I went because the village is meant to be almost exclusively Irish speaking. They would not reply in Irish when I spoke in it. Often they seemed to give a dismissive look when I tried. Only signs in the hotel (besides the name) in Irish were for toilets and the restaurant. Wifi only works in the lobby and part of the pub. They’re always crowded with others, and there are few power points.

Breakfast was very good. The room was clean and comfortable. The village was nice, if a bit crowded with cars. Most of the village seemed to be car park.

Attended a function in loch altan. There were nearly 200 at it. Food was excellent, and speedily served. The apple pie was just like mother used to make, with plenty of apples. Had supper in Bar later. The food here was different and tasty. The owner/manager was around all the time, which was good to see. The hotel & toilets were very clean, and staff were happy to help in any way they could. Great spot.

Room Tip: Didn't stay in hotel.

My husband and I recently spent 3 nights at the Loch Altan. The foyer and bedroom were comfortable and attractively furnished. The staff were all friendly and welcoming and there was a pleasant family atmosphere. There was a high standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel.

We stayed bed and breakfast and had one evening meal in the bar. We were rather disappointed with the breakfast menu. The buffet table offered only a choice of 4 cereals, 2 juices, prunes and tinned grapefruit segments. Porridge could also be ordered. Other hotels and good B&B's where we have stayed in Ireland for this price and even less have had cheese, yoghourt and fresh fruit on offer on the buffet table. The cooked breakfast was ample but unimaginative. We had one meal in the bar and that was disappointing. The earlier reviewer of the baked potato was luckier than I was. Mine was insipid and tasted as if it had been reheated. My husband's steakburger was a large, overcooked ball of meat in a bap. In all fairness, though, our impressions of bar food at lunchtime or evenings anywhere else in the North Donegall area were not great either.

The hotel is in a beautiful area but unfortunately it has no grounds around it so there is nowhere to sit and relax when the weather is fine.

Room Tip: Although the hotel is located right alongside a busy main road with heavy traffic during the day, it...

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend wedding. On arrival the first night, we decided to have something light to eat for "supper". We ate in the bar, and had a baked potato with cheese and salad. All I can say is when they serve something this simple with such presentation and such great flavour, well done! The breakfasts were very tasty, not greasy. The location is lovely and quiet, but at least there is a shop within a minute walk in case you need those little "bits" when away from home for a few days. The food at the wedding was astounding. The vegetable soup was gorgeous, and the Lamb shank for main course was falling off the bone. The staff are very friendly and professional.

Room Tip: As this hotel is in a quiet village, even the front rooms are lovely and quiet.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights while attending a wedding. The hotel is owner run, well organised and very friendly. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The wedding itself was a great occasion and the staff helped make it such a good day.
The food in the restaurant, at the wedding and for breakfast was delicious.
Hopefully next time well get a chance to explore the locality further.

Just spent a wonderfully relaxing May bank holiday weekend in Gortahork (Gort a Choirce) in County Donegal. First night was spent in Ostan Loch Altan and other nights were spent self catering. The hotel is right in the heart of the village, next to the inlet so there is a lovely sea view. Rooms are comfortable, not 5 star modern, but had a lovely nights sleep. Breakfast was perfect with the sea view, all needs were catered for. Staff were very friendly. The hotel is in a Gaeltacht area and it was great to hear the "cupla focal". The village was very quiet at the weekend which was great for us but still felt it was a pity it doesn't get more tourists as it is in such a lovely spot. It is a great area for walks, beaches, mountains etc. I know it is a distance away but still can't understand why more people don't visit. They are missing out badly.

Room Tip: Ask for room either facing to the front or with a seaview, some rooms have no view

Atttended a weddding here and stayed on the 2 night package with dinner, the hotel is very friendly and would have no problems recommending to friends. The room has clean and the only problem we had was trying to get the shower to the correct temperature. The meals were fab, far too much food and the service was friendly.

The wedding was a credit to this hotel, the meal was fantastic and the day into evening went so quick. Thanks to all at this hotel for a very comfortable stay!!

Thank you for taking the time to write your review which I found to be fair and balanced.
I regret that your dining experience has not been to your satisfaction, particularly on the busy days.
As you know, having worked in the food business as you mentioned in your review, it is very difficult to judge how busy bar food will be on any particular day as people arrive without a reservation and very often they all seem to arrive at the same time. There are 3 entrances to our bar, lounge and foyer area which adds to the difficulty. It is much easier to manage in the restaurant as most of our clientele are pre-booked.
I hope that you will visit us again in the near future. I look forward to meeting with you

Kindest regards

Seán Mc Elwee
