Meson San Martin situated in the Plaza de Espana No.6 tel. 957 525 131, is a restaurant you just cannot miss. It is closed on Thursdays which was disappointing for me as after visiting it for the first time I had made my mind up to celebrate my birthday there. In any case I did return for a second meal which I enjoyed as much as my first repeating one of the dishes I had been served before.
This was a special spinach grown locally called Colleja – the dish revuelto de Colleja. This consisted of spinach with pine kernels, shrimps and Spanish ham scrambled with eggs. It was out of this world! We followed this by Bacalao en Cazuela con Gambones y almejas, another first for us and scrumptious. A beautiful, succulent cod filet with clams, prawns and red pepper cooked in oil in its own sauce. Perhaps a bit rich for the English palate but absolutely delicious for those enjoying extra virgin olive oil.
During our second visit we repeated the Spinach meal as main course and enjoyed as starters the Almejas Marinera, huge clams cooked in a tomato cream sauce. My husband opted for roasted shoulder of lamb which was tender, juicy and very
'moreish' this was served with little potatoes.
The desserts are equally delightful. The Catalan Cream almost like a crème Brulee was excellent and the chocolate mousse light and excellent.
The owner, an extremely nice and pleasant person is also the chef and so very proud of what he serves. It is no wonder that the ex King of Spain and family patronise this place. The service is excellent. The wine good and price recommendable.
A must when in Cabra!
