encounter such a dirty bathroom. (See pics) the shower area was disgusting, there was splashes and marks up the door and I dropped my charger on the floor and the thick dust under the bedside table was unbelievable.
The bed was so uncomfortable, I hardly slept.
Good things about this hotel is the breakfast was really good and the public areas were clean enough and adequate.
I would not stay there again however, despite it's close proximity to the motorway.
Holiday Inn, you used to be a well respected brand but you are fast going down in my estimations.

The hotel is ideally located near to the main motorway network near Leeds, however the hotel is showing it's age with dated furniture and uncomfortable beds. The bedding itself was old and is well overdue replacement (Take your own pillow!) The small Gym and pool were okay, however it gets very busy at peak times and be aware that there are swimming classes most evenings when the pool is closed to everyone else.
The biggest upset for me was the food. Breakfast was okay on the first 2 days however on day 3 there where mouldy strawberries on offer, not very appetising. I also made the mistake of eating at the hotel on the first night of my stay. I think it sums it up when a kitchen struggles to serve an edible stick of celery! The carrot, celery and cucumber sticks served with the meze looked like they had been prepared during the morning and left uncovered, the celery was brown and had soil on it, they hadn't even bothered to wash it. The grilled chicken fillet in my main course was over cooked and as tough as shoe leather, I ate at the Steakhouse over the road which is fantastic! At checkout the only words spoken to me by the receptionist 'room number' the remainder of the checkout process was conducted in complete silence, not even a thank you!

Room Tip: Stay at the `Thorpe Park hotel half a mile up the road!

We paid £50 for a double room so we werent expecting 5 star. The reception and bar area looked nice and cosy, I cant comment on the restaurant as we diidnt eat in there. We were told by reception that breakfast cost £9.00 and have been informed that it is good value for money. The hotel has very long corridors and lots of stairs so definitely not good for anyone with walking difficulties. The rooms were cold but soon warmed up with the manual heating system. There was a kettle, cups, tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Two glasses were provided in the bathroom with plenty of nice white towels. No need to take these down to the gym/ pool as they are provided there. The tv was ancient, approximately 8 channels and the picture was really bad. We had two hair dryers, one attached in the bathroom and one on the dressing table. The bathroom was very tired looking and needed updating but adequate with hand wash and body soap/shampoo provided. Two flat pillows and a thin duvet didn't go down well but a phone call to reception and extra pillows were brought within 5 minutes. We had issues with noisy neighbours but again a phone call to reception and the problem was quickly resolved. The pool is quite small and I wasn't convinced it was very clean but the sauna and steam room were a nice bonus. We didn't eat in the hotel but went to the steak house 5 minutes down the road. You could actually walk there but we took the car as it was very cold. Highly recommend a visit there but either go early or book as it gets very busy. All in all for £50 it was worth the money.

Room Tip: Anyone with walking difficulties must inform hotel on booking so they can allocate a suitable room.

Despite the dire warnings I found this hotel to be OK for my needs - basically somewhere to sleep! The décor is a little tired, there was some mould around the edge of the bath and the TV almost prehistoric but I didn't want a holiday hotel. I do think the £18 allowance for your meal is a little misleading as in practice it will only allow a main to be ordered before you dip your hand into your pocket. If you want a holiday or luxury stay then don't bother but most of the guests I saw were just passing through.

Stayed for one night while on shopping trip to Leeds. The hotel is definitely quirky with its different levels. What I liked was the professionalism of the staff and their welcoming attitude.
Although the hotel was very busy we were served our meal very quickly. Quality and portions were excellent. We were amazed at how many staff were on duty at breakfast. What a change frm a lot of hotels. Friendly smiling faces made this a pleasurable experience.
Would definitely go again.

Very helpful staff even though we did not arrive until early evening. I was on a coach trip and the staff swiftly gave out room numbers and keys, also suggested moving the coach closer to our accommodation so that we did not have far to go and importantly, not through reception.
The rooms were more than adequate and very clean and plenty of hot water at all times.
Evening meal was excellent with plenty of choice for all courses. Breakfast was equally good.
As we were a group of six tables were swiftly put together to accommodate us all together. Nothing was too much trouble. We were not moved off from our table while they were setting up the tables for the breakfast the following morning. In fact we had not even noticed them laying the rest of the tables. The staff were always smiling and helpful.

Room Tip: The rooms were set away from the main areas to keep them quiet. So all rooms were well placed. Meeti...
