“Sophia Beach in May”
Reviewed 19 July 2008

We stayed at the Sofia Beach this May and to be fair it was a cheap holiday and the flights which were on Thomas Cooks own planes were hard to fault.
When we arrived on the transfer coach we turned into a very run down road and joked that this would be our hotel and you guessed it it was!! The road contained a derelict house with a couple of gypsy families squatting in it and the Lambi area was very run down. We wondered what we had done. The hotel we found to be very clean, however we were on our fourth kettle before we got a working one. The smoke alarm beeped constantly and when no one came to fix it after three days we took the battery out ourselves! However it was clean and the pool was clean although freezing and not as good as the pics as the jacuzzi was empty! When we trekked the 20min walk into Kos town we were impressed with it. The restaurant staff in Lambi were lovely especially in the Blue Phoenix and one opposite the hotel the name of which we forget.
The beach was shingly and disppointing as there were broken bottles and the blue flag was hanging in tatters on the pole. Maybe it was just because it was early season.
The weather however was amazing 30 every day sun all day. Having said this the week before we arrived was very stormy and less warm than the mini heatwave Britain was having! This is just luck though.
If you go, don't expect the world and you won't be disappointed. just look up at the cloudless blue sky!!

I have been to this hotel twice, once with a friend and her family and once with the girls.
The first time we came we had such a good time, the hotel is easy going and helpful and the food at the pool bar is very nice - Especiall club sandwich :)
So we decieded to book up the same place for the girls to go as it is a sahort walk to beach and also short walk to strip. It is perfect for either families or young people. Loved it! x

Well were do i start

We arived at sophia beach at about noon.
the weather was lovely, too bad i can't say the same about the hotel.
After driving through the boring and deserted island of Kos for almost an hour we pulled up and entered the reception.
we were given our keys and made our way to our room on the second floor.
the rooms were a good size but lacked in new furniture and it was less than clean.
we had only 2 sheets although there was 4 of us and no duvets.
we also heard of some rooms that had been given wet sheets already on there beds.
The Kitchen Had a small fridge with the last residents food and drink.
throughout our stay we constantly had to ask for towel, and when recieved they were dirty.
I think that sophia beach need to invest in new furniture and sheets and towels as many were ripped nd had holes.

The Pool Was average but sometimes got dirty because of the bad weather that came towards the end of the week.
there was a small cafe next to the pool run by a man named george who often got aggresive towards people for eating by the pool.
i would say the pool was to small for the amount of people using it and was freezing cold trust me.

it was a 20 min walk to kos town wich was full of the touristy shops and resturants as every holiday resourt.
But there were some great places to eat. such as a small chinease place on the corner near the harbour.
i recomend not going to places were people stand outiside and pull you in.

I found kos to be a bit dead but to be fair we went at the end of the season.
sophia beach is okay for friends to stay a week but i wouldnt recomend to couples or familys with older children for there is little to do.
sophia beach is worth £200 but i wouldn't pay more.

Iv'e read a few reviews where people have complained about rooms being in a filthy condition. I have to say, We stayed in room 221 and it was very clean. The only thing i could fault was the rusty old fridge although it did work well.

Sophia on reception was charming at all times with us giving us some good advise and idea's on where to visit. Billy the night receptionist was fantastic too, cracking jokes for as long has you would stand and listen.

Sadly, thats all the good things i can say.
George, The barman and Hotel owner reminds me of Manuel from Faulty Towers, very erractic. Although i kinda got on ok with him there were plenty he upset during the week, No good for customer relations.

Only one night of Entertainment took place all week with a BBQ and Karaoke and that was it, nothing else to do.

I think the Sophia Beach Aparthotel needs a swift kick up the backside. New cleaning staff by the sounds of other people's reviews, A few smiles in the right places and a bit more customer care. The onsite shop was emptied and closed down on Wednesday morning, Very rude when the last guests don't leave until Thursday night.
If i could give any advice to anyone it would be to George the owner..... George, when you get a spare 10 mins. Pop next door and see George and Barbara at The Alice Springs Hotel. See how they do it and take a leaf from their book.

We arrived at Sophia Beach Aparthotel Kos Lambi Greece, late at night after a very pleasant flight. On arrival we were given the key to room 107 which was downstairs. When we entered the room we didn't think it looked too bad, apart from the beds not being made properly (they had put the bottom sheet on but just left the top sheet folded on top, which is not good when you get in late at night and have to make your own bed) until we went into the bathroom which was awful with mould around the window, bath and on the bottom of the shower curtain, you could not use the shower properly because it would not fit into it's rest.

When we saw how near the Pool and Pool Bar we were, we could not believe it, we could not even open the one set of curtains because the sun-beds were up against our window. We had no privacy on our balcony/patio because everyone came down the steps from the pool right alongside it and we had to close those curtains and doors when we were getting dressed.

In the night we had all the noise from the Pool Bar, with the widescreen television and the karioke. We were very unhappy and did not unpack because we thought we would ask to be moved in the morning. I did not sleep that night, what with the Pool bar noise then some sort mechanical noise then gushing water ( probably something to do with the pool).

In the morning we went straight to reception and asked to be moved but the receptionist was very unhelpful and said she was full and had no available rooms. So we went to the rep/courier thinking she might move us to a more suitable hotel but she was equally unhelpful and we could see we were getting nowhere, so we went out and bought some bleach and cleaned the bathroom ourselves. We also told our rep that the TV had lost the volume button and we needed a better pillow on my bed but she did nothing. So we spent as little time as possible at the apartment and did not use any of the facilities which were few anyway and ate out because the cooking equipment was very basic.
I really think that these apartments are not worthy of the 3 star + rating they have been given in the brochure. .

Me and my parents have just come back from a week in kos and we stayed at sophia beach. I recommended the hotel/appartments to my parents this year as i stayed there last year with 7 of my friends for two weeks. I was very suprised when i read the bad write ups on sophia beach because both times i have stayed here i have had no problems at all with my accomadation or the staff. Infact the staff could not have been more welcoming to all of us. All my family and friends that have stayed here would defonatly go back again and recomend it to other friends and family. To people who have wrote bad reports i think that there is just no satisfing some people!

We have just come back from a weeks stay at Sophia Beach, and we couldn't be more happy. After reading bad reviews we were wondering what we had let ourselves in for, especially when told our room was downstairs (as some other reviewers had called it the basement!!) But the apartment was very spacious and clean, and we got plenty of sun on our balcony, i really wouldn't call it a basement, and the hallway was always well lit. The cleaners were in every day apart from Sunday! Sophia was lovely on reception, and nothing was too much trouble for her. George was a funny character, it takes a while to get used to his sense of humour!Lambi itself is lovely, with plenty of restaurants and bars. We especially recommend the palace and efkalipty for eating out, the food is excellent and the people are friendly. The beach is a 2 min walk away, and not that shingly as some people claim. Kos town is a 15 min walk away, and is very busy but really nice.Overall a brilliant holiday and we will be going back to Sophia Beach next year.
