“Chilled Out & Relaxed”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

Just returned yesterday from Ampavris yesterday my family had a lovely relaxing stay and we feel totally refreshed. Only 10 minute walk from Kos Town and 3-4 minutes from Ampavris Taverna. Pool and bar area clean and quiet. Family run apartments and all family members were very friendly, my children Maxx and Ebony loved the interaction from Steve in the pool and whilst playing pool. We stayed in room 9 and balcony was lovely and sunny in the evening whilst kids recharged before an evening walk into town, we were able to pick up the wifi from the bar area whilst in room. We ate at the hotel a few times during the day and prices are reasonable with beer and wine €3 and soft drinks €2. Thanks for the Ice Bucket challenge!

just returned from the ampavris is set in a lovely location only approx. 15 minutes from kos town, beautiful pool area rooms basic but fine the only problem was even though tis is a family run apartments it is taken over by extended family and friends every day and also evenings where the whole of the family friends turn up not leaving any time for guests as they are very very family orientated, a lot of updating is needed here as about 4 sunbeds around the pool wasn't broke!

Room Tip: don't stay near the bar area if you don't want loud music until early hours and don't ex...

The Ampavris is a family run business where all the staff were very friendly. The rooms are very basic, the water pressure wasn't great and the sun bed's could do with replacing near the pool as there were a few that were broken.

Despite the negatives the rooms were pretty much cleaned daily, the bar did nice snacks with a decent breakfast and the bar was open to the early hours but at the same time wasn't too noisy. It's in a good location around a 10 minute walk into Kos Town and only a 2 minute walk from the local supermarket.

If you're looking for a no thrills hotel but in a decent location then look no further!

Me and my partner stayed here recently for 2 weeks in July. It is a lovely family run place and all of the staff who work here are very helpful and also speak good English. It has a lovely bar area which includes a pool table, darts board, 2 different bars and wifi available. The pool area is right next to the bars as well which are open at 7:30am. There are different types of meals you can choose from at the bar such as;- omelettes, pizzas, burgers, salads and sandwiches which are all lovely and cooked pretty quickly. The apartment we stayed in was the furthest set away from the bar etc but that's only literally 1 minute away. The apartments are pretty basic in terms of what's included. We had a kettle, fridge and an electrical stove in our kitchen which only had 2 hobs so it was difficult to cook meals at times. The bathroom was quite small with a bath, shower, sink and toilet inside and the bedroom was spacious with 2 single beds pushed together, bedside tables, a wardrobe with plenty of hangers inside which is always a bonus!! And a dressing table. We had a decent sized balcony with a table and chairs on and also a hanger so that you could hang wet clothes on it. The only disappointing thing was our balcony door didn't lock securely as with a slight push from the outside it would swing open, this was mentioned to the staff but they didn't seem too concerned about it. We didn't have anything to wash plates and cutlery with so we had to buy that when we got there but as there is a mini market called "mini market blue" just literally a 2 minute walk away that wasn't too bad. The maid who came to clean our room never seemed to do a complete job, she would make the bed and that would be it unless we was around she would them clean the floor etc. In terms of Kos town which isn't a very long walk away at all (approx 10/15 min) it is very nice with many shops, restaurants and cafés. I would highly recommend doing the trip to bodrum - turkey for the day via boat, if you go to the town and book it through a travel shop down there it is only 10 euros each plus 5 euros before you get on the boat. All in all it was a lovely holiday full of lovely people and the island is lovely.

Room Tip: Personally I would want a room as close to the bar as possible, otherwise the wifi doesn't reach...

Recently stayed here with my girlfriend for 2 weeks. It is a nice quiet family run hotel full of nice staff, good facilities and a cheap bar. The only down side was our room was really far away from the bar and pool but wasn't too bad as we just a 30 second walk through a shortcut to the local mini market. Our room was very basic, no tv or cooker, just a small stove to cook on, our balcony door wasn't secure and could be pulled open, the water pressure was really bad and sometimes the shower wouldn't work at all and the maid hardly ever cleaned the room properly and some times didn't leave us any clean towels after taking our used ones, you have 2 singles beds that are pushed together and are really uncomfy. The pool is open from 8 until 8 so you have more than enough time to chill in the pool, the bar shuts at around 2-3am so you have all night to have a drink, and the kitchen is open late for you to order food. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk to the town centre and the shops, restaurants, bakeries and ice cream shops. I would recommend going there but just think are ro could of been a lot better as people we made friends with had rooms that were a lot more modern and better.

First time in Kos with my partner and son for a week, a much enjoyable experience family run establishment and friendly with a very warm welcome true saying on the bar "arrive as strangers leave as friends".
A nice little walk to the the main harbour area with lots off restaurants offering many delights and great shopping for all the wee presents you want to bring back.
Kos has so much to offer in sightseeing tours a definitley must on our next trip.

A group of 6 of us stayed at Ampavris in June. We're all 19 and we wanted to stay somewhere that we'd be able to do activities, be close to the night life, but not staying somewhere right in the thick of it. Being a family run place, it was so lovely staying somewhere where you get to know the bar staff and the people working there, they were all so friendly and helpful, and we had a couple of nights where we were happy to just stay around the bar rather than go out- and actually had a really nice time. I'd seriously recommend signing up for the Greek night! 'Uncle George' will give you a tequila shot on arrival (or two if your name is George, as my friend found out), the food was insaneeee and then there's Greek dancing and drinks and music to follow!
The rooms were really nice too. We had two people in one room, and four in the other. Unfortunately, this meant the fourth person in our room was on a sofa bed which wasn't very comfortable, so that's just something to bare in mind if you're booking 4 of you into one of their '3 to 4 person' apartments. Both rooms had good cooking facilities which we didn't actually end up using, and a fridge which you definitely need in Greece for the bottles of water! We didn't pay for air-con but that was an option too. The only thing I really didn't like was the fact our shower cord didn't actually reach the hook, so we had to hold it up to take a shower, but we were lucky we had 2 rooms between us, so I usually used the other bathroom for showers.

I'm a really keen swimmer, so I like a decent sized pool. When we first saw it it looked very shallow from the outside, but it went up to just under 2 meters in the deep end, and was a great size for swimming, lilo- bathing or just messing around in the pool. There's a little section you can turn a bubble-Jacuzzi- style thing on as well which was cool.

When we booked, we were told that the bar by the pool served snacks you can buy in the day time, so didn't expect to be staying in for food much. But there's cooked breakfasts, omelettes, burgers, spaghetti, pizza all available as well as general crisps, icecreams and snacks. So if you arrive late in the evening like we did, you don't need to worry about going out for food because you can easily have a nice meal there. There's a 'supermarket' just a 2 minute walk away as well. It's actually just a very small shop with one person working in it at a time, but it really does have everything you'll need!

In terms of being close to the town, it is a good 10/15 minute walk down a long road to get there. It's in no way an unpleasant walk though, and we did it every day, sometimes a few times a day, with no problems. But there is loads of bike hire places around if you're interested in cycling, and Kos Town is honestly more cycle-paths than normal paths! Once you're in the town its another 10 minute walk to the harbor and the beach, so we only made it to the actual beach a couple of times unfortunately, but had a few lovely meals out by the harbour. (meals out are very cheap, we'd usually do 2 shared starters, a main each, 2 big bottles of water and individual drinks for about 12euros).
So yeah, I'd definitely recommend Kos as a place, and Ampavris as a place to stay. We got it for a good price and our only real regret is that we only stayed for a week! It didn't seem long enough.
Oh and wifi! There's wifi by the bar and the pool, which usually works fine but gets a bit slow when lots of people are on it at the same time.
