“Outstanding place to stay”

Everything about this place says "come back". The staff, the food and the ambiance are just so right. Don't tell anyone else, leave this delightful place to those of us who have discovered this great place to relax.

If you like small hotels where you are treated as a friend rather than a mere client you will love it here. Hans and the rest of the staff really go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Oberau is a small village so don't expect nightlife especially not outside the ski season though Hans provided entertainment on three evenings (a musical duo, complimentary cocktails followed by a film in English and a wine tasting which was free of charge to hotel guests.) The latter was particularly interesting as he is so knowledgeable about wine and is in addition such an amusing story teller.
Breakfast on a morning was always plentiful with a large array of breads, cereals, yoghurt, fruit, eggs, cheese and cold meats. We were on a walking package with Inghams and the hotel seemed happy to bring forward the breakfast time when we had an early start. A special mention here goes to Sandra the breakfast waitress who was always most pleasant and obliging even when, at times, she seemed rushed off her feet. Menus for the evening meal (4 courses with three choices of main) were on the tables in the morning. On the day we left Hans was up early to see we got some breakfast before we went. He even offered the transfer driver a coffee so we could finish our drinks!
The only thing that disappointed us was the weather - rain from Monday to Thursday morning. Fortunately we had full waterproof clothing and walked regardless but we did miss out on some spectacular views and some of the walks had to be modified for safety reasons. The Wildschoenau walking programme was very good indeed (5 guided walks) and the guide herself, a local girl called Sonja, was first rate. We are tempted to do the same package again at a time when the weather is better. If we do we will be adding our number to the very many repeat guests at the Kellerwirt.

If you want the opportunity to enjoy Austria while you're skiing or walking, this is the place to stay! I feel fortunate to have chosen a 7 night stay at the Kellerwirt during a recent ski holiday. The Kellerwirt is a gem in the middle of three ski areas, with access to the ski bus right outside your front door! The welcome from Hans and Claudia was warm, and I always felt that the family and their staff wanted their guests to have the best time possible. Hans invited the guests to an informative wine tasting one evening, and a couple of pre-dinner drinks with other guests on another. I had a lovely room with a terrace and a view of the mountains in Niederau. The food is excellent and abundant!
It snowed, the sun came out, and the sky turned blue. As I left they were getting ready for Easter with the charm and understated elegance that is the Kellerwirt. I will be back to ski, and will definitely return to experience the summer here too.

We've only given the Kellerwirt 5 stars because I can't give it more. Hans, Claudia and EVERYBODY who works there are the most friendly, helpful people you could wish to meet. We stayed for skiing on a half board basis, and frankly the food was so good and plentiful, we hardly needed to eat during the day. All the other guests we talked to were either returning guests (some even leave their ski equipment there for the year) or said they would be back and that includes us. Fantastic. If you read this Hans, thank you thank you thank you. See you soon.

Stayed there in a big party on ski trip (Children aged 6 to 50) The hotel made the trip. From the welcome at midnight on first day to leaving we were treated like royalty, from the food to advice, the wine tastings to the lifts around the valley I could not fault the hotel. Highly recommended.
