“Peaceful, relaxing stay and a warm welcome!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2012

Just got back from a lovely week at the Ampavris apartments with my wife and two kids under 4. We had an apartment at the back of the complex and found it nice and quiet, with no unwanted noise - perfect! The rooms themselves were compact but just about gave enough space for the 4 of us. The decor was fine - basic but clean and well maintained. The balcony was too small for 4 of us to sit out comfortably but would be fine for a couple. The bathroom was nice other than the tiny bath so we tended to use the shower. The apartments were lacking in a few of the basics - toaster, chopping board and broom, etc but very clean and secure.

The staff at the apartments were always friendly, helpful and welcoming. George quickly got the air conditioning set up for us - we needed it in the June heat, especially at night. It was great value at only EUR35 for the week.

The pool area was great! The pool itself was quite big, with a baby pool and Jacuzzi attached. We had great fun splashing around in the pool and there were always loungers free with shade. The bar area was good too with the usual selection of drinks and snacks. The playground was a bit disappointing compared with larger family resorts that we've visited - just a set of swings really, but better than nothing.

The location of the apartments is pretty good - about 15 mins walk into Kos town, but on a narrow road which was a bit hazardous at times with cars and mopeds flying past! The kids enjoyed the walk into town though as we could flower and butterfly spot. We had to stop and look at the local chickens a few times and the kids enjoyed learning how to speak cockerel! When you get to the main road you turn right to go to the 'new' town and harbour or left to go to the 'old' town.

I wish we'd know about the old town when we first arrived! From our experience the better restaurants were in the old town - we'd particularly recommend the Otto e Mezzo Italian restaurant for a delicious Italian meal. It was a bit more expensive than the many 'cafes' we visited but the service and food were a cut above. It's a shame about the amount of hassle from waiters trying to get you into their cafes - it's something that would put me off further visits to Greece as it's nice to enjoy a more laid back walk through town.

Kos town is beautiful, the beaches are a bit shingly, but the further out of town you go, the cheaper the sun beds! The town has lots of bike rental places, and Kos town has a really extensive bike path so you wouldn't have to fight with the local traffic too much. There are a lot of ruins to look around so it might be worth getting a guide book so you know where and what things are.

All in all, I would definitely recommend Kos town to families and couples. And I would definitely recommend the Ampavris to anyone on a tight budget, looking for a quiet location who doesn't need the extra luxuries and facilities provided by bigger hotels. The Ampavris and their staff provided us with a good value, relaxing stay on this lovely island.

Room Tip: Our room, facing the gardens at the back, was nice and quiet during our stay.

Just returned from a fantastic week in these apartments. Had a really friendly welcome from the family and when we got to the room I was really impressed with how spacious it was. The kitchen/living room comprised of a sofabed, dining table, a plug in hob, kettle and fridge. We only really made use of the self catering facilities for lunches then went out to eat in the evenings. The bathroom was spacious and clean as was the bedroom and there was a patio area with a table&chairs. Recommend the a/c as its so hot! Cost for this was €35 for the week but was worth it! Pool area is lovely and clean and has a jacuzzi too which was great. Apartments are close to a shop and a taverna which was nice, its about 10-15mins walk to kos town which has plenty of nice bars, we drank in the global cafe which is just off the main square which was lovely. Recommend fanos restaurant in kos town which does traditional greek food, olympia in zia which was amazing and the food in platani was great too. Visits to pyli and askeplion were fantastic and we also took a trip over to bodrum which was ok but kos is definitely alot nicer! We rented a car from autoway which is in kos town and got a great deal and the owner spent 30mins telling us all these fantastic places to see and eat, was very pleasant and i think his recommendations made the holiday for us! Overall great holiday, great location and would love to go again.

I travelled to these apartments with my girlfriend in July 2011 for 10 nights. It was our first time in kos but I've stayed in a few Greek apartments in other Islands and these were a little nicer than where I'd stayed previously, albeit just as basic, no toaster or microwave but I've never had one in a greek apartment.
The family running the show were very nice, we were invited to the weekly barbeque and given recommendations about what there was to do on the Island. I enjoyed the odd free shot of their home made raki at the bar on several occasions, can't speak highly enough of how welcome they made us feel.
The pool area was of a good standard, I saw it cleaned every night and on one evening it was emptied and refilled again. There were always just about enough sunbeds despite not getting to the pool until 11am on some days.
There is a bar with drinks and snacks which was reasonably priced but there was also a shop a few hundred yards up the road. One thing I would say though is that this accommodation is located 1.2km from kos town so this is one thing to bear in mind if you want to head out for dinner in the evening, its a good 15-20 minute walk to Kos Town. We hired a car so avoided this trek on some evenings but we were never in any hurry to get there so the walk didn't bother us.
Its a great place to base yourself for a family or couples holiday, I would stay here again if I was to go back to Kos.

we visited Ampavris Last year july 2011, and had a lovely time, brilliant family run apartments with the nicest family that will make sure you enjoy your stay! ... it has beautiful gardens and is a very relaxing stay perfect if you want to get away and chill out, the apartments are basic but clean perfect for what we needed... we were a young couple staying for the week but were never bored and always found somthing to do. they have a bbq on some nights which is fun... or the town is just a short 15-20 min walk... were theres plenty of bars and night clubs which we loved! ... the beach is also a 15-20 min walk but to be honest isnt the nicest and is gritty, but theres taxis that can take you to lovely sandy beaches which are not far at all.
would defiantly love to go back and visit george and his family x

Room Tip: if possible try get a upstairs room there slightly larger and also have a bath

From the moment we arrived we were greeted by a warm welcome. The rooms were basic but bigger than expected. We had a bedroom and kitchen with table and chairs, fridge with small freezer compartment with came in hand when we wanted ice cubes and basic cooker if you really wanted to cook. We found there was no need to cook as there were plenty of restaurants to choose from in Kos Town. We hired bikes for a couple of days which meant we could explore more of the island like the thermal spa and Tingaki under our own power. This is the best self catering hotel we have stayed at both for the size of the room and for the warm welcome from George and son and all the staff involved in the running of the hotel. Would come back here again and would recommend to others.

Just returned from 10 relaxing days spent at the Ampavris. We found everyone very welcoming and friendly from the moment we arrived, and all the staff made us feel very much at home. Our apartment was basic, but clean and well maintained.
The pool and bar areas were clean and the drinks and meals from the bar were reasonably priced.
The apartments are set in a quiet area just outside of town, but the delights of Kos Town are within easy reach,as is the bus station if you want to explore further afield. We enjoyed the walk into town, and found it was nice to stroll back up to the apartments at night to walk off some of the delicious food we had eaten.
One testamant to how good the apartments are is the numbers of people we met who had been there numerous times before. We were so taken with the Ampavris and the friendliness of the family and staff that we are thinking of going back next year.
