“Great place to stay good fishing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2013

Just got back from a great long weekend The camp was clean staff friendly. We went for the fishing And on the first evening I had a 18lb common carp so how people can say no fish I don't know They need to learn how to fish lakes like these are fished a lot so you have to put the effort in fish don't just jump into the net so stop complaining and learn how to fish All in all my family including my two year old grandson had a good time and I will be going back
Again .

Turned up at the site and must admit driving through a little housing estate on the approach to the site wasnt what I expected.....that said, once your on the site it a great little site. Walking distance to the town and beach if you liked, but a really easy 2 minute drive otherwise. Obviously lots of other great places to visit within short drive also (Cheddar Gorge, Weston etc....). The site is fairly small, but have to say having done a few Sun holidays, this was one of our favourites. No late night parties, rowdy teens, Chav families, just a nice quiet site with a cracking little bar/lounge with decent bar meals and good early evening entertainment for the little ones.
The lake was a nice touch too, lots of ducks, geese, swans (my children were fascinated by the swans nest) and fishing.
As for the caravan, we took the risk of not upgrading and kept our fingers crossed. The gamble paid off. The caravan was completely spotless, modern and had everything we needed (great shower too). The added bonus was the built in heating in the bedrooms....unexpected but very welcomed (we had taken a heater fan but didnt need it). No doubt this was a stroke of luck.
I genuinely couldnt recommend this site enough. Certainly if we plan to visit the area in the future we will definitely have this site on our list!

This was my first visit to Burnham & obviously first stay at Lakeside, I won’t whittle on so here is what I thought:

Upgrading is easy & reasonable, ring a few weeks before you arrive & pay over the phone. Paying the balance of a sun holiday is also easy, just pay upon arrival.

The Park is a nightmare to find if you use their postcode, you’ll end up like me getting annoyed having to turn around at another dead end, you want TA8 2AW, road signs are of no help, as there is just one at the end of the correct road.

Every thing (entertainment & reception etc), is all in one small complex, the reception also doubles as the site shop, it doesn’t have much stock but is ok in an emergency, however Tesco, Morrisons & Lidl are within 5 minutes drive.

Booking in was fast, professional and friendly.

Our upgraded caravan, a 2012 model, was indeed very nice, however it’s heating system is imho poor compared to most other caravan’s I’ve stayed in over the years, usually an upgrade means central heating, instead I got a boost button which turned on 2 weak devices (spare bedroom & bathroom towel rail) and an efficient but very noisy main bedroom fan heater, and even though the living room gas fire worked it never got the room to a comfortably warm temperature.

Heating aside the van was indeed very nice, the hardwearing and hygienic double mattress makes sense and was indeed comfortable, I wish other parks would adopt the same attitude towards the double mattress as Lakeside.

The holiday park is the smallest I’ve stayed at and is ideal for a refreshing break, the big pond is picturesque and wildlife (mainly birds) plentiful in supply, it’s about a 10 minute level walk to the long sand beach.

The club house and entertainments staff are on a par with other club houses, however this one doesn’t charge, making a mockery of those parks that rip people off by charging a tenner or more, it’s a small club house but a perfect size for the park, I ordered 2 meals one came out wrong but this was very quickly resolved and with no fuss, the food was reasonably priced and of good quality.

Overall I really liked the park and will definitely re-visit again within the next couple of years, the staff were all friendly & polite the accommodation very nice and to top it all it’s in a great location for touring a lot of interesting places in the area, which is great because, Burnham isn’t exactly the hive of activity and high on my list of seaside towns; Clarks, Cheddar, Weston, Bristol &, Bath etc are all within an hour’s drive.

Gripes ?, apart from heating which the park has no real control over, the park has a phobia about overloading the power supply (i.e. you’re not permitted to use a portable heating device), the tele although being a modern lcd is tiny, my biggest moan (minor in the grand scheme of things), is that due to the wild life and severe lack of pavements carrying mud and bird poo etc into the caravan’s is an all too regular occurrence, especially at night, where the sparse lighting doesn’t illuminate your movement, gravel pavements would help no end, not only holiday makers but the cleaning staff as well.

Be ware that the local police love to use their fund-raising van and several roads have no visible speed limit signs, speed camera vans are an unusual sign not seen in Wiltshire, wonder who has the safest roads ?. And while on the park watch out for an inconsiderate Blue Renualt Mpv driver, who does'nt understand rights of way.

Lakeside is a very small family caravan park .Caravans are very close to each other but are nice inside.Prices are reasonable as well .We mainly came for the fishing although there's no fish!! Many of the men finishing soon with my son resorted to another lake 6 miles away.Definatly no fish and if they are there very small,so nothing to exciting. So the fishing lake is 0/10!!
Club house food is nice basic but nice.Childrens entertainment was they ,they try their best!!
Games room needs upgrading ,to old etc some things not working properly etc
Would return if things were improved

We had a great time at Lakeside. We spent a long weekend with friends and it was our first visit to Burnham on Sea. The kids loved the disco and the arcade not to mention the ice creams! and we could relax and enjoy the fab entertainment. Our van was top spec and brand new with radiators throughout so we were never cold. The staff were friendly and helpful and the site is ideally situated for Brean and Weston. We liked the nearby Adenture Farm. You are also only minutes walk from the town and sea front. We can't wait to come back next year!

me and my husband stayed here in september for a week. we had a lovely time. we stayed in a gold caravan and it was lush. the only down side was that it needed better heating in the bathrooms, and bedrooms. we would defo stay here again. it was very relaxing and a great base to visit other place, cheddar is a must it was lush there. the staff are very helpful and you got a good meal in the bar if you didnt want to go out. there,s plenty of places to eat in burnham itself and its only about a 10min walk. im very fussy on things, but i will defo defo go back even thinking off going back next year, i would like to say it was more catered for adults then children which was good for us not a lot off kids around at all

Hi Jackie
Thanks very much for your review. We are really glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Lakeside and exploring Somerset. We love to hear that our customers have had a good holiday, and we much appreciate you taking the time to write about us. Thanks for your feedback on the heating, we will certainly look into this in the closed season and ensure that we feel the caravans are warm enough for 2013. We hope to see you again at Lakeside in the future. Best wishes from us all here.

This isn't a review, more of a rant. Since when has October been national 'Pick on Lakeside' month? Of course the outside pool is shut-it is October, NOT July! It says on the booking form that you book in at 4pm. The staff in the bar weren't rude to us last month when they shut early in the afternoon. I can't speak for the caravans being too close, as where we are they are far apart, as for privacy, the new Premium caravans have net curtains in. It's not the end of the world if no one catches any fish. I agree with the no ball game signs as I certainly WOULDN'T want kids playing football near my caravan.Lakeside doesn't provide toilet paper, nor irons in the caravans, or The Boathouse isn't providing a childminding service. It is obvious Lakeside isn't for those who complain, and you would be better off at Pontins, where the kids can run amock and play football all the time.
