“bad experience”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Stayed at this hotel on Sunday 20th July. Room was disappointing (standard double). Wallpaper coming away in places. Base of bed badly stained and visible. Pillows uncomfortable, and 3 small holes in hand towel. Arrived for dinner in restaurant and they were short staffed due to a managers leaving do. Waited 45 mins for starter as there was a mix up with order. As my husband is a diabetic this was a bit of a worry as he had had his insulin thinking he would have food within 15mins. We had to ask waitress and were given a bowl of salad from the chef as an apology. Ordered rose wine then was told none was chilled so changed order to prosecco. This was opened before coming to the table, was in an ice bucket but placed on table and told to help yourself. Both were going to order chicken but only one portion available. This was just as well as was bland and stringy. Breakfast was better. We stayed at the cedar court in huddersfield on the Thursday and this was a pleasant stay. The wakefield hotel does not warrant a 4 star. Very disappointed.

Dear Mal N
Thank you for the feedback and I am sorry we got this stay wrong.
Events outside of the hotel should have had no impact on your stay and this is being addressed with the team accordingly. I believe your experiences to be in the main, isolated.
Kind regards
Jonathan

The hotel was lovely, great member of staff on reception who was very helpful.

We traveled almost 2 hours to get there.

We had a lovely morning in the pool and jacuzzi and some treatments with the beauty therapist.

We booked to go to the entertainment on the evening which was 70's, 80's and 90's pop music. Whilst eating our meals we had songs in repeat but the dj was not about to change them so we left it and carried on enjoying our night.

When he turned up at 9:30 he carried on playing the same songs so one of our friends went and told him politely they had already been played twice. Not only did he stop the music to look for some more tracks but he made a very rude and embarrassing speech against one member of our group in front of everyone in the room pointing out the colour of her top and the table she was sitting on. He went on making comments all night.

We had a wonderful time and even went on to enjoy our evening ignoring what was being said.

The hotel itself was lovely and I could not fault it. But I would not go back for any entertainment if he was still working there. Such a shame.

Dear Amyleigh19
Thank you for the positive feedback on the hotel and the overall visit.
I am sorry if the DJ has not lived up to expectations, we have used the same booking agent now for a number of years with positive feeback in the main, so we will pick this up with them and look to move forward.
We do hope we will see you again in the future.
Kind regards
Jonathan

Had a very special event held at the lovely cedar court hotel
But sadly this was spoilt by a very unprofessional and downright rude member of staff acting as the dj
For this reason I would not recommend this hotel for any sort of party night
Evening was ruined for my friends and I who were singled out by this rude member if staff
Sack the dj and we will be back

A very nice hotel indeed. Friendly staff, excellent food and a great location. The room was spacious and cleaning staff were very attentive. You are minutes away from pugney country park which is an excellent day out and that puts you within walking distance of sandal castle where you get an amazing view of the local landscape. You are also close to the town centre and a retail park that has a cinema and all your favourite fast food outlets. The swimming pool was nice and clean just a little small, the jacuzzi was very relaxing and hotel guests access them for free. Had some slight issues with the groupon voucher we were using but they made it their issue, not ours. Brilliant overall, would definitely go again.

This is our favourite hotel when we travel up north. Delighted to find it being refurbished as the 80's look was it's only downfall previously. Superior rooms are simply but elegantly furnished & the little extras make it worth paying just that little bit more - people buying on Groupon should take note that you get what you pay for! The leisure facilities are compact but always clean and we use them on every visit. We can highly recommend the restaurant as the food is superb. The staff are very friendly and are always happy to help in any way they can. A great base for visits to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park , The Hepworth and taking in Rugby League games - easy to get to quite a few grounds from here.

Agree with some of the reviews that it can be a bit noisy if there is a function but we have always been fortunate enough to get a room away from the centre. Our advice would be to note in the comments that your preference is away from function rooms when making your booking.

Room Tip: Recommend area around 110 -124 as being the quieter ones in our experience

Me and my mum stayed here in June for one night with the groupon deal. For £59 it was a great deal. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Th only disappointment was the steam room been broken but we made good use of the other facilities. Overall a nice relaxing stay. I am going again this weekend with my boyfriend and really looking forward to it :)

Spent two nights at the hotel as a base for the tour de France. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Room comfortable and not dated. Would say not suitable for more mature people due to loud music at night in the function rooms. But overall a great couple of nights.
