This is our favourite hotel when we travel up north. Delighted to find it being refurbished as the 80's look was it's only downfall previously. Superior rooms are simply but elegantly furnished & the little extras make it worth paying just that little bit more - people buying on Groupon should take note that you get what you pay for! The leisure facilities are compact but always clean and we use them on every visit. We can highly recommend the restaurant as the food is superb. The staff are very friendly and are always happy to help in any way they can. A great base for visits to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park , The Hepworth and taking in Rugby League games - easy to get to quite a few grounds from here.

Agree with some of the reviews that it can be a bit noisy if there is a function but we have always been fortunate enough to get a room away from the centre. Our advice would be to note in the comments that your preference is away from function rooms when making your booking.

Room Tip: Recommend area around 110 -124 as being the quieter ones in our experience

Me and my mum stayed here in June for one night with the groupon deal. For £59 it was a great deal. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Th only disappointment was the steam room been broken but we made good use of the other facilities. Overall a nice relaxing stay. I am going again this weekend with my boyfriend and really looking forward to it :)

Spent two nights at the hotel as a base for the tour de France. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Room comfortable and not dated. Would say not suitable for more mature people due to loud music at night in the function rooms. But overall a great couple of nights.

Me and the missus stayed here a couple of nights on a Groupon deal. The deal was good enough £89 for 2 nights B&B plus a meal on 1 night! Room was fine, very nice in fact, staff were good, especially Paul in charge of dinner and Josie on reception, but breakfast staff we a little 'away-with-the-fairies'!.
So, all good so far, then there is the food, all of which, the 3 courses we had were all 'cooked' well, but, the menu was rubbish!!!! We were staying away for my birthday and as foodies, we wanted a really nice meal and the options were poor. I went for a burger and the wife had a pork steak!!!! ..... the main menu must be better but we had a 'poor-man's' menu because we were on a Groupon deal..... shocking that!!!! ......... breakfast was fabulous mind you!!!

We stayed at the Cedar Court for one night on the 20th June 2014. Our visit started well enough and the reception staff were friendly and efficient, making our booking in and room allocation smooth.

Unfortunately, things didn't live up to our expectation.

The room we were allocated was a poor, split wall paper and faded carpet and a phone that had seen better days. We tried to ring through to the Spa but the line was so awful it was difficult to hear. The bathroom was OK but we found on closer inspection that there was dust in several places that clearly hadn't been dealt with and also the soap dishes were dirty.

We ate in the bar and the service was good - the food was nice too.

We were a little disappointed with the Spa - the steam room was out of order and the female changing room was grubby. The floor area was dirty and the shower cubicle floors were disgusting - soap, hair and scum. Not nice.

At around 3.00am we were woken by noise and shouting from the guests in the bedroom next door and this continued until past 5.00am. So not a good nights sleep unfortunately and to top this we had a lousy breakfast experience.

The staff on breakfast duty were disorganised and discourteous. We were met by a female member of staff on our arrival for breakfast - she asked us if we would like tea or coffee and then showed us to a table. After this we had no other contact with the staff in regards to any other requirements we may have had - as there were menu items that needed to be cooked on request.

We were completely ignored and had to beckon someone over to ask for poached eggs. We felt like we were asking for something out of the ordinary by the manner in which this was acknowledged - bordering on rudeness. When the eggs finally arrived - it took forever, they were inedible. We complained to a waiter who asked if we'd requested how we wanted the eggs to be cooked. No we hadn't! Poached eggs are poached for goodness sake. The whole experience was frustrating and very annoying and it's possibly the worst breakfast experience we've had to date.

Needless to say on checking out we weren't given the opportunity to highlight the issues I've described as reception was very busy and we were booked out very quickly - we weren't even asked if we'd enjoyed our stay.

Needless to say we won't be using Cedar Court Wakefield again.

The visit started well enough, it was our anniversary and we had purchased through Groupon. We were met at reception by friendly staff. The room was good although the brief struggle with the most basic of instructions with the Sky remote proved the only real down point of the weekend. Things could only get better lol. On arrival we had noted that there was a Takethat tribute on that evening and decided after seeing a musicless bar area that we would attend for the price of £15 each which, at the time seemed a bit excessive, as we couldnt go up there until 9.30. We were to be proved wrong. We went up at 9.30 just as the multiple Hen do meals had finished, and although we were just shoved at the back on a table with 2 other couples that were also residents at the hotel....... this was to be a night of great company, many laughs and the friendliest bar staff!! which was a surprise that was unexpected. Thanks to Daz and Raz, as this was the first time a function was opened up to residents of the hotel. Great night and the food was also good in the restaurant too!!!

...don't worry, we're not rowdy hens! We stayed for the weekend as they had a tribute night (in this case, a Take That one), we found it excellent value for money. The meal was very nice and the entertainment excellent too. The only gripe we did have was to do with the booking- the hotel was not very good at communicating, and we had to chase up booking and payment confirmations which was frustrating and time consuming, so just be aware of that, but all in all, a good hotel with a well organised weekend, and the staff were particularly friendly and helpful!
