What a great holiday, wished we'd been there for 2wks. Don't really know where to start. Weather was fantastic. Everything about our stay at the Alice Springs was superb from the time we arrived to the time we left, with George waving us away. Without doubt George and Barbara are the best hosts everrrrrrr! The location was perfect with the beach virtually on the doorstep & Kos Town a short walk away with plenty of bars/restaurants along the way. The Lamb night at the Alice Springs is a must., huge lamb shanks cooked to perfection. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, all in all a top holiday where we met some great people. Enjoyed it that much we have just booked to go back for 2wks next June with family. Would recommend this hotel to anyone (but we'd rather keep it a secret). George also does a mean Pimms & lemonade but Barbara's is better ha ha!
Loads of choice restaurant wise, cannot recommend one in particular as they all seemed good, we didn't have a bad meal and there are some lovely bars to sit and relax in on an evening and lively bars if you want more nightlife. Roll on June 2011!

we came back to this hotel again as they are the most warm, kindest people we have met when staying at a hotel, you feel part of their home enviroment.
where the hotel is situated is perfect for us away from the town but near enought to walk to for the evening if you wish to do so. They are very helpful and are happy to recommend other restaurants and bars on the island.
We as a family had such great fun over the two weeks, my two sons aged 14 & 17 said they had the best holiday ever, so much so that we have booked to go back August 2010, this time we are going with our relatives and their teenage children, and my older son, we met other families which we are all going back again. just to say thank you for a great holiday.

I read all the glowing reviews and I thought this place is just be too good to be true. I really do have to report a slightly different experience to most. It is certainly true that George and Barbara are totally unique and unforgettable hosts and they are indeed very well intentioned.
We arrived and were allocated our room. I asked if there was a lift ... yes there is, but it's broken ha ha ha. It was only up a couple of flights of stairs and some other guests helped us but we did think hmmm oh dear. The room was small but adequate but the toilet was a disgrace. Toilet filthy, shower filthy, sink pedestal loose and had a gap and the taps rotated in their sockets. The next morning we complained to George, who blamed the cleaning staff for not telling him. Like yeah ... this stuff must have been this way for years.
They transferred us to another room. This was marginally better so we felt let's just get on with it and try to relax.
The hotel is situated in what i would call the seedier end of town ... quite a long deserted walk from the restaurant area, past 2 deserted clubs (how do they survive), next to the deserted tomato cannery, where some sort of illegal immigrant/gypsy/scrap metal dealer family lived and opposite the lap dancing club. It really is a bit of a tip as you cut in from the promenade to the road where the Alice Springs stands.
Because you have to pass through the bar area to get to the rooms, we always felt we were being watched like hawks by George and/or Barbara every bag of shopping being scrutinised!
We also had issues with George and Barbara in that we didn't really participate in the *fun* events they organised and I do have to say we felt the colder edge of their personalities, culminating in a rather nasty practical joke played on us by George ha ha ha. Once again we were helped out by other sympathetic guests who recognised our plight.
So, the hotel itself is quite adequate ... George and Barbara really do try ... the island is great ... So if you want a holiday with a flat screen television showing football every night, fund raising bingo nights, constant ribbing and jokes by George ha ha ha, and the general feel of a working man's club, then this is the place for you.
We booked it because it was cheap, but I really do wish we'd spent another £100 and got somewhere just that little bit nicer. We've learnt our lesson now and don't always go for the cheapest.

After reading some advice on this place before we booked we were so pleased when we arrived, we obviously had the best hotel on the island and the best location too.
George and Barbara we like Ma and Pa from the Walton’s, grounded and good spirited.

Being a lesbian couple we often wonder about how we will be received when on holiday. This was not even a factor. We were treated with respect and kindness at all times, in fact George and his wife Barbara couldn’t have done more for us during our two week stay. They even went so far to move our rooms when my partner was sick so that she could get a good night’s rest from being by the pool to moving to a quieter location.

They advised on where to go to get the best deals on renting a scooter and they always looked out for us of an evening making sure they saw we were well and enjoying the holiday without being intrusive. Always trying to make us laugh and greeting us with a smile. We felt very comfortable here and wont hesitate to bring our family here in years to come.

Thank you George and Barbara and the staff at Alice Springs Hotel
Lots of Love Sabrina and Kirsty xx

We stayed at Alice Springs in July last year and have already booked for this year. Had an excellent, relaxed holiday. George, Barbara and Elias could not do enough, very friendly and accommodating, The kids had a brilliant time in the pool and there was a good group to play with. Rooms are basic but still excellent, this is a small family run complex as advertised. Very near the beach and clean towels every day which wasn't expected! Food was lovely especially the Alice Springs breakfast!
Can't wait to be back again relaxing in the sun and eating the fresh figs from their own garden.

If you are thinking of staying at Alice Springs Hotel think no more... just book it! You won't be disappointed.

Everyone at Alice Springs Hotel extend a great, warm, welcome to their guests. No one is pressured into joining in, people do because they want to, and are happy to do so! That's why so many guests come back year after year.

The first year I went to Alice Springs Hotel was 2002 with my then 13 year old son. I found the hotel when I was on the island for a previous holiday. I had walked into a lot of hotels looking for somewhere small and friendly where I wouldn't feel alone being a single mum.

At Alice Springs Hotel I asked people at the pool what they thought of the hotel. The people I asked told me they had been going to Alice Springs every year for 20+ years! That spoke volumes to me. I booked my room there and then... and haven't looked back since. 9 holidays in 8 years!

After many great relaxing holidays at Alice Springs Hotel I can hand on heart recommend it to all travellors. Whether young, or old, single, families or whatever you are all welcomed and made to feel part of the family.

My family have grown up with Alice Springs Hotel and George, Barbara, Elias, Maria and the children. It wouldn't be Summer without a trip to Kos to see our friends.
