We stayed at the Denise apartments in August/September 2011 for one week. It was a last minute holiday and was a bargain price. My expectations were not too high and I was hoping for a clean and comfortable room and a friendly welcome. We were not disappointed.
The apartments are run by Nikos, Effie and their family. They are warm and welcoming hosts. Quite frankly their hospitality is their greatest asset. I had read some of the reviews and was a bit worried that service might be based on whether you are a returning guest. This was clearly not the case. There were some returning guests staying at the apartments and we were given the same level of service as them, which was very high. The food served at the bar was of high quality and reasonably priced. There was entertainment most nights. We are not big drinkers but did spend a couple of nights around the bar and were made to feel included. Our biggest disappointment was that the Greek night was every other week, which we missed.
The rooms are fairly basic and the cooking facilities are limited. Although, there was 7 of us in total and we did manage on a couple of occasions to make a meal for all of us in one of our apartments. The rooms were spotless and cleaned pretty much daily. Air con was extra, but this was clear on the olympic holidays website. I think this is fairly standard in Greece, particularly in budget accommodation. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The pool is clean and there are plenty of sun beds.
The town is a 15 minute walk or a couple of minutes on a bike. We hired bikes for most of the week and cycled pretty much everywhere. The hot spring in Thermes is worth a visit, although cycling there is not for the faint hearted. The bus stops at the end of the road from the apartments. We also cycled to Tigkaki, which has a beautiful sandy beach and watersports.
We will definitely return to the Denise apartments in the future.
