“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2014 via mobile

This long established place has been a part of the local scene for a very long time and it's good to see that it's still delivering. Pleasant surroundings, courteous staff and an honest to goodness, no nonsense menu all add up to a worthwhile place to visit. Called in with a friend for Sunday lunch and we were both well satisfied with what we had. My chicken in white sauce was well cooked and served with tasty veg and potatoes. Friend's beef was delicious too, and he had no complaints either. Not expensive, so makes a good little venue for Sunday lunch. I'm sure its equally good the rest of the week too! Definitely a reliable choice!

“good food bad staff”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2014

food was typical pub grub and was very nice however the staff let the place down
one girl in particular was quite rude and made us feel as if we were an inconvenience rather than welcomed customers. she really made me feel quite uncomfortable and if i was in different company i would have walked out.

“Awful - didnt think places like this existed anymore”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2014

Its taking a very long time but the food scene in northern ireland is slowly improving. Still far too many overpriced restaurants in belfast that think theyre better than they actually are. i blame the tv chef phenomenon.

even pub grub has started to improve. so it beggars belief that places like ellie mays seems stuck in the 70s. poor food - i'll not bore with the detail. in the short time i was there it looked like staff relations werent good either. do people not care - is that why the food is grim?

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2014 via mobile

I visited Ellie Mays recently and found the restaurant to be very cold. There was a small wall heater on when we arrived but they switched it off by the time we were eating our main course. We requested it to be turned on again as it was such a cold day and we sitting beside the door but the waitress said it couldn't be switched on again! Our meal was very overcooked and tasteless. After the meal we ordered calypso coffees and when they arrived the waitress said that there was already two sugars in the coffees but she would get more if we wanted it. I told her that we didn't take sugar but she said that they had to put sugar in it to make the cream float!!!! Overall a very disappointing experience and not one which we will be repeating in the near future. Sorry Ellie mays, nice pub, pity it isn't managed a bit better.

“A warm glow on a cold day”

Great little eatery. Fresh food all served with a smile and on occasions a little Irish folk music. Defiantly the place to stop on a cold winters day
