“Shared room with insects and grime”
Reviewed 18 February 2011

took the wife to our old home town where we know the Hilton was a great place, Now been taken over by Holiday inn, we booked a 2 night saver package that included breakfasts and 1 dinner. arrived for 3pm, bit late check in , should be earlier, given the key and found our room. very bright in the room so i drew the curtains, masses of cobwebs fell down on my head, went into the bathroom, the floor was stained with dried unrine, the bath seals and shower were wet with mould and mildew, dried soap scum on the tiled walls, very old bath with worn fittings and grab rail black with mould. i heard wife shout !! found her sat on the bed pointing to silverfish insects running around the carpet, removed the bedside table to find family of insects in the mounds of filth and dirt that had not beed cleaned for years. dust everywhere on surfaces, nothing supplied such as shower hat, or pack of biscuits. the bed sheets were clean but grey grubby through werar and tear. had enough. went to complain,. The duty manager appeared and agreed the room was dirty and upgraded us to a bit bigger room, this had just the dust , quite a lot of it, the same tired bathroom that we didnt use to bath, at least the swimming pool got us clean ! Food at dinner was rather bland and not that hot, Breakfast, everything you could want, but serve yourself , pink bacon, pink sausages, hard fried eggs, watery scrambled eggs, not nice at all. i noticed that for £25 extra you can upgrade your room to include 1 hour wi fi, not even free in this day and age, juice and bathrobes. thought they should have given us that upgrade. on return, i wrote to HI customer services, got the standar apology letter and £20 in vouchers to spend, you guessed it, in any of there hotels. Very dirty , ok for business folk who pay on the company , not for people wanting a short break.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on Trip Advisor following your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Leeds-Garforth in which you detail your dissatisfaction with the state of your room during your recent stay with us. Please be assured that this is not our usual level of service.

Firstly and most importantly, may we apologise most sincerely for the problems which you encountered during your visit. We have carried out a full investigation, including speaking with the Head Housekeeper who has asked for their apologies to be extended to you. We would confirm that corrective action has taken place and re-training carried out.

As previously stated, this was a genuine isolated incident and extremely unlike us not to have exceptionally high standards. We assure you that the necessary corrective steps have been taken so that Housekeeping will be more vigilant in checking rooms before guests’ arrival.

Thank you again for your contact and for the time you have taken to inform us of your experience. We sincerely hope that you will give us the opportunity to serve you in the future should your travel bring you back to the Leeds area again.

We got this hotel at a very good rate, we chose it as a base for exploring York and the Dales.
The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself was pretty much Holiday inn standard.
The one thing I would like to comment on, because it has been a bug-bare of mine for a while as I stop in Holiday Inns quite regularly.
We were offered breakfast, if we booked it the night before, for £8.50, as opposed to around £13.50 for the 'normal' rate. We though this reasonable amount so we booked it and I must say the breakfast for both quality and choice was very good. However I feel the £13.50 that Holiday Inns 'normally' charge for a breakfast (£27.00 for a couple) is a little excessive and this could be addressed so a more reasonable'normal' rate could apply.
On the whole, nice hotel, friendly staff, stay and enjoy !!

Had a one night weekend stay with 2 young children, paid £60 Bed & Breakfast for all four of us staying in one room. I agree with some of the other reviews the Hotel is looking a bit tired but for one night you can see past that. We had a warm welcome from the Reception staff who made of fuss of the children, which was nice. The room was adequate for one night, we made use of the swimmong pool in the afternoon and following morning, not a massive pool but ideal for small children. We had a bar meal in the evening was fine and value for money, good service given by the bar staff. Breakfast offered a good selection of hot and cold food, buffet style, which suits families with small children. Overall a pleaseant one night stay with good service.

Myself an my husband have stayed at this hotel numerious times in 2008/2009 as we wanted to rate the hotel as we were looking for somewhere to hold our wedding.
The moment you walk into the hotel you are greeted by friendly reception staff. We were checked into our room within 5 minutes and headed firstly down to the bar for a few drinks. The hotel itself has a lovely patio area outside and also a large grassed area away from the main road which was perfect for our photos. When we got married at the hotel in september 2009 we were given a complimentary executive room which was extremely spacious an had a mini bar included for us. The room was on a bed and basis and that was at a self service station in the main restuarant which was nice as you could get what you wanted from a full cooked english breakfast to croissants, toast, cereals, yoghurts, tea, coffee and juices were also included.
Our wedding planner at the hotel was a lady named jean who was amazing when it came to organising our wedding. She was always on hand at to answer any of our questions or give us advise on anything we were unsure of. Jean and the hotel staff made our wedding day perfect and although we were unable to make it back for our first wedding anniversary we are determind to make it back for our 2nd this year!
I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to stay in a perfect hotel close to leeds and york but not in the hustle and bustle of the city centre or anyone wanting to hold their wedding/reception at the holiday inn.
I am very much looking forward to returning!

Thank you for your comments following your stay. As you have remarked our hotel is well located on the outskirts of Leeds yet not far from the city centre and the motorway network so it is the perfect location for both the business traveller or for a weekend leisure break.
It was great to hear that you received and warm and friendly greeting from all our staff and that you were very satisfied with both your bedroom and the breakfast that you had whilst visiting us.
As you stated we are very fortunate to have a beautiful patio area along with a large grassed area just outside the hotel which make for wonderful photographs for weddings, birthdays or other special occasions. We also have a dedicated Special Events team here at the hotel that help guests with the planning and organising of their special occasion and so make it hassle free.
Thank you once again for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel.

I stayed here a couple of times while working in Leeds. It is convenient for the east side of Leeds and is easy to get to off the M1.

I always found the decor of the hotel very dark but generally clean and the beds were comfortable giving me a pleasant stretch out. Breakfasts were fine.

We were visiting York at short notice and found all the local hotels booked or very expensive. Garforth is only a 25 minute drive away so we booked this hotel for one night. The reception staff were very welcoming and the room clean and presentable. The hotel layout is rather rambling, but apart from that it was hard to fault. Breakfast and free parking were included in the price. It does not pretend to be the Ritz or the Dorcester, but what they do is good value.

This is a really expensive hotel for what you get. Maybe they should think about investing some of the money into cleaning the place up. My bathroom was disgusting it had mold everywhere hair from previous guests. The food was bland and the restaurant staff were clueless they kept emerging with the wrong food, the food was very poor. The waiter recommended the chicken skewers, I knew why when they had arrived, they were dry and tasted bland, I think they had made alot and could not get rid of them. Some of the staff couldnt speak english and it was fustrating trying to understand them. Breakfast was good and the staff were ok. Good job the company paid I would go there if somewhere close is available.
